Good hotel, very clean with excellent rooms. (97105421)

positive comments The rooms have just been refurbished and are of an excellent standard. It's extremely good value for money.
negative comments There is still some decorating work going on but it didn't effect us in the slightest. The biggest down side is the nightclub that is underneath, you need to have a room away from the main road otherwise it's noisy.

This hoel is really well situated in central Calais, it has good private off street patking which seemed pretty secure. The room we had was very spacious, we had a family room for 2 adults and 2 children and we had a room that was excellent - it was divided into two parts so the children had their own part with their own television which they thought was fantastic. We also had a lovely spacious bathroom which we could all fit in! (97081922)

Conversion to a Mercure is not complete. We had an old room, albeit at a reduced rate. Noisy, uncomfortable, old shower/plumbing, 1-star quality. I'm sure it will get better. (97200019)

positive comments convenient for the port, good restaurant, pleasant helpful staff
negative comments Below Mercure standard

After travelling for 2 months, in comparison with others expected a larger room for our money. Was adequate for our needs and location was great. (97225301)

positive comments Handy to station and restaurants
negative comments Signage poor. Had trouble finding it. Receptionist not too welcoming but morning staff great. Very small room.

The room was very small for the price we paid, and very cold. (97598644)

positive comments convenience of location
negative comments he room was small, even though we paid a superior rate. There was no heating in the room so it was very cold, even though we were given a small heater.

The hotel is undergoing redecoration and other work - I would like to have known this. The hotel should be fine when the work is complete so check before booking. (97991391)

positive comments Location was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful
negative comments The hotels is a little past it's best - it's age and decor is beginning to look shabby. There is work going on to improve which makes things worse. However this is not reflected in the price. I have stayed in much better appointed hotels for less. Value for money was poor

Although the price was not expensive, my overall view of the facilities was not good. There are few hotels in Calais and it is crying out for one that stands out in quality. George V has the potential if only some money was spent on bringing it up to date. The location is excellent giving access to a number of good restaurants and the local township. (97818973)

positive comments The staff were friendly and efficient and not served well by the facilities on offer.
negative comments The hotel rooms were very dated and in need of modernisation. for example the shower over the bath appeared to be held together by fresh air.

Lynn E from Cramlington Northumberland, GB (Mature couple) 24 July 2007

In dire need of the already planned renovation. Looked tired and a bit shabby, but very clean. Good secure car park, pleasant staff with a friendly helpful attitude. Breakfast needs upating along with the decor, poor choice and expensive compared to similar rated hotels. Would stay again despite comments and will be good to visit after the moderisation. (99390980)

positive comments Location, cost and very pleasant staff. English spoken if this is important for a client
negative comments Shabby some things not working properly such as the shutters Awful breakfast, expensive

John from Sibson, Nuneaton, GB (Group of adult friends) 12 June 2007

excellent position and it would have been helpful if the hotel had notified of town centre closure on day of arrival due to cycle racing. Difficulty in finding hotel car park at rear. (99279285)

positive comments Very central in the town and restaurants etc. Secure car park but limited space.
negative comments Noisy neighbours - opposite a very busy and noisy pub.
Excellent
RICHARD WAYNE from WORCESTER, GB (Other) 11 June 2007

an excellent accommodation for an overnight or short stay offering access to all major roads ,offering secure off road parking and excellent food . (99470194)

positive comments the secure parking for valued and cherished vehicles, the location to ferry and town centre and motorways ,the good food and general feel of the atmosphere with the staff.
negative comments not enough tea and coffee in the rooms

GREAT LOCATION FOR AN OVERNIGHT STOPOVER....HOTEL IS SITUATED IN CENTRE OF TOWN, SO BARS AND RESTAURANTS ARE ON YOUR DOORSTEP....AND, OF COURSE, AFTER A NIGHT OUT, A SHORT STAGGER BACK TO THE HOTEL IS ALWAYS A BONUS. MAIN ROAD CAN BE A BIT NOISEY FROM THE 'BOY RACERS' CRUSING AT NIGHT WITH STEREO'S BLARING AND NOISEY EXHAUSTS, BUT OTHER THAN THAT, A NICE, PLEASANT DAY. HOTEL DOES LOOK A BIT TIRED, BUT CLEAN SHEETS, CLEAN TOWELS, HOT WATER (99288874)

positive comments GREAT LOCATION
negative comments POOR PARKING
Excellent
Daniel from Wickford, GB (Mature couple) 02 June 2007

The front of the hotel gives a very false impression. It looks like a small somewhat seedy place, whereas when you walk through the door you realise that is very wrong. It is a large, comfortable hotel. Our room was lovely... nice bed, large bathroom, piping hot water, very quiet too. Overall we had a very nice stay and would return if we were to visit Calais again. (99083956)

positive comments Large comfortable room. Polite and friendly staff.
negative comments Buffet breakfast a little dissapointing. Bacon and eggs not very nice.
Good
Sharon from Swanmore, GB (Mature couple) 09 May 2007

Overall this hotel offers really good value for money. We have stayed here twice and will do so again when we next come on an overnight stay as it is so central for shopping etc. The first time we stayed we used the restaurant but found it a little expensive so this time we just walked a few yards down the road to eat. (99690158)

positive comments Good value, friendly staff and comfortable clean accommodation.
negative comments Self service breakfast was ok but cooked food a little tired and it would have been nice to have fresh tea & coffee served instead of having to help yourself.
Excellent

Keith from rochester, Kent, GB (Mature couple) 29 March 2007

No overall comment. (99243409)

positive comments The hotel was near to the port and quite central, the car park was a bonus as the hotel was in a residential area.
negative comments This is not a dislike, but we feel that a seperate bar for drinks before and after dinner would be nice.
Excellent

Good central hotel for an overnight stay. Resturant was excellent, although a separate bar area would be better than the lounge. Good value for money (99121802)

positive comments The hotel was very central, the rooms were comfortable and the resturant was excellent
negative comments Larger rooms would be better and the general decoration was a bit lacking

negative comments lack of tea and coffee in the rooms.

The evening meal was excellent as was the service. If you don't stay then consider calling in for a meal. Overall we will be back - isn't that the best recommendation? (3304660868)

positive comments Good secure car park, excellent restaurant, good central position. Clean comfortable room.
negative comments Room was a little small and the receptionist a little curt on arrival.
