Friendly staff.

No remote control of TV and only 1 or 2 channels available. Broken light bulb on the left bedside. Noisy room. No AC.

Most enjoyable all round, comfy room, staff very helpful, food very good, will be staying again same time next year for the same event!
(97230740)

very comfy bed, room very clean, food very nice, pleasant stay all round thankyou, you had over booked us but had sorted the rooms around to accommodate us which we very much appreciated

Only not allowed to use the internet when it stated we could, we had to pay and was a bit surprised, maybe a free half an hour would be a courteous service maybe but just a thought
Anonymous (Group of adult friends) 21 May 2008
Had we been notified that the position of our rooms were immediately above the Ballroom with a function and Disco planned up to mid-night! We most certainly would not have booked with this hotel.

I wish I'd known there was no lift available. When two senior citizens travel (and take heavier luggage than they should!) it's essential to have a lift. We were saved when we arrived because a dear young staff member hoisted our luggage upstairs however, we bumped it down ourselves when it was time to leave.
(97720767)

Convenient to the town center as well as the railway station. Pleased to have the breakfast facility. Appreciated the heat coming on during our stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Available parking a big help.

The pant press did not work in our room. I had to request for the 'iron and ironing board in every room'. Breakfast was okay but not exceptional; little variety. People running in the hallway at 2 a.m.! No lift.
Stuart from Dereham, GB (Solo business traveller) 06 October 2007
The hotel is obviously very old and has changed little over the years.
The decor in the communal areas could have been better.
The staff were attentive but maybe a little naieve, I asked for a fish knife for my sea bass and the waitress at first didn't know what one was, then went to find out if they had any, then when she found out they didn't offered me a steak knife. The food was excellent but considering the number of fish specialities there should have been fish knives.

Our twin room was spacious and pleasant, with sofa and seating area, and windows looking out in 2 directions.

The bathroom (on the twin room) was shabby. The single room was very small and cramped.

The hotel is basic and adequate but it's old world appearance belies the reality of the interior. The initial impression of the reception area wasn't good because of the smell of cigarette smoke and the slot machines. The room was noisy because of the cistern from the gents loo next door, and the traffic outside. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good.

Good breakfast. Room was adequate and staff were helpful and friendly.

Noisy cistern from gents loo next door to my room. Smell of cigarette smoke in downstairs areas of the hotel.

Good room, excellent breakfast, lousy TV! But many thanks anyway!
(99542987)

The size of the room and the fourposter bed! (Sakespear suite)

Very large oldfashioned TV- poor reception on 1 & 2, only programmes 1 to 5 and TV could not be turned to allow viewing in bed.

Huntingdon and the surrounding areas are really nice. The hotel was in a good central location and even though on the main ring road, there was no excessive noise. There wasn't really anything apart from the outside decor that you could fault but then again it is an old coaching inn.
(99924496)

Staff were excellent, very helpful at all times. Rooms and hotel interior kept spotless at all times. Food served was excellent and good value for money.

Outside could do with decorating, looks a bit shabby for first impressions
Colin from Ottawa, Canada;CA (Group of work colleagues) 06 April 2007
Excellent location. Close to the train station and the downtown. Lovely courtyard. Just the place to relax after a long day. Providing the weather cooperates. And again, the staff was first rate. Friendly and helpful in all respects. The lady who cleaned my room, the waitress in the breakfast room and the bar staff come in for special mention. They made us, as visiting Canadians far from home, feel comfortable and secure. I would very much recommend this hotel.
(99985835)

The staff made it a real treat. And of course, the beer was good too!

I would have prefered a smoking room but this was not a big deal.

The accommodation was very good for a small town hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating and provided a good level of service.

Hotel is full of character and is situated right in the middle of Huntingdon and is easily reached by car along the one way system. The staff were very efficient at check in and were very attentative to your needs. i had been pre-warned that the interior decorations were slightly run down but it was not as bad as I had expected as it was quite charming and very traditional. I thoroughly recommend eating at the restaurant as the dinner and breakfast was excellent quality and the portions were very generous. It was perfect for a business stop over.

It would have been nice to have been told about the building site opposite our room, and that building work started at 7am. The tap in the bathroom did not work neither did the kettle although the kettle was replaced, The milk had gone thick and lumpy we got the impression the room had not been used for a while. On the other hand the breakfast was great and had a good choice. The staff were very friendly and we had good service.

the four poster bed was great and a welcome surprise

the hotel itself needs bringing upto date, it was very dusty and the windows in our room did not close properly.

The hotel has won an award for its floral displays in the courtyard and the bright coloured flowers add very nicely to this delightful small hotel/inn.
The check in was handled excellently and we were shown and given a choice of two rooms. The check out again wasquick and efficient.

Our Stay in The George was very pleasant. The staff we found friendly and helpful even though they were very busy. Our room was huge and the beds comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean.

Information on how to get into the car park, and that we didn't have to pay car park charges would have been useful.
Would be nice to have Hotel WiFi for internet users.
Being both diabetic and coeliac, my wife would have preferred a menu that catered more for her dietary requirements. The waiting staff were excellent - refreshing her gluten free breakfast roll for her and checking on the gluten free status of food.
Gluten free basically means food containing no wheat, rye, barley or oats. One needs to be aware of flour in sauces, coating on chips, in sausages etc. A few more dishes on the menu suitsble for coeliacs to choose would be a grear help. Fortunately, she loves salmon! And doesn't often eat desserts, which are usually flour based or too sweet.

Great to stay in an Old English Inn, with so much history. Made it more interesting tracing family history.

No spare loo roll, basin had a slow drain, TV picture reception could be better.

We thought the whole atmosphere in the hotel was friendly, efficient and pleasant. The food was excellent, staff extremely helpful, polite and friendly.
General appearance of the hotel was very attractive - beautiful flower displays around the courtyard.
The weather was very hot and humid and a fan was installed in the bedroom along with a supply of mineral water.

Centrally located, employees friendly

Placed in a room above the kitchen - whole floor vibrated with loud rumbling noise coming from extraction fan in kitchen. Had to ask twice for it to be switched off and eventually got some peace at about 9.30 pm.

Had a one night stay at the George during a vacation in England. We struggled a bit finding the hotel, running around the ring-road twice. The hotel itself has an air of Dickens in the publiv areas and the back yard, the rooms and the corridors a bit worn down impression.
Quiet - no traffic noise, some low frequency noise from the ventilation system. Fairly clean.
Friendly staff - good food.
(The town itself not worth a visit compared to the other small towns around.)
(3304958076)

The George had a Dickenian feeling.
Dinner very good

A bit worn impression
Noisy ventilation system
Too heavy smell of tobacco-smoke in corridors and sittingroom (first floor)
