Hotel was adequate for our needs. We were shocked at the room we were first put in but happy that they were willing to move us. Generally the hotel performance was poor compared to what we were expecting. (97261188)

positive comments When we complained about our room upon arrival the hotel were happy to move us.
negative comments Hotel needs a refit, room furniture/equipment tired and needs updating. Staff seemed flustered when we requested normal things like meals, room service. Reception could not provide a map of the area. Generally incompetent but friendly staff!

A NIGHTMARE !..OK, SO IT WAS BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND BUT OUR ROOM WAS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE BAR & DISCO WHICH WENT ON UNTIL 1 A.M. ON MONDAY MORNING. AFTER TRAVELLING 200 MILES TO GET THERE IT WAS THE LAST THING THAT WE NEEDED. THE BEST THE HOTEL COULD OFFER WAS A TYPED OUT LEAFLET IN THE ROOM APOLOGISING FOR THE SUNDAY NIGHT NOISE...TOO LATE METHINKS, IF THEY HAD OF WARNED US IN ADVANCE THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE STAYED THERE. IT SEEMS LIKE THE OWNERS ARE MORE INTERESTED IN KEEPING LOCALS HAPPY RATHER THAN THEIR RESIDENTS. WE WOULD NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN NOR WOULD WE RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ELSE! (97121568)

I believe the information I received via the website and following my online booking answered any queries that I may have had, and offered much more for those that required it. I have had some meals at this Hotel as walk-in customers, and had every confiedence in the overnight accommodation provided. The well lived up to my expectations. (97608169)

Lovely stay, warm and friendly. Apparently a hot spot for locals of a bank holiday. (97622992)

positive comments Quaint decoration, especially the bar. Good breakfast. Chatty friendly staff.
negative comments We needed an iron which took 12 hours to arrive.
Excellent
Joseph from Oldham, GB (Young couple) 29 March 2008

A lovely hotel, with a good character and plenty to offer. Though far from modern, I find this works well in its favour - and the interior fits in well with the Suffolk surroundings, and the maritime feel of the nearby broads. A very fair price for a thoroughly delightful stay. Basic but charming. (97855228)

positive comments The building is a delight, and in a very memorable location. The interior is charming, with good facilities. Our room had a stunning view, and the staff were friendly.
negative comments No bath in the room, which is always a pity! Staff were not always at the reception desk, which can be a problem as one has to leave one's room key when out of the hotel.

No overall comment. (97143597)

positive comments The staff were pleasant and helpful and the room had a nice bath. The restaurant had a good range of choices at a reasonable price
negative comments The room was a bit scruffy and overlooked the function room where a Sunday night function contained a booming disco and masses of noisy young people screaming until 1am. The neighbourhood lovely in the daytime is rather feral at night with crowds of youth hanging about and a high profile of police presence

I booked on a whim to spend New Years Eve with my boyfriend, who is local to the hotel. I had no idea the hotel would be so lovely, it was clean, warm, welcoming and the room could not have been a more romantic setting for a new couple. The view from the bar is stunning and I can imagine fantastic in the Summer!! It is local to so many bars and restaurants and is just a short taxi ride into Town, which has everything. The staff were charming, the room was spotless, the bed very comfortable and altogether a great stay!! (97576814)

positive comments Beautiful, clean, very comfortable
negative comments Nothing to dislike

KEITH from SUTTON, GB (Mature couple) 12 December 2007

Stayed for 3 nights. Room had a great view and the staff were very friendly. Hotel needs a make-over. The good position of the hotel makes it perfect to tour the Broads and the surrounding countryside. We stayed at a time close to Christmas and decided to do some shoping in Norwich. The station is 5 minues walkaway and we paid £5.40 each for a cheap day return. Will return in the summer. (97890339)

positive comments Fantastic view from our room. Nice friendly hotel and staff.
negative comments Hotel was tired and needs a make over.

Tony from Northampton, GB (Mature couple) 06 December 2007

The girl on reception was very informative, we found the room had a view over the Broads which even in December was nice to look out to, even though the room had a single radiator there was a small electric heater in the room, the Kettle was good and the amount of Coffee, Tea, sugar etc was plentifull for our stay, the bed was comfortable and an extra blanket in the wardrobe, the breakfast was brilliant lots of choice & the full English well cooked & plenty of it, the lady serving breakfast was very good, I stop in Lowstoft every year in Dec, this is the first time at this hotel, but from now on I will stop here every time (97468105)

positive comments View over the Broads was great, the breakfast was very good & the staff very plesant, no problems would reccomend this Hotel at any time,
negative comments One little point the shower was poor, only warm and little pressure,

Tired, worn, cheap fixtures and fittings. Had to wait about for repair to be done to (very cheap and flimsy) toilet seat on arrival. Noisy - mainly from other guests although noise from bar/lounge downstairs and bottles being emptied into bin late at night, draughty, stuffy room, uncomfortable bed, poor tea/coffee making facilities. Reception staff however friendly if not proffesional. Food at breakfast good. Would not stay again and would not recommend. (97272375)

The only thing I would have liked to have known beforehand was a telephone contact number for the hotel as I could not predict when I would arrive and the availability of a meal service. This was not provided on the email service. Apart from this minor criticism I thought the hotel was extremely good value for money. The room was clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The view from the room window in the morning onto the broad was an added unexpected bonus. (97428766)

positive comments It was clean and quiet. The food in the restaurant was very good and the staff friendly and informative. It was extremely good value for money.
negative comments I have no dislikes.

