Guest reviews of the Smallwood House

Excellent
Peter from Brisbane, AU (Group of adult friends) 12 July 2008

We couldn't have been more pleased. A wonderful four days in the Lake District. Never to be forgotten. (97531268)

positive comments We were delighted with the hospitality and friendliness of the host
negative comments I suggested that the directions to the guests on the website for arrival by bus were a little vague leading to a longer than necessary walk and confusion. I offer this not as a criticism but as a help.
Excellent

We had a really pleasant stay, although the Lake District does get very busy of course. (97168137)

positive comments Everything was fine. The staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

The Smallwood House Hotel was very close to the centre of Ambleside. We found the hotel very clean and comfortable, the owner and staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. We would definately stay here again. (97349783)

The hotel was positioned well, it was in the centre of town but not noisy. The hotel was generally nice and clean and friendly. (97548086)

positive comments It was a very friendly atmosphere, helpful staff, clean rooms and toiletries and fluffy towels were provided. Breakfast was nice.
negative comments Our room had a sloping ceiling over the bed which made it a bit tricky getting in and out of bed and the ceiling in the bathroom sloped over the bath so you could only have a shower sitting in the bath.

Centrally positioned in Ambleside so easy access to cafes, shops, pubs and the excellent local picture house was ideal for our weekend break! Good starting point for varied walks in breathtaking scenery.(We bought a pack of local walks from the tourist information centre for £1.85 and certainly got our money's worth!)Enjoyed some good pub food and beer in the evenings and took full advantage of the films on offer. Hotel was well run with friendly staff. (97399895)

positive comments The location of the hotel was just right for us.Staff were friendly and polite and cheerfully accommodating over breakfast options. Our room was comfortable and checked daily.
negative comments The only problems we encountered were trouble locking our room door and a rowdy disturbance ihe early hours of the morning just beneath our window.

Kenneth from Chepstow, GB (Mature couple) 15 February 2008

On arrival we were greeted by the hotel staff and shown to our room.Perhaps we should have asked which side of the hotel our room was situated as the front of the hotel can be a little noisy at nights,we were okay because we were at the back. We actually arrived early but that was no problem.Shops,Cinema and most of all the walks were all very close.Maps were available if required. Checkout was fast and efficient and we were very satisfied at the cost. (97568240)

positive comments The Hotel is very well situated in Ambleside, parking is adequate. The hotel is clean, staff very friendly and the food excellent.
