Excellent
Patricia from London, GB (Young couple) 04 November 2008

Tariff very good value based on a late deal. Ticked all the boxes on customer service and surroundings. Although we won't be booking for Christmas, the Black Lion looks like it would provide a real treat. (107621602)

positive comments Charming, efficient and genuine welcome. All manner of information provided up front. Room spacious and warm. Lounge, a joy to sit in on in a cold wet Saturday afternoon. Slight problem with location of table for evening meal resolved without any fuss.
negative comments Whilst a lovely room, insulation from the noise of the bar/dining room below is poor. The eve meal was nice but the fish dish (accompanied by root veg!) was a bit mean for the price. Starter and cheese great.

Jayne from Newport, GB (Mature couple) 11 June 2008

A brief but enjoyable stay and we would definately consider staying again if we are in the area. (97245759)

positive comments Nice location, easy parking, friendly welcome, good lunch: quickly served, spacious room, relaxed atmoshere.
negative comments Shabby decor in places, e.g chipped sink in bathroom, chipped paintwork on skirting boards, however this did add to the 'old but charming' nature of the inn.
Excellent
Geoff from Stamford, GB (Mature couple) 14 May 2008

The Black Lion Hotel was chosen as being convenient to our final destination(Lavenham) and the quoted price was within our budget. The internet booking gave relatively little information about either the cuisine or the hotel's very attractive location. In the event we were pleasantly surprised on both counts, and you might consider publicising these aspects on the booking website. (97413695)

positive comments The restaurant was excellent, the breakfast menu in particular was impressive(and lived up to its promise). Our room was interestingly quirky with a pleasant view.
negative comments The hotel car parking area is limited, but on-road parking is readily available.

The hotel was a very pleasant surprise especially the high stamdard of interior design, we liked the traditional(Four poster bed) mixed with the latest designs and technology. The relaxed atmosphere and lovely food at the hotel in a beautiful setting made for a realy lovely weekend. We would definately recommend it! (97095169)

positive comments The high standard of decoration of our suite.
negative comments If I was really being fussy the door handles could do with being replaced.

positive comments All the staff were lovely, very friendly, even the house keeper. The food was excellent and the room very individual and luxurious.
negative comments Our stay was too short. More information about the village and the surounding area would be good and less about the owner.

Janet from Weybridge, GB (Mature couple) 04 December 2007

We had a relaxed evening with excellent food and wine. Perfect for a wedding anniversary treat.Time from the M25 and most direct route would be helpful. The instructions in the hotel room were most informative about the histroy of the hotel , town and environs. (97455424)

positive comments we stayed in the suite superior deluxe room. The features were in keeping with modernisation of the hotel but in a historic setting. The aspect was lovely and the 4 poster bed really comfortable. Restaurant was excellent. discreet subtle service and the concierge was VERY welcoming meeting all our needs very graciously.
negative comments unfortunately the hair dryer however overheated and smelt

We are frequent visiters to Suffolk, and this Hotel was by far the best we have stayed in.We have previously stayed in all the so called finest hotels. None one of them have treated us as well as they have done in this Hotel. There is no doubt that we will book this Hotel again, and recommend it to our relatives and friends. (97976091)

positive comments All the staff were very polite and respectful, and the room was large and very comfortable. And the food was wonderful.

Steven from Southend on Sea, GB (Young couple) 04 November 2007

very disappointed that we could not get any bar food or snacks, only food available was in the restaurant during its opening hours. This establishmenmt appears to be a restaurant with good accomodation rather than a good hotel with a restaurant.Probably would not stay again unfortunately. (97310440)

positive comments Location
negative comments unable to get any food apart fom when the restaurant was open and then no bar meals.

Excellent hotel, well situated for Long Melford, with attractive individually designed rooms and wonderful food in a choice of restaurant settings. We arrived by bike having taken advantage of a special offer, didn't have any problems at all, but probably would not have booked at full-price rates. (97161921)

positive comments Both room and food were excellent and the fact everything ran smoothly
negative comments Very little, Room a bit hot, larger bath sheets a bit nylony

ian from sheffield, GB (Mature couple) 24 October 2007

We were down in Suffolk for a wedding. We did not know the area that well, so when booking on line we were taking a chance with the facilities. We were in a hurry when we arrived to change for the wedding we were going to, we were allowed to use our room, even though it was not ready, which was really handy. The staff were very friendly all the way through our stay, and the breakfast was excellent. (97796220)

positive comments Very clean and modern, all facilities needed were there.

The hotel was well positioned in a small village setting overlooking the green. food was good allthough we prefer home style cooking to al'acat. Overall though the hotel was most accomadating and we would highly recomend it to our friends (99622408)

positive comments clean bright and great views
negative comments the food, wasn't enough home style meals, although the hotel did cater for our requirments when asked!

I would recomend this hotel to anyone. The food is of a very high standard and the rooms are all individual and charming. I believe there is a room suitable for taking children which is a great idea. (99037943)

positive comments The atmosphere, food and location. All very pleasant indeed.
negative comments The bathroom robe was too small. And that is the only issue we had.

Absolutely lovely decorated and furnished rooms, ideal for people looking for a romantic, yet still affordable, break away (whether weekend or weekdays). I feared it might be kind of 'dusty' old-fashioned and dark but the bright and very clean rooms, bar and restaurant were a pleasant surprise. Although we were guests from Mon to Wed it felt like a weekend or holiday. Just right if you look for something quiet but with a charming ambiente and very good food.Service was very friendly and warm. Would go again any time. (99099356)

positive comments The decoration/ furnishing of the rooms and the building throughout. The service and the food.
