A problem with booking through your company is we cannot communicate directly with the accommodation provider. We specifically wanted to have a hotel with restaurant so we did not have to drive on a Sunday evening. On arrival we were told that they did not cook on a Sunday evening. We decided to find somewhere else. If you want somewhere basic to stay, with pleasant service, then this is it. (97045356)

positive comments Convenient for the pub attached
negative comments Small room, basic facilities, no frills

For the money, the Black Horse is hard to beat. The food and beers were good and the service excellent. The chalet rooms were more than adequate. I was also very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get into Cambridge at rush hour in the morning - only 25 minutes to get right into the centre. TwThe only real suggestion for improvement would be to have Wi-Fi internet access. If this were available I'd certainly give this top marks (97370410)

positive comments Quiet, easy to find, good food, friendly staff, only 25 minutes by car at rush hour to centre of Cambridge

positive comments Food was first class
negative comments Foreign lad behind bar very helpful. Young female waitress had all the worlds troubles on her shoulders or so it seemed. A smile doesn't cost anything.

My partner and I wanted to visit Cambridge but did not want to stay in a big busy hotel. I chose the BLACK HORSE because of its locality, its reputation of good food, fine ales and a friendly atmosphere. The accommodation was basic, but clean and tidy. The food was excellent, the locals were really friendly and happy to say a good choice of ales.To go into Cambridge we did the park and ride for £2 per person. You take the car to a car park and a bus picks you up and takes you into the city centre and back again. Great value. We will definatly reccomend the BLACK HORSE for anyone and willbe going back again. (99471528)

positive comments The room was small, clean and tidy.We knew we would only be using the room for sleeping and a shower so we did not need luxurious extra's. It
negative comments I was very happy with the accommodation but if I had to didlike something it would be the decor was a little dated

I chose this hotel as I prefer to stay out of town centres and find a more relaxed rural location. The accomodation is chalet-style near to a locals pub. My stay included a Friday night and I was awoken numerous times by the comings and goings of groups in various states of drunken giddiness. Probably would have not mentioned that here, as par for the course really, but the shower not working to boot left me a little hacked off. There's only so much you can wash in a sink! On the positive side, lovely setting, friendly locals, clean room and pleasant pub and restaurant. A word about the food. Excellent. I ate there both nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good choice from the specials board. I had possibly the best rib-eye steak I have ever had. Very reasonably priced too. (99171145)

positive comments Large comfortable bed. Cleanliness good.
negative comments Chalet style accomodation, which is fine, but not when the walls are paper thin. Coughing from next room was intrusive. Non-functioning shower.

Most enjoyable stay. Comfortable bed, everything fresh and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of food for the size of Inn, We had intended to have an evening meal in Cambridge but choice of food and wine was good so we dined there both nights. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere. (99455238)

positive comments Fresh airy room with ample space. Double glazing so sound proof. Tray of tea/coffee facilities in room. Comfortable bec
negative comments Size of ensuite bathroom facilities. We stayed in the main Inn not the motel.

Very easy place to get to and it dominates the small village. It really is a Motel though not a hotel, which I hadn't really taken into account. But that has its own charm! However, the room was really rather pokey for the price and decor and facilities were somewhat dated - for instance, these days you have to go out of your way to find a TV without teletext. The staff however were extremely friendly and informative and we had a great breakfast, though again - paying what we did - you'd expect fresh coffee rather than instant. Just a little thing but it makes a difference. All in all, a pleasant experience but for the price there needs to be rather more polish. (99916120)

positive comments Friendly staff, great breakfast (apart from coffee)
negative comments Smallish room with not much in it

The overall experience was very good other than not being able to access my room until six oclock in the evening . Also there was a distinct smell of fried food in the main bar which somewhat tainted the experience . (99108015)

positive comments The food was excellant , the room comfortable , the beer in the adjoining pub was good and the staff were very freindly .
negative comments Not being able to get into the accomodation until the pub opened at six .

The food in the restaurant is really lovely. I didn't need the starter, delicious though it was -- made finishing the main course problematic for me, though it too was beautifully cooked. The en suite bathrooms are a bit on the tiny side. You'd struggle if you were on the overweight side. Apart from that we had a great time. (2783142)

positive comments Lovely village pub, atmospheric, good food, pleasant village

Flew in from overseas for Cambridge research. Not familiar with areas in England. Enjoyed the visit.Friendly locals were very helpful in driving me several miles to get dinner. One off trip. (2787035)

positive comments Friendly staff, helpful, great atmosphere. Comfortable rooms each night.
negative comments No food available on Sunday night. Listed as Cambridge but many miles out and I had no transport. Fresher weekend was reason no closer accomodation available.

Extremely helpful and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was very clean and cosy. The only slight problem was the lighting; the room could have done with a brighter bulb! The restaurant was excellent, serving a top breakfast! On the whole, a very enjoyable stay. (2664677)

positive comments Very friendly and helpful staff with an excellent restaurant.
negative comments Could improve with higher wattage bulbs in the rooms.

Room was small but tidy. Because the room faced out on to the pub garden it was necessary to keep the curtains closed so the room was very dark (and cold considering it was July). I don't think I would like to stay there in the winter! Overall, suited our requirements. (2478082)

positive comments Lovely village setting. Handy motel style accommodation
negative comments Rooms were quite dark. The shower was freezing cold and lacked power.
