Room quality was fantastic

That is was very
noisy (air conditioning unit outside the room) so
noisy that I did not sleep and the pillows were like bricks
helen from Sandhurst, GB (Group of work colleagues) 29 October 2007
The ground floor of the hotel has been refurbed and is loveley. The bedroom floors are terrible! The rooms are tiny, smelly and tatty. Our room had a hole in the en suite door. Refurb of these floors is much needed but PLEASE lower the number of rooms and make the rooms bigger. (97313808)

Too
small, too
old,
poor condition.

Clean,
nice and modern room. Fully equipped.

Sound insulation could be better. Not impressed with
food quality in
restaurant.

OK for the price and location. (97247064)

Reasonably priced and close to
centre. Staff
friendly.

FREE
parking is on street and so NOT secure.
Shower too
small.
Breakfast was cold 20 minutes before the end of
service and after waiting 20 minutes for it to be replenished - left without eating.

The room was adequete but still very
small, also the corridors leading to the rooms was very narrow and slightly neglected.

This was the second time we had stayed at the Paragon, a large group of internet friends from all over the country. I was disappointed to find the bar didn't open for lunch as it had the last time we stayed and unless you want to go into town there is nowhere else. The lounge is also small for the size of the hotel, and very smokey. (99135411)

The rooms were
clean and
adequate, though a
little on the
small side.
Breakfast was a good choice.

We were in rooms above function rooms which were
noisy, although it did stop when we were
told it would. I would try and avoid these rooms next time if I could.

food was excellent all in all I would recommend it to all our family & friends

General experience was good. The staff appeared to be working extremely well under the pressure of what seemed to be a busy period of time for the hotel. (99289338)

It was situated near
central Birmingham which was ideal for our purposes. Staff were very
helpful.

The long hike to our room with luggage. (No porters apparent) The undercover car park was flooded in places.
Janice from Ulceby, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 07 March 2007
The website said the NEC was 5km away I would argue with that distance. Taxi service used by hotel had no meter inside just a price quoted by driver!
Big hotel, many function rooms must get quite busy in spring/summer seasons. Breakfast room very nicely set out, breakfast good value.
Overall a good overnight visit, would use again if ever decide to go shopping or some such in Birmingham. (99170316)

Good
basic accomodation. Excellant
food. Everything was kept
nice and
clean. Would certainly use the hotel again.

The hotel was going through a renovation, which did not cause any problems, but the hotel rooms do need freshening up.

I had to pay the double rate for the room even with single occupancy. When queried I was told that the rate went with the room. I certainly didn't eat two breakfasts so feel that there should be a reduction on this basis. (99971891)

The room was filthy, it took 35 minutes to check in because of not enough staff on duty, the case of the phone was broken with no back on it and curcuit boards handing out of it, when I use the phone to telephone reception there was no response
, it was very noisy with lots of sound traveling through from the next room. The room felt like I was staying in a doss house rather than a hotel. Overall the hotel was a disgrace (99258464)

This maybe a formal complaint, but I think the hotel should act as they should at the time and acted on my comments. I will not be spending any more time on this issue (99614801)

The bed in room 125 has a sharp spring sticking up from the middle and gave me a very restless night. When I informed the lady at the desk in the morning she said 'Oh sorry about that' and then walked away after quickly checking me out. This left a very bad impression as no procedure was immediately in place to act on my complaint. The hotel was subsequently (and understandably) given bad reviews to all my business colleagues throughout my stay in
Birmingham. My stay the following night in another hotel was fabulous

Secure
parking,
easy to find and only 10 mins / £5 in a taxi from good bars and restaurants

Very
Noisy after 11pm at night, due to the lay out of the hotel.

Location - although derelict it felt safe and was convenient for walking in to town centre.
All the staff were very polite and helpful.
The bar is rather large and open but there is a small lounge which is much more pleasant. (99628106)

Dining room
facilities with the coloured glass skylights and the staircase. Sympathetic renovation of Edwardian
building. Garage
parking.

Wardrobe facility too short for a skirt when hanging on hooks at bottom of hangers. Slightly odd
location - mostly derelict

The hotel was adequate for a weekend business stay, but for the same cost we could have stayed at a Travel Lodge or Inn and had a much larger and pleasant room and one suited to two people. I could not have done any work in this space- there were two of us (it was supposed to be a double room), and we had to keep moving the only chair around so that we could get at things around the bed. There were no plug sockets near the table top (which was extremely cramped), apart from the one that the TV was plugged into.
The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly, but the Helena Resturant staff were very 'off hand' and didn't really want to be there.
Excellent parking facilities - good and secure. (3304864005)

Hotel was well placed for gaining access to
City and where I needed to be for business.

The room had a very bad drainage smell (which I noted on hotel feedback form). We had to ask for toilet rooms after the room had been serviced. The
bathroom was so
small there was no room to store things.
Paul from Penygraig, United Kingdom;GB (Group of adult friends) 17 June 2006
This does not really apply as the information we needed was given to us before hand. Your map was most helpful and easy to follow, staff were able to give general guidance to local venues. Booking a taxi was very easy and our whole trip was most enjoyable. We would use this hotel in the future. (3304835316)

It had everything we needed and was
nice and
clean. Staff were very
helpful and polite,
breakfast of a good
standard.

The size of the room was slightly claustrophobic, but for the amount of time spent in it, it was
adequate for our needs.

Wonderful!!!!!! A comfy night's stay, a lovely breakfast, pleasant staff and value for money, what more could you ask for? (3304636541)

the hotel was marvellous the bed was very comfy, and the ample selection of
breakfast was
great. There is a very reliable lift if for people travelling with lots of luggage. I found it a relly
nice place to stay.Would seriously recommend to others, quite frankly after reading some peoples reports i was a bit put off, but having stayed myself i can honestly say if you're going to moan over a comfy nights stay, then stay at home, this place was brill.

nothing at all i'd give it 10 out of 10 every time, the people who did give this hotel a negative review are most definately
small minded.

The Paragon Hotel is within 10 to 15 minutes walk of the city centre, has lots of rooms and is fine for an overnight stay. I thought it was reasonable value for £45 online booking price but not for the £70 standard single rate. (3304378430)

Accessible by public transport, not far from
centre and train station.
Reception provided a useful street map. No smoking rooms. My room was
pleasant with a large window.

Horrible coffee at
breakfast. No muesli. Long corridors where exits to stairs are not clearly marked.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was small, but clean, the breakfast was great and the staff were helpful when i checked in and out.The location is close to the city centre and it takes you just 15min. walk to the Bullring. (2794437)

Even the room was quite
small it was a
nice place to stay overnight. For staying inside the room and doing some papaerworks it was a bit too
small. All in all the room with the ensuite
bathroom was tidy and everything worked.

Difficult to decide because i was out of the hotel very eary and came back late at night.

As far as the hotel was concerned it was a beautiful building. The rooms were adequate for the price, but when we arrived there was no food available and as stated the receptionist made the whole experience very unpleasant, but without her it would of been fine. (2778347)

It was
clean and most of the staff were
friendly
The receptionist was very unpleasant and deliberately placed us in a room above a generator, so we asked to be moved, karting your bags around such a large hotel was uncomfortable.
