The room we were allocated had an enormous ventilation shaft from the kitchen running up the outside wall which gave off a loud hum and unpleasant vibration.However we were changed to another room on request.

The location of The Swan was really fantastic for exploring the surrounding area, with Cambridge within easy reach as well as connections to London being good. Thaxted itself is a lovely village with some very interesting buildings to exlpore. The restaurant at The Swan was very pleasent serving great food and the staff were very friendly. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

We stayed here overnight between flights from Stanstead. We'd done it before using a different hotel and been very disappointed, but this time, it was great. The room was warm, confortable, and had everything we needed for our stay. We ate in the restaurant in the evening which was tasty, pub food, and my husband enjoyed the beer. (One of the reasons for choosing The Swan is that he enjoys a pint of GOOD beer, which he tells me is hard to find). The village is beautiful - would have liked to see more of it. We arrived at 10 pm and left at 7 am on the following morning to meet friends off a flight at Stansted. We were greeted by efficient and friendly staff as soon as we arrived and just had time for a drink in the pub, which was delightful and cosy - just wished we had been able to get there earlier to eat, as other guests recommended the food. Accommodation was in a separate block, just across the car park and was a total, but pleasant, contrast to the pub. It was very modern and well-equipped with a super ensuite bathroom. We certainly hope to go back some time and stay longer. (97973909)

The pub area is wonderfully decorated and the orignal features beautifully accentuated. The bed was very comfortable. Restuarant staff were very courteous, freindly and efficient.

Had to wait a while to get the key from the barman (reception wasn't staffed) and he was concentrating on serving his customers. For some reason the bath towels and soap (which were hidden in the towels) weren't in the bathroom but on a chair in the bedroom. Would like to have been warned that there was no lift, so would have requested a ground floor room. (3304823155)

We knew we would be arriving late and told the hotel. In the event we arrived about 10:50pm. There was no food available and the hotel had not asked if we wanted anything when we booked. We tried to buy a drink and a packet of crisps at the bar but were ignored by the bar staff when we stood there. They were mainly chatting with friends. When we button holed one we were told curtly that they were shut. Even for residents, we asked? Alright, but the beer pumps are all off. We left.
