As a one night stay the hotel was adequate, but we would not have wanted to stay more than a weekend. We would stay again, but only if other preferred hotels in the area were not available.
(108218306)

It was a nice large room and the hotel had plenty of parking space. The staff when spoken to appeared friendly

On arrival the room was very cold and we had to leave the radiators on for severall hours to warm it up as it was a large room. The hot water tap would appear to have an airlock although on the morning of our departure we did have hot water. The breakfast for a full English was the minimum possible.

Good overall. Staff very helpful.
(107523080)

Staff very friendly and helpful, room large, bed comfortable, air con. very useful. Breakfast good.

Bathroom needed updating. TV - couldn't make it work but didn't ask about it either. Shower a little inadequate in size and performance.
Paul from London, GB (Solo leisure traveller) 01 July 2009
Adequate but much better in area. Poor staff training all round, however clean.
(107621523)

Easy to find, good breakfast

No record of reservation stating they were no longer with Active Hotels. Embarrasingly weak reception. Poor value for money - accommodation basic.
Anonymous (Group of work colleagues) 13 May 2009
Very pricey for Bed & Breakfast, generally slipping below the 3 star rating. With some injection of capital though, has the potential to upgrade it's star rating.
(107642231)

Staff very willing to help. Excellent parking facilities. Spacious rooms.

Poor at the meal table, both breakfast and dinner. Too slow. We booked the dinner for our first night, but felt the food was of poor quality and NOT fresh. At breakfast the following morning I pointed out to the waitress some mould on the bread which had been used to make toast. Obviously the bread was not fresh! Also at breakfast there was a poor choice of yogurts and preserves We decided not to have our dinners at the hotel for the rest of the duration of our stay. Not enough comfortable seating in the bar/lounge for our group.
PETER from LYNDHURST, GB (Solo leisure traveller) 05 May 2009
An enjoyable weekend break. My only complaint is the lack of choice for a meal on Sunday evening.
(107936657)

Clean and good sized bedroom

Lack of choice for evening meals on Sunday.

Anonymous (Mature couple) 02 November 2008
Excellent value for money. One night stay. Room pleasant and clean. Cold upon arrival but very quickly heated up when i turned radiators on. Staff friendly. Did not use restaurant but it was busy, bar busy and friendly also.
(107992776)

Beautiful building from front view, good parking facility.
David from Kettering, GB (Solo business traveller) 24 October 2008
A pleasant hotel in which my stay was comfortable. However, I would not be able to recommend the hotel to business colleagues who work in the area quite regularly due to the issues over Internet access and breakfast start time.
(107666848)

Good food, comfortable room, helpful staff (with one caveat below).

Tv did not work but was repaired quickly. Internet access did not work. This was a major issue as I had selected the hotel on the basis of advertised wireless access - staff were unable to assist with the problem. Full breakfast was included in the price paid but not available early enough. I regularly require breakfast at 7.00 when staying in hotels on business.
Anonymous (Family with older children) 03 September 2008
Comfortable and very friendly staff.
(107264018)

Well cooked and presented breakfast.

Noise from food store power supply outside window.
A shelf in bathroom for sponge bags would be helpful.
trevor from Bury St Edmunds, GB (Group of adult friends) 30 August 2008
An enjoyable stay, good value with online rates.
(107239781)

Hotel was welcoming and staff helpful, rooms were large, bed very comfortable, bathroom and shower good. Bar very pleasant, food ok if you are able to take advantage of their 2-4-1 offer, service good.

Strange smell in corridor and room, tiny tv. Unable to book two rooms at one time online! Resulted in three telephone calls to the hotel to confirm requirements.
joanne from basildon, GB (Family with older children) 27 August 2008
The experience was mostly enjoyable other than lack of sleep.
(107235526)

Overall the room was very clean and spacious to accomodate a family

The location of the room which was nearby a function room. A wedding party was taking place and difficult to get to sleep with young children. Understandably, functions do take place at hotels but not good near family rooms. Also, the fire alarm went off at 2.37am and although it was a false alarm we were not notified of this appropriately. I had to go to reception and make a telephone call to be informed of a false alarm.

we didn@t actually get to stay at the carlton manor due to a problem with over booking.
but they did find us a room at another hotel through the Active Hotels guarantee system

Food was brilliant, service not always with a smile though..... check in ok although reception was not manned and took a while for someone to arrive. Check out was ok, but no smile, goodbye or did you enjoy your stay - shame.

I would stay again but would want a better shower and a tuned in tv. And hopefully i can get the internet to work. Otherwise it was a nice hotel.
(108062194)

Lovely Staff. Great menu Very spacious Room

Tv was not tuned in correctly so the colour was yellow and it couldnt be changed as it was set in a forign language. The food was lovely however, far too many flavours for 1 dish. over complicated a simple dish. The hose on the shower was faulty so a nightmare to use. More water came out of the hose than the shower. Couldnt get my laptop to work. limited conectivity. worked perfectly fine down the road tho.
Michael from Higham Ferrers, GB (Solo business traveller) 15 June 2008

(97470181)

Clean, quiet and reasonably priced

7.30 breakfast a little late for guests using hotel when on business
Simon from Maple Cross, GB (Young couple) 03 June 2008
A very good hotel representing excellent value for money, everything went very very smoothly from start to finish, and nothing was too much trouble for all of the staff that we met. I would stay again without question.
(97662925)

Friendly staff, big well appointed room in a modern decor, the breakfast was excellent.

