Except for the bed problem, ideal budget accomodation. (107217669)
Value for money, good
location with food and bars close by, very close to port and
easy to get to with plenty of
parking
Room is
small, but the
price reflects that, the third bed is a bunk, as shown in the picture, however in our room the securing bolts to the wall had come loose! We put the mattress on the floor, the bed seemed to settle more than we would have liked.
Alex from Glasgow, GB (Young couple) 29 September 2008
I will not be staying again and I am looking in to make a proper formal complaint to recieve some of my money back especially for the internet usage, as I needed access to check my Eurotunnel booking. The room was so bad that my girlfriend actually started crying at how horrible and disgusting the room was. (107227739)

The Internet Booking was
nice and simple and confirmation was clear. Check in was
easy...

The room was disgusting and there was mould on the sealing. The mattress was practically distorted in shape and I slept on an uphill angle all night. I could smell the
people next
door smoking. The website and email confirmation also told me there was free wireless internet, but I was charged 5Euro for this, which is very unfair.

Great value! 40 Euros for the night. The hotel is very
basic but was
clean. The staff were efficient. It was
ideal for us as an
overnight stay after arriving on the
ferry and then travelling down to the Dordogne.

Ok for a short stopover not for a prolonged stay. (97720100)
Clean Sheets, TV picked up
English Channels,
Breakfast was good,
friendly staff

The Hotel was tired and looked as if it could do with a face lift, poor carpets, you had to be thin to access the
shower, cracks in the basin, garish paint on doorframes, no drawers or anywhere for clothes only 5 coathangers for the three of us.
Anonymous (Group of work colleagues) 20 May 2008
We didn't expect the hotel to be particularly glamourous, and it's hard to describe it as such, but for the price we were very happy, and for an overnight stop it was very much ideal. Just a shame about the confusion over the payment at the start, which made us fairly suspicious initially. (97128504)

The hotel was good
value for money and was generally better than I expected in terms of room
facilities. I was also pleased to have access to some
English TV channels, though I expect this will soon come to an end due to the UK's decision to start making all of our channels digital-only! We liked the sense of local pride in the
bar, which was dedicated to the local football team (we came to watch the team play as the main reason for our visit, so this added to the overall impact of our enjoyment). The barman was
friendly and spoke good
English, which was useful given our limited grasp of French. The
location of the hotel was superb - much nearer to the
station than we expected.

The receptionist made life quite confusing for us, given that we spoke only limited French. She took more money from us than was stipulated on our receipt, and returned it to us when we queried the bill, which made the start of our visit fairly unsettling. The
bar prices were quite high, but when compared to other local bars, the mark-up wasn't perhaps as unreasonable as you might expect, and I liked the Wilfort beer which I didn't see anywhere else on our trip. However, I could only really afford to drink one glass-full at those prices.
Anonymous (Family with young children) 26 March 2008
Hotel is fine for an overnight stay - I wouldn't stay here longer than one night since the rooms are very basic and the bathroom is small. It's just like a Formula 1 or Etap hotel so it's ok. (97902979)

The accommodation was extremely basic and i would rather pay sightly more for a little more comfort. It was very small and not entirely clean there was certainly room for improvement.
Smoking should definatley NOT be aloud inside especially so close to the breakfast facility. Becuase of the smoking inside i will not book again. (97770370)

Shower door jammed against

Mark from Bristol, GB (Group of adult friends) 17 October 2007
Budget accommodation at its most basic, but at 40EUR for each 3 bed room you shouldn't be expecting anything else. Had the room been aired before we got there I probably wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for stopovers or a flying visit to Calais en route to other places. (97063765)

Very
cheap, staff were very
helpful and courteous, plentiful free on-site
parking, pairs of adjacent rooms share a lockable entrance hall so can be used as a 6 bed suite instead of separate rooms.

Both rooms smelt strongly of damp when we arrived
REINE from Englefield |Green, GB (Mature couple) 04 October 2007
Adequate, relatively inexpensive facility for short 1-2 day stay if traveling with little luggage; rather spartan accommodations. Fine for the budget-minded. (97006044)
location and
price--located near railway

town; cost of room lower than other hotels

rugs stained and worn; paint needs refreshing; very
small size of room;no drawer storage space;
shower stall very
small (
door barely opens because it hits the
toilet seat); no phone in room, so no way to reach reception desk.

We had no problems checking in.
The rooms were ready for us upon arrival, but one did have a smell.
The staff kindly changed that smelly room for us.
The staff also allowed us an extra key as we locked ourselves out.
All the facilities worked adequately.
Thank you. (97609329)

Paul from South Woodham Ferrers, GB (Family with older children) 02 October 2007
I got exactly what I expected (after reading reviews) even down to the slighty too smokey bar....well we were in France! It was a good choice for what we needed, an overnight stop with bar. Everything was clean, service was good, location great. Would recommend it for an overnight stop and will stay there again. We paid extra for breakfast and that too was fine, simple but just what we needed after a late night. (97730459)

It was very reasonably priced and
clean. The bed was
comfortable and the
breakfast at 5 Euros was good

Being of a larger build, I could not fit into the

open fully, thus making it impossible for me and my fuller figure to get into the

Anonymous (Mature couple) 25 May 2007
I've stayed in Bonsai Hotels before and this one is not typical of the standard I had come to expect. I accept it is a budget hotel but I have had far better experiences in similar establishments elsewhere. The absence of carpet in the room was an experience I had not had before, the shower room light didn't work, this turned out to be because it didn't have a tube in it and after two attempts they finally found a tube that worked. The wash hand basin was cracked, the door of the shower struck the toilet and made it very difficult to get into and out of the shower, the shower mixer didn't have a thermostat and the temperature of the water varied widely, almost to scalding hot on some occassions. The stairs were very narrow and, in the absence of a lift made it an unpleasent experience to use, especially when you met someone coming the other way and finally the television didn't have a remote control. I wasn't aware that it was possible to get a television set without a remote control these days! (99837682)

It was conveniently situated close to the
town centre.

Poor standard of accommodation.
