It satisied our requirements but the attitude of the Bar staff marred the overall stay - great shame as the reception staff were friendly, efficient and very welcoming. (107100468)
Friendly reception,
clean and neat rooms.
Bar &
restaurant staff very unimpressive. Was given wrong drink - when pointed out was replaced reluctantly! At 2130 went into
restaurant and asked for a table for 6 and was told that they did not have one. Even
thought there were several tables that could easily have been moved to accommodate us, no effort was made nor was any real interest shown. We would have settled for a short wait in the
bar but so such suggestion was made. We felt that there was on interest in us and that we were an inconvenience! Benefit was that we had an excellent meal in a local
friendly restaurant where the staff went out of their way to
make us welcome. As a result of that experience we also had
breakfast out so you lost quite a lot of revenue as a result!! Your loss (and our gain).

This is was a leisure stay as we attended a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The room was very comfortable and clean, the staff at the hotel were very polite and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again. (97249111)

I did not experience any bad points

free wi-fi,
quiet location
the lack of continental
breakfast option & very little advance notice that you would pay £12.50 for cereals, juice & coffee.
Stuart from Pontefract, GB (Solo business traveller) 13 May 2008
Very short visit. Hotel quality fair, but somewhat dated and in need of some TLC. Room very quiet, which helped to compensate for inadequate air conditioning, as I could leave the window open. Bar was closed at 11.00pm, which is unacceptable. (97691050)

Accessability to Imperial College

Very lengthy checkout

Checking in was very efficient, very pleasant staff that accommodated our request for a different room. Was lead to believe from previous reviews that the rooms were spacious when in fact they were very small, the bathroom was disappointing as having to climb into a bath to have a shower is no fun when you have arthritis. As stated previously, the room was unbearably hot so we had a very uncomfortable night. (97749822)

The proximity to The
Royal Albert Hall where we were going to an event. The cleaness of the hotel.

The rooms were very
small, our first room looked onto the side of the building and made us feel we were in a cellar, we were moved but had very little sleep because despite turning the heat off and opening the windows the room was un bearably
hot.

overall cleanliness/ hygiene/ presentation of all areas of hotel. excellent food:- quality and variety.

I stayed for 1 night. This hotel is very convenient to the Royal Albert Hall. When I tried to check in at noon, one of the receptionist was very abrupt in her manner, stating that check-in is 2pm. When I returned to check-in at 2pm, the room wasnt ready. I explained that this was not acceptable. She didnt apologise and was rude in her dealings with me. The other receptionists were more than helpful. The room itself was fine, although the decor is rather dated. The view from the window was dreadful- it looked into a wall. I wouldnt stay in this hotel again. (97123226)

We were upgraded to a Superior Twin room, so
appreciated the extra space. The
bathroom warmth was
appreciated on a very cold night.

The
stair carpet on one
stair near our room was loose and could be a hazard.

It was only a one night stay but we enjoyed it. We like walking so it was conveniently situated to most areas we are likely to want to visit. Unless I misread the website it was not clear how to get from Gloucester Road underground station to the hotel. The hotel was shown on our street plan but the station was off the map so we had to do a bit of guessing.
We would certainly consider this hotel again if we come for a theatre break. (99351473)
Clean,
comfortable ,
friendly staff

I would have preferred
stair acces to the diningroom without having to go outside but this is a minor niggle. There is a lift

Had researched beforehand where hotel was situated in relation to what we wanted to do when in London. Came up to our expectation. Only criticism we would have was that breakfast was not included in room charge and that at £12.50 - rather hefty change. Incidentally at this price, needless to say we didn't partake of this at hotel! (99260791)

Pleasantly surprised at
size of room, on
floor requested, very
clean and
comfortable. Excellent supply of toiletries and teamaking
facilities. Very
quiet room, no
road traffic noise.
Nick from Chineham, UNITED KINGDOM;GB (Group of work colleagues) 24 March 2007
The hotel was just what I was looking for: convenient for the Museums and restaurants/pubs, whilst being located in a quiet mostly residential area. A minor negative point is that it is at least 10 minutes wlk from a tube station. (99371038)

The accomodation was functional and
quiet. Being a
small hotel my room was very
convenient for
reception and checkin/checkout was fast

We had stayed at the John Howard before so we knew!! Apart from being a bit hot we had areally good w/e. Thankyou. (3305420512)

Everything as above. We also
appreciated having our room upgraded.

The hotel particularly the bedroom was very
hot, and although we turned the thermostat to 0 it didn't really seem to
make much difference. Windows were opened and that helped but it was too
noisy at night to
leave them
open. We foiund we could sleep with just a sheet to cover us. Apart from that we had an excellent w/e.

Good value for money, friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast was expensive so we skipped that. (99293748)

Good sized room and
comfortable beds - very important!

The shower room was a bit of a squeeze.

John Howard Hotel is comfortable, clean hotel and is a good base to get around the sights. The staff were generally helpful, we thought the evening meal was excellent.
There was torrential rain while we were there and being on the top floor we had a slight leak through the roof, when I reported it, the maintenance staff were there within a few minutes to have a look and take care of it. Would recommend a stay here. (3305009258)

Large
comfortable room, suite on top
floor. Hotel
clean and with good
facilities.

Only the weather, dont think the hotel could do a lot about that unfortunately.

hotel extremely close to Albert hall so no taxi required late at night
however it is a very long walk to a tube station
some of the rooms are only accesssed by 1 flight of stairs after you leave the lift.Overall the hotel is quiet and clean and is a great place to stay when visiting the Albert Hall (3305384041)

nicely furnished room

searching for the tea/coffee maker as they are put away so neatly they are not easily found!
Keith from Farnham, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 14 October 2006
Generally good value - especially with an unrequested upgrade to an apartment / suite.
The only downside was that, when we checked in, we were told that the restaurant and bar were closed 'for a private function'. It would ave been useful to know that in advance. (3305419955)

Only there for a short time to see a concert so the accommodation was considered to be perfectly suitable for our purpose, comfortable and close to the venue. (3305428714)

Large,
clean bathroom and good
size room.
Quiet.
Bathroom door banged shut and didn't stay
open. TV could not be swung round to watch from the bed! No obvious power point to plug in kettle, but did find one the opposite side of the room to the tea tray

I thought the value for money was good. The area is excellent and near all amenities but far enough to avoid the congestion charge if you are driving. The air conditioning unit was noisy and as it was a particularly hot day, you couldn't turn it off, so sleeping was a problem. Taxi's regularly go up and down the road, which is nice. (3304957384)

Very nice
area and the room was a good
size.

The room was clean and tidy and of a very good size. For the location, we believed that the price was competitive and certainly worthwhile. For a cheap overnight stay, the John Howard Hotel covered all our basic needs. (2810960)

value and excellent proximity to the

The hotel could do with updating its decor
