Very classy accomodation Helpful, friendly staff Ideal location Not cheap- but this is central Rome! (97095240)

positive comments The location was fabulous. The hotel was very stylish.

positive comments Very easily walking distance of where we wanted to be - a great location.
negative comments Serious noise issues with the occupants of the adjoining apartment. When we knocked on their door, before we had said a word we were told 'you are renting your apartment, we live here', so we were obviously not the first to have the problem.

Always when booking on line the price you pay does not always reflect the hotel pictures and description of what is on offer but in this case your price for our stay could not be faulted. We had a delightful superior room, good views as on top floor, wonderful breakfast over looking the Colosseum, what a view. (3305291626)

positive comments centre location, quality hotel superior room
negative comments nothing to dislike about the hotel, only fault that the outside street traffic noise from the passing tram could be heard at night

The hotel staff was extremely professional and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. The Coloseum was so close you felt like you could reach out and touch it from the roof-top bar and breakfast room. Most of the sights not to be missed where in walking distance of the hotel. (99549275)

positive comments The location was excellent for our needs.
negative comments Nothing comes to mind.

A fantastic hotel that we would recommend to anyone visiting Rome and wanting to stay near the ancient sites of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine. (3304081033)

positive comments We could see the Colosseum from our bedroom window, which was lovely, and it only took us a few minutes to walk there. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was lovely too.
negative comments Because we were visiting in the usual Italian holiday season (mid August), most of the quality restaurants near to the hotel were closed, so we had to venture further afield to find places to eat.

positive comments The hotel was in a fantastic location which was what attracted us. Plenty of local quality restaurants if you did not want to travel out far at night. Hotel has its own roof garden/ restaurant but is limited with the menu almost cafe style.Rooms were clean and well attended.

The colloseum is literally a stones throw from the hotel and is illuminated at night so looks lovely from the roof terrace. Watch out for cab fares and try to book cabs through the hotel where possible as we were overcharged travelling from the Termini to the hotel (20 euros and it should have been 9!) (2900030)

positive comments Great location, clean, good food and friendly, helpful staff
negative comments Can't think of anything.

The view from the terrace overlooking the Colosseum, where breakfast is served is as impressive, as it seems on the website. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean, attended to regularly during the day and were in keeping with the ambience of ancient Rome (all marble and brass fittings). (2010927)

positive comments The rooms were extremely clean, beautifully appointed and the staff were very friendly

My husband and I stayed in the Hotel Gladiatori on 16-17 October 2005. I planned the trip as a surprise for my husband's birthday. I chose the Hotel Gladiatori because of the central location and particularly for the view of The Coliseum from the bedroom window! We stayed in a deluxe room for 2 nights. Everything was perfect! All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They even arranged for a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room for my husband's birthday, which was a lovely surprise! I will be visiting Rome again in the near future and will definitely be staying in the Hotel Gladiatori! (2254521)

positive comments Location, view, cleanliness

Lovely, luxurious hotel, in a fantastic location - well worth a stay. (2792985)

positive comments The location of the hotel was absolutely great. The hotel itself was lovely - just like the pictures on the website suggested. Although our room did not overlook the Coloseum, it did have lovely views and was luxurious - especially the bathroom.
negative comments Although it is to be expected in a four star hotel, the drinks on the roof terrace were expensive and as such, we did not stay in the hotel to eat and drink much - apart from at breakfast which was included (and was lovely).

A very nice boutique hotel with lushly decorated rooms and spectacular views of the Colosseum, especially from the rooftop, where you can have the excellent continental breakfast and enjoy an evening drink. The location, on the southeastern corner of the tourist track, is convenient but perhaps not as central as other hotels. The hotel is on a thoroughfare that seems to have an endless stream of trolleys, buses, trucks, speeding cars, and emergency vehicles, even late at night, so if you have a room that faces that way, you might need earplugs. (2083687)

positive comments Views of the Colosseum from the hotel; breakfast on the rooftop.
negative comments Sound insulation in the rooms facing the street.

This hotel is not cheap, but is worth the extra expense. Great location - a 2 minute walk to the Colosseum, a nice park right across the street, lots of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Great neighborhood! We walked to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, Piazza del Poppolo, the Pantheon - all within walking distance. The Vatican is as well, but we took a cab to get there early. (2132347)

positive comments Excellent location, large bathroom, comfy bed, good breakfast.
negative comments Drink prices at the rooftop bar - $15 euro for a beer? Also, a personal issue with me: no ESPN on cable. I'll live...

The hotel is well located for the sights, with fantastic views of the Colosseum. However, its location on a very busy road can make getting any sleep difficult. The roof bar is wonderful for an evening drink, but is exorbitant - a small beer cost 11 euros. Breakfast served on the same roof terrace is excellent - the coffee was the best I had whilst in Rome. (1972274)

positive comments The room was nicely equipped and clean. Good location and fantastic breakfast, especially the view!
negative comments The bar was extortionate. The hotel was in a very noisy location.

The location of the hotel was excellent with views of the Colossuem from the roof terrace and bar. The American breakfast was lovely, but we ate at the bar/restaurant on the first night which was expensive (35 Euros for the cheaper bottles of wine)and the food wasn't up to standard for the price. The hotel was handy for public transport and is within walking distance of the main attractions in Rome. Overall I would recommend this hotel. (1953382)

positive comments The superior room we booked was very good, everything we required was there including bath robes and slippers.
negative comments Room wasn't spotlessly clean.