J D from Kent, GB (Other) 16 October 2007

We arrived at 9.30pm having travelled up from Kent. The restaurant was closed and bar staff could only offer crisps but said there were lots of takeaways nearby. When talking to a member of staff later on, he offered to make us a sandwich which we declined although offer was appreciated. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast next morning was very good. Service was quick and staff very helpful. Location was easy to find and would be a good base to tour from. (97526666)

positive comments Room was a good size, clean and tidy. Bathroom was modern and clean.
negative comments Very restricted view from window made 1 room very dark. Other room had great view over the water outside. Both rooms were the same rate though.

we only stayed for one night but if we could we would have stayed longer. Booking on line was easy and we had no problems when we arrived to check in at 8p.m. We were pleased with the cleaniness of our room and the nice modern bathroom - Good tip if you get the room we had- take some earplugs with you so that it lessons the noise from people drinking outside. We thought the cost of breakfast was quite expensive at the hotel so we ate in Lowestoft. (97066649)

positive comments the room was very clean especially the bathroom- hotel was situated in lovely area overlooking oulton broads
negative comments because of where our room was situated it was very noisy-only four channels to choose from on t.v

The hotel has a wonderful setting, located on the estury of Oulton Broad and has a very nice bar and outside area which overlooks the water. The hotel itself is in very good order, it looks newly painted and the restaurant looks as if its had a very recent overhaul. The food isn't of a very high standard, fried camembert and overcooked steak on the first night and then hard scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and a pool of water constituted my breakfast. However staff couldn't have been more helpful. I would risk the food again and would be happy to stay here! (97440453)

positive comments Good location, very helpful staff, parking, good room rate, surprisngly good wine.
negative comments 1980's menu and poor quality food, bed didn't have any springs, shower was from the 1970's

Sean from Daventry, GB (Mature couple) 16 July 2007

The hotel is nicely located on the river. Breakfast and carvery were very good. The staff were friendly, the restaurant team were first class. Bedrooms need some investment. Improve the quality of the matresses and I would be happy to recommend the Wherry Hotel. (97308757)

positive comments Very friendly team throughout the hotel. The food was of a good quality, the carvery was excellent value.
negative comments Rooms and bathrooms are very tired and need a refurbishment. The matress was very cheap and not very comfortable.

During my stay I found the room comfortable the staff very helpful and the food choices good. On my second night I was unfortunate enough to have to move rooms in the early hours due the the guest in the room above leaving the bath running, (at 02:30 !!!!!!!). Night porter was extremely helpful and I was transferred to one of the suites, which was excellent. Reception staff, (Sarah), have offered a free upgrade to the suite for my next visit, which is very thoughtful and a nice gesture. (97132346)

positive comments Clean tidy and reasonably sized room
negative comments TV difficult to view from bed, and toilet space very tight to accomodate a nice large bath.

The reception staff were very helpful and when the hair dryer in the room did not work were quick to get a replacement. Unfortunately it was only a stopover, and we did not get breakfast - not the fault of the hotel, our oversleeping! (99487154)

positive comments the room seemed as if it had been recently refurbished
negative comments the bar area was a bit messy. we had to go there as there was no staff in the hotel bar.

The overall welcoming atmospere at the Wherry Hotel was great. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. The accommodation was good value for money and comfortable. The food was plentiful, tasty and well presented. Details of the hotels facilities were in the room in a drawer - perhaps these could have been more prominently displayed to answer a few of the basic questions put to the staff. But all in all a great experience! (99435161)

positive comments Homely atmosphere with all necessary facilities to hand. Location excellent and although Hotel was quiet it was obvious that thought had gone into choosing a 'room with a view' for me.

Have been to the hotel before, but did not remember the details, otherwise would have booked different hotel. Staff is friendly, but room s and bath room are very, very outdated. Restaurant is fine for breakfast but not for dinner. (99970752)

positive comments Location, looks of the hotel from the outside. Parking space. Breakfast was good.
negative comments Rooms outdated and too small. Bath room way too smal and smelly. Too many corridors to reach the room. Restaurant of the hotel not attractive for dinner. Only buffet, no a la carte menu. No view from the room.
