Size of room

Very noisy when I arrived on the Sunday night. I thought that I had booked a hotel next to a nightclub which turned out to be the hotel bar
David from Chipping Norton, GB (Solo business traveller) 26 August 2008

Room was adequate and comfortable and good value for money

Some refurbishment and minor repairs seem necessary

Very pleasant and would stay again provided room was on sixth floor which is modern, clean and very private being so high up.
(97505345)

We were given an alternative room when we discovered that the room on the 2nd floor was only a double bedded room. The alternative twin room on sixth floor was excellent and the staff were very helpful booking taxis when needed.

Original room designated on 2nd floor was of poor quality

The bedroom was excellent

The bathroom was very, very dated. The bar was loud with bad service. We tried the bar food on the 1st evening of our stay and found it to be expensive and probably direct from the freezer. We didn't eat there again. The reception staff (bar 0ne) hadn't a clue about tourists needs and most of them didn't even understand what we were asking. By the way, the young girl on reception on Friday morning was excellent.

Hotel is ok, pricing is reasonable but only on the assumption that other hotels in this district are very expensive.

Easy to find hotel. Convenient for the City & for Whitechapel (10 min walk from Liverpool Street & less than 5 mins from the Rhythm Factory on Whitechapel high street). Friendly reception staff. 24h reception was very useful as we were out very late. Nice room with bathroom. Could not fault the hotel (especially given the price) & will use it again.

The size of the rooms and the general atmosphere of faded grandeur

The bathroom sink was very loose, it was nice to have a bath but the plug would't close.
ROLAND from Maidstone, Kent, GB (Solo leisure traveller) 11 December 2007
When I checked into the hotel there were Notices displayed that there were on-going refurbishment works during the day. I was unaffected by this myself, but it may explain the very tired and dirty condition of Room 518. If I had been aware of the refurbishment programme I would not have booked to stay at the hotel.
(97615645)

It was convenient. The hotel was in reasonable proximity to the event that I was attending.

Regarding Room 518. The floor in the bathroom had clearly not been washed. I walked around in my socks and they were filthy as a result. The laminate flooring was missing in parts. The room smelled. The water spat out from the hot water tap. In short, it was probably the worst hotel room that I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. I am booked into this hotel for another event that I am attending on 20/12/2007. I only hope that the room that I will be staying in will be 'up to scratch'.

I was visiting london after a few years. I always loved Brick Lane, the smells, the food the ambiance, and the City Hotel is perfectly placed - and you can also get a good quiet night sleep in the City here. Staff of various nationalities at this hotel could teach the English a lot about the service industry

The ONLY thing was the workmen going in and out of the Lane breakfast facility and leaving the door open while guests were having breakfast. Admittedly the hotel had signs up - but I was not aware of the work when booking

The rooms where clean, the shower and television where very poor, this was reported but no action after three days, the shower floods the floor, it must be in the hotels interest to repair it, staff english seemed poor when there was a problem. the resraunt charged 12.5% service charge for a poor service, first day the food was good but the last nite was very poor but no one cared, you would never give a tip for such service! do you want to sell the porche in the car park? overall not that bad but could be so much better with a litle effort.
(97350483)

Cheap and nearly chearful good location

TV and shower where both useless, reported to staff but nothing done after three days, food was good one day but very poor the second, it would be nice to have one person with good english, when ever there was a problem in the hotel or restraunt people did not understand!
No air con and a very noisey road so you could not have window open

Friendly and well-situated hotel (a minute or two from Aldgate East tube, right at the bottom of Brick Lane, within easy walking distance of Liverpool St), with an extremely cheap deal! My room was gigantic, a suite in fact with kitchenette and lounge area as well as bedroom. All features were very comfortable and in working order, although some of the furniture, fixtures and fittings were beginning to show their age - at least there was some attempt at making the room look more home-like and characterful than the average hotel room. View from the room was poor, as it was at the back of the hotel and only had small windows, so it was somewhat dark and gloomy. I didn't sample the restaurant or bar, both of which looked pretty good. There was some noise from the bar on Saturday night, but it stopped soon after midnight. On the whole a definite recommendation for anyone wanting somewhere cheap, comfortable and friendly to stay in London. Wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for luxury or the last word in facilities, but at the price you do get a lot for your money.
(3304006887)

Size of room (enormous, in fact a suite!), friendliness of staff.

Room was somewhat down-at-heel - could've done with some refurbishment of paint, and needed airing.
