The hotel was brilliant, it had a lovely environment and fantastic services all round. In a beautiful situation of harrogate with great views from our window of the decorative roundabout. I recommend to all.

Good location and hotel, let down by points above.
(97596569)

Good location and standard of rooms. A good standard of breakfast was included.

Some minor issues: Our bedroom was at the back of the hotel and the main issue was noise of people leaving from local nightclub until 2 a.m.; other problems included, main electrical plug socket not working and some dirty marks on toilet/bathroom wall.
Karen from Liverpool, GB (Mature couple) 27 March 2008
There was a minimal amount of parking - maybe a discount negotiated between hotel & local car parks would have helped. The dining area was very nice, however there was little menu choice for vegetarians & as such we did not eat in the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. The staff throughout were helpful & friendly.
(97151475)

The accommodation appeared classy from the outside and there had clearly been some large scale refurbishment in rooms and in public areas

The finishing of the refurbishment however was of poor quality for such a highly rated establishment. Paint left on the bathroom floor etc. Also the floors were extremely creaky and there was no shelving/drawer space of any note.

I would recommend the Crown to anyone wishing to stay in Harrogate or the surrounding area. The staff are friendly and efficient, the location is ideal. The refurbishment has been carried out to a good standard.

Breakfast was very extensive and my wife enjoyed hers from the buffet counter, but I was disappointed with my cooked breakfast on each occasion. I thought both the bacon and sausage were mediocre, which was a great shame because everything else we used at the hotel seemed to be the best quality. We were impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the overall feel of the hotel.
(97912734)

The hotel is very grand and stylish. We liked the historical element.

While the room was adequate in size and perfectly clean, we felt it lacked storage facilities, both in the bedroom and bathroom.

I think all the information we required was available to us. The Htel is just perfectly situated for thw town center and bus services to Leeds, Ripon if required.
Has Been Just perfect.
Please give our sincere thanks to all of the staff they were exceptional, polite, kind curtious. Just so nice to deal with.

We were at the front of the hotel which had spotlights on all night, which came into our room, giving us a very restless night, might be worth having blackout blinds at the front of the hotel. Will ask for a room at the back if we book again. Bathroom was very small, but the condition was excellent. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff.

Location was excellent. Nice room, although a little on the small side.
Cynthia from Torquay, GB (Mature couple) 03 January 2008
First night was quiet in the restaurant and the food and service was excellant. On the second night it was busy in the restaurant and my wife and I reversed our first night's choices of food. My starter was cold, my main course was not as ordered and my wife's main course was poor. We were not charged for the main courses so we were disappointed but satisfied with the action taken. Luckily breakfast made up for the previous night and we would try the hotel again especially as it had not been open long since its refurbishment and we accept it takes time staff and services to come together....
(97411549)

Location, food

Refurbishment could have done with more thought! Bathroom had no ventilation so mirror and walls were running with condensation when showering. Also there was no where to put anything while showering and the towel rail was not within reach of the bath (a health and safety issue). The bath surface was enamelled with no no slip surface (a health and safety issue!)

Good view from the window, great surroundings and central to every amenity. Breakfast tasted wonderful (heavy on the butter)The porter was helpful and friendly. The bathroom was good.beds comfy.

The lobby had an unusual smell(Not very nice). The only place to smoke seemed to be at the front door. The lack of an ashtray meant the place was covered in tabs. People are still going to smoke so why not provide a facillity for smoking and disposing of the ends. the parking was a bit hit and miss

The hotel lobby an communal areas on the ground floor were of a very high standard. The breakfast included with the room was also very good. The staff were very friendly and polite, and the standard of service was good.

The rooms we stayed in and the corridors on our floor (third) were in need of refubishment - in some parts of the hallway there were holes in the wall or missing wallpaper. However, the hotel is in the middle of a refurbishment at present, so I would imagine that this will all be corrected shortly.
Graham from Paris, France;FR (Solo leisure traveller) 23 August 2006
I suspect the much-needed renovation now under way will be in dubious taste, if one can judge by the unfortunate redecoration of the dining-room. A stunning piece of Victoriana has been massacred for the sake of so-called modernity. However, the quality of the service and the good value for money outweigh the disadvantages. It remains to be seen whether, once refurbished, prices will increase...
(3305146654)

charm of the building (under renovation), very good, friendly service, good value for money. Excellent breakfast. The Place bar/restaurant is a successful transformation to modern decor, with quite good food and good service. In general, if you like decaying grandeur as I do, this hotel provides it.

Badly needs renovation (under way), but the creaking boards, loose bathroom fittings, leaky shower... are a little annoying. The Victorian dining room, which could have been an amazing room, has been spoilt by ugly and inadequate lighting, very minimalist modern furniture and a cold atmosphere. A slightly pretentious menu (main restaurant), doubtless influenced by TV cookery programmes, is not backed up by consistent high-quality cuisine: excellent presentation but overcooked meat, undercooked vegetables. Wine list limited mostly to Chilean, Australian and other non-French wines.

Nice traditional very large hotel room. The breakfast was good. Very well located.

The hotel was being refurbished, so there was some noise and disruption, but it should be great when finished.
Anonymous (Group of work colleagues) 07 April 2006
only one drawback about the hotel was the squeeky floors. Next time i would request a room on the 3 floor to avoid hearing people walk around in the room for hours. As there was a lot of old people in the hotel who liked to wake up at 6 am and start pacing around in the room i was not happy with the fact that i was in the room underneath them. Very noisy in that regard. The rest of the experience was great and i like the hotel.

the shower in our room did not work and i reported it and was told it would be fixed but sadly this ws not the case, the annoying thing in the room was the creaky floorboards and there was not enough seating in the bar where you could smoke but overall it was a lovely hotel

food was good and the hotel was nice

Harrogate in gerneral needs to redress its Hotels in that they have become complacent and deliver poor service at high prices. We're in the 21st Centuary
(3304269544)

Central location and very helpful staff

A number of areas need to be redressed. The central heating control was broken so could not be turned off so the window had to be opened to keep the room cool although this was met with the kitchen extractor fan noise! The breakfast selecion was a little sparse although they did do me some nice kippers

I think I must have been upgraded for a late booking.Everything was amazingly wonderful & unbelievable value for money. The Hotel was in an ideal location for seeing the town & they had tried to think of everything.Lovely crisp white bed linen, lovely breakfast etc etc

The hotel was excellent value for money warm and comfortable although could'nt get hot water out of the shower. The staff were very efficient and friendly, I would certainly recommend it and hope to make another visit soon.

Look for old-world, a bit run-down charm but nice big rooms and great deep bathtub with views of the park--be sure to ask.

Great big bathtub and room with view, be sure to get a room facing the park.
