Maes Manor Country Hotel

We attended a wedding reception and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Everything was beautifully presented and the food was nice (especially the full Welsh breakfast). Thank you to the staff who were incredibly patient with us, we were with a large group and who had no sense of urgency in clearing out of the breakfast room! (108535113)

Hotel was clean and tidy in all areas. Grounds were beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Some of the fixtures and fittings in our room were a little tired. The room was a little small once the travel cot was up, we had room 16 which was incredibly noisy until the early hours of the morning as it is situated over the bar and next door to the upstairs function room so if staying there again I would ask for a room far away from these areas as we have a young baby.

We left the hotel after one night although booked for five nights. I was told on arrival that we were not accomodated in the main house but in the coachouse and when I asked for an alternative room in the house, none was available. The room given was totally inadequate as a double. I complained of a fan motor which switched on every half an hour for ten minutes throughout the night. I also complained of an external light which shone directly into the bedroom which, even when curtains were fully closed, the bedroom was lit up like blackpool illuminations. I was refused a refund when leaving because management had said that they had had a few cancellations and could move me around, but that was contrary to what I had been informed the previous day which was that the hotel was fully booked and they couldn't give me another room.

The hotel is situated in lovely grounds and although not moder, it clean and tidy and everything you would expect from a country hotel. The staff were polite and friendly and I can imagine in summer the place is even prettier! The hotel is in a nice location for getting into cardiff without dealing with the city and driving (too cold to park) around brecon etc was a nice too. The local town has plenty of amenities and a great chinese, Peking Garden! Great weekend - and great value for money too!!

Friendly and helpful staff,clean and bright rooms, rooms are cleaned daily,amble parking facilities, lovely view over valley below.

First night was poor as hot water pipe was making noises so had to request a change of room at 4.00 a.m. in the morning after a sleepless night which was done immediately.

Excellent reception and bar Staff, polite and efficient. Don't think the breakfast waitress was a morning person but did her job efficiently.

No curtains and significant draught from the window. Back of the wardrobe broken and lots of rubbish showing behind. Would be nice if the wash basin taps matched slightly (pinnicky I know). Very dust balustrades in the main hotel and dank smells here and there.

Large room with a view across the wooded valley although it does have an architectural detail in the middle (large bridge) but I loved the design of it within the surrounding landscape. Good price for our B&B rate. Friendly staff in the bar, reception and restaurant.

We were in the Coach house which was a little far from the main building for my wife who is recovering from a broken ankle. Very Steep staircase to 1st floor. In fairness we did not ask for a ground floor room when booking.

Lovely situation and grounds. The staff are friendly, efficient and competent. we saw that the admin paperwork behind reception was in welsh, and so presume that the hotel is run in welsh too. This is good supporting country tradition and language.

The cooked buffet breakfast food was very oily. The general condition of the hotel is tired and old and smells such.

very unwelcoming lighting using energy saving bulbs which didnt give the hotel a welcoming feeling both in the bar and the guest bedroom.. in our room the tv hardly picked up any channels, the shaving light didnt work in the bathroom, the plugs were blocked in both the sink and the bath and the couch was too soft to sit on as you just sank into it and it had no support.. there was no instructions on how to use the tv equipment and when we rang down to reception to ask how to connect to the free wifi, they didnt know and had to find out from someone else

After staying at this Hotel previously when in South Wales on business and being very pleased with the accomodation I wanted my family to have the same experience. However I was very disaapointed with being out in a poor room in the stable block. (107419216)

In the dining room we were not shown to our table or asked if we wanted drinks this was a lunch time also we had to ask for a menu and wine. At breakfast again there was no one to show us to a table or to tell us that it was a buffet. We were surprised that fruit was not available.

The staff on reception both on check in and check out were warm, inviting and friendly. the bar staff gave excellant service and knew about the different wines when asked. Breakfast was of an excellant standard and the food piping hot.

However the waitress that served us breakfast was abrupt and not very friendly, and didn't once say please or thank you, manners don't cost anything.