After sending many hours searching the internet and worrying - we definitely made the right choice with the Hotel Gladiatori. We found the colleseum and Forum area totally fantastic. The hotel was just perfect - Nothing could be faulted. Even though the traffic is busy (but less busy than I had actually imagined) there is absolutely no noise in the room. The bed was so comfortable - it made us go out a buy a new bed when we got home. We are tempted not to let anyone know how fantastic this hotel is as we dont want it to be fully booked when we try to rebook - but thats not fair. (2107862)

positive comments Wonderful view from the terrace at breakfast time and in the evening.

The location and view are excellent. The room was nice, with a comfortable bed and very spacious, clean and luxurious bathroom. Staff was courteous, but not as knowledgable as expected. (2185553)

positive comments Excellent location and view.
negative comments Staff's knowledge of local transportation and events.

John from Wirral, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 01 May 2005

The location of this hotel is perfect, unobstructed view of the Colisseum, lots of restaurants nearby where the food is good and the prices are even better. The staff at the Gladiatori make the hotel, nothing is too much trouble for them. It is only a small hotel so book early there isn't a better place to stay in Rome. Absolutely ideal for all ages. (2094197)

positive comments Spotlessly clean, staff are the friendliest and most helpful in any hotel I've stayed.
negative comments You can't say anything bad about perfection.

We've stayed in Rome often, and were very favorably impressed with this new (2-year-old) hotel in a lovely, former 16th-C convent. The rooms and common areas are all well furnished and kept immaculate, though none are spacious. On first sight of our room I immediately called the desk to ask if this was indeed the deluxe double we had booked. The manager assured me it was -- because of the view. When we opened the curtains and shutters we understood; the view of the Colosseum, and the city beyond, was unrivalled in our experience. The substantial discount offered by Active Hotels eased the pain of the nightly rate, though the room still felt small (but not really uncomfortable) at that price. But the furnishings and amenities were fine, everything worked well, and the chamber staff were friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. Breakfasts (traditional Italian and/or British-American) are served on the roof, which is divided into a pleasant, fairly large enclosed space and an ample terrace; both offer spectacular views and plenty of natural light -- particularly the terrace, of course, which offers one of the best imaginable panoramas of Rome, yet hasn't been discovered to date -- so you can have this splendor, and a cafe or prosecco, often all to yourself. The staff, from the management and desk staff to the cleaning personnel, seemed universally well-trained, professional, and friendly. This is a small hotel, and the management appears to have understood how to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by working on this scale. Every member of the staff did everything he or she could to attend to our needs and make us comfortable. That level of service is what one might expect but doesn't always get at these prices. Incidentally, the senior desk staff is generally fluent in English; you can try out your Italian (including non-verbal) with most of the other staff. For anyone who's ever spent a couple of days in Rome, a glance at a map will be enough to convince you how conveniently the hotel is located. The Roman and Imperial forums and the Palatine (and of course the Colosseum) are just a few minutes' walk. The entrance to the recently-opened Domus Aurea of Nero is literally across the street. One can walk to a great many of the city's major attractions, including museums, churches, shops, and restaurants. You can get to Trastevere on foot in 15-20 minutes. And when you're too tired to walk any further, the desk staff can get a taxi for you within 5 minutes. The major bus lines, as well as trams, also have stops virtually at the front door or around the corner. Now that I look back over my rave, I realize it's getting suspicious. Honestly, I'm not an employee or a PR agent for the hotel. Not related to anyone connected to the hotel. I was simply motivated to say what I thought because I've just come back from my visit, liked the hotel very much, and think they deserve credit for what they've accomplished and are continuing to do. positive comments Professional, friendly, helpful staff. Superb location, views. Good furnishings, amenities. Pleasant breakfast, great roof garden.
negative comments Deluxe double was somewhat cramped at this price.

The hotel was excellent all round - the location was obviously spot on: worth the slightly higher cost for the view of the Colosseo out of the window! (Rooms 42 and 43 are worth asking for!) Though we didn't eat at the hotel other than breakfast, all our interactions with the staff were positive - they were always helpful and friendly, in particular the guy on the front desk in the afternoons (whose name I should have noted, but bore a striking resemblance to Data from Star Trek!) who was continually helpful, friendly and happy. It's always the little things that make the difference (one assumes hotels will get the basics right) and they did here. Though small tasks may seem unimportant such as finding (in fact, giving) me a cigarette lighter when the shops were all closed on a public holiday, or letting us wait the 2 hours for our airport car on the roof terrace with a free drink after checking out, they made a big difference to our stay, and I'd heartilty recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Rome. positive comments Perfect location, helpful staff and a good room - recommended!

This hotel is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. We expected a really nice hotel from the photos but we were blown away when we got into our room. The room overlooked the Coliseum and there was a fully stocked mini bar with champagne waiting for us. I was surprised to hear the phone ringing minutes after entering the room to hear the voice of the hotel manager asking if everything was ok in the room. The deluxe room was well worth it. The hotel staff, one in particular was very helpful. They recommended good restaurants and taxi services. We would definitely stay in this hotel again as i'm sure we will be re visiting Rome in the future. (1929170)

positive comments Excellent service. Recommended places to eat and the room was perfect!