Not really a bad point for such a good hotel, although it's presentation was overall very very good, it did appear a little "scuffed" in the common areas.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 29 May 2008

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, the staff were friendly, efficient, and the food (dinner and breakfast next morning) was good. For the price I would say that The Carlton Manor Hotel is excellent value for money.
(97531319)

The room was a good size and standard. Internet access availability was an advantge.

The was nowhere in the room to work, had to use my laptop from the bed.
Katrina from Harrow, GB (Young couple) 12 March 2008
The Carlton Manor is an absolute treat. From the minute we arrived it was a treat. Pre dinner drinks in the bar with beautiful surroundings, comfortable and relaxed. The real treat was the outstanding home cooked freshly prepared food. Sea bass was excellent. Breakfast was the main highlight, the staff took all care to ensure everything is just a cut above. We will definately go back, even if its just to eat!!! 10/10
(97522409)

The room was clean and very well appointed. Of a much higher standard than we are usually able to afford.

Nothing.

This hotel is a real find. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food is excellent. Extremely good value for money. I will definitely return.

Very comfortable well furnished family room.
Eleanor from Middlesex, GB (Young couple) 12 December 2007
The hotel was more than I ever expected from a last minute decision and booking over the internet and the staff were all impeccable I cannot say more than that. The only thing I would have liked to see were more pictures of the accomodation but the suprose was very welcome when we arrived, thank you.
(97117416)

The accomodation was fantastic, the web site pictures did not really do the hotel justice. It was beatuiful and the staff were lovely. I would definately recommmend this hotel.

There was nothing I was paticularly unhappy with except the shower as the temperature could not be reduced, therefore, it could not be used but the bath was lovely and very welcome
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 10 December 2007
I enjoyed my overnight stay. I had a good nights rest after a long drive - too many (more expensive) hotels are noisy or too hot, whereas but my room at the Carlton was quiet and cool. I would definitely stay there again if I return to the area for business.
(97631165)

The bed was comfortable, the room was cool, and there was no noise - I wanted a good nights sleep and got it! The breakfast was also very nice. All for a very competitive price.

Godfrey from Milford-on-Sea, GB (Mature couple) 05 October 2007
There is not a lot of choice for hotels in the area. The owners have tried to make this hotel comfortable but it seems they ran out of energy and stopped with the littlke extras which would have made our stay first class.
(97825089)

location, staff and food.

no hanging or storage facilities in bathroom,no place for towels etc window sash broken so window would not stay open without wedge. central heating left on, too hot, toilet seat would not stay in upright position.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 30 July 2007
It started badly with us being offered a room that had not been properly prepared. We were quite disapointed in view of your mark at 9/10. However it was clean, the food was good and adequate and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were happier when we left.
The telvision in our room was quite small and we didn't find a telvision lounge apart from the bar
(97655615)

We were given a family room because we complained of lack of drawers and privacy. It was very adequate but still lacked privacy

No net curtains so overlooked even though our view was of the back of the kitchen.
John from Northampton, GB (Mature couple) 30 June 2007
Good value hotel with a pleasant bar which has large comfy chairs. Decor was well thought out. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
(99613337)

Accommodation was very tastefully done. The room was large and the bathroom huge

Pity the view was of a caravan site (static, so not so bad.
John from North Shields, GB (Solo business traveller) 26 June 2007
Really good. Will stay again if price remains good as too far from town and you must take cost of a taxi (14.00) into account.
(99952147)

Good location. Nice hotel.

Complicated TV. Business people want no hassle getting something to work. There is a digi box etc and you have to work things exactly right to get the TV on.

We found the hotel very clean, staff friendly & there was everything needed in our rooms.
Breakfast was also very good & plentiful, although it would have been nice to have been shown a menu, rather than just told what was on offer.
The directions given to the hotel were also very informative.

Clean room; plenty of parking spaces.

The room's decor did not live up to its price; the constant music over the PA during meals; big screen Sky Sports blaring out of the bar.

This is a hotel with a relaxing and informal atmosphere, with a bit of personality about it. Good local ales in the large bar and a very good value meal in the restaurant for dinner. After a peaceful night we took our time over breakfast and relaxed with coffee whilst reading the papers on sofas in the lounge. The staff are very friendly. I would say this hotel represents good value for money and I'm glad we stayed there.

We found that hotel and staff were freindly and welcoming. Our bedroom was lovely and comfortable with everything that we needed to hand.
The evening meal we had was lovely and tasty and you could tell it was made in the hotel kitchen with fresh ingredients, dinner & sweet top marks, breakfast was great, we complimented the chef.
