Hotel was lovely and in the perfect location to the old town and the beach. We sisn't spend long there but it had a nice relaxing feel...I could have stayed for longer. Our room was downstairs and it was newly decorated and very clean and comfortable. (108857503)

positive comments Friendly welcome and atmosphere. Good to have tea and coffee available all day. Breakfast was really nice.
negative comments When checking out our card details were written down in a book rather than using a device. I was a bit worried about this as I was not informed how payment would be taken, if they would destroy our details afterwards, and I had to ask for a receipt. We had a twin room but there was enough room to make it into a double - they could have suggested this for us.

would prefer to book hotels in person as is more helpful. on line is impersonal and you dont know what the proprietors are like, but in this hotel we were lucky they were lovely. enjoyable stay, thanx (97795829)

positive comments it was peaceful and the garden was tranquil, the dog was great. the staff were excrllent and the breakfast was great

I would like to have known that the lawn/grassy area was down a lot of steps. We had our son and family ( 16 mo. old child) with us and I had a hard time going down the steps and harder time coming up. Therefore we didn't use the sitting area down there. (99161335)

positive comments Large bedroom, breakfasts, honor system bar
negative comments TV in room gave us only 4 stations, none were cable. Wanted to hear the news.

We wish we could have stayed longer. The location of the hotel could not be faulted. Very attractive building and grounds. The standard of the room was very good. It was clean and modern. Nice views. Nice location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave good advice about where to go to eat in the evening. The breakfast was very nice. The pace of life was very laid back. Overall the stay was very enjoyable and we would go back. Good value for money. (99548510)

positive comments Clean, attractive accommodation in a lovely location. It reminded us of an Italian villa. Nice artwork. Very friendly and helpful staff.
negative comments The only slight quibble was booking in. There was no one on reception and it took some time for someone to come.

had lovely stay, very relaxed atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, honesty bar lovely touch, rooms clean and pleasant. loved the fact that the Grange was different from the usual places to stay on the island, which appeared to cater for more elderly age groups and being in my thirties this was not were i wanted to spend my weekend, the Grange was perfect, felt young and free spirited, and the young pup called booby was a delight, would love to have rented him for the day. definetly recommend you to my friends and clients (99553249)

positive comments setting, relaxed, looked beautiful, lovely doggy, near beach, lovely hotel. different from most other hotels in i.o.w.

The hotel was in a small village, with plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. We were greeted on arrival and shown to our room, which was fantastic. The bed was huge and the room a really good size with a nice ensuite bathroom and lovely view. The hotel was quiet and very relaxing and the food was great. (99912073)

positive comments Very clean, lovely friendly atmosphere, very relaxing

GILLIAN from NUNEATON, United Kingdom;GB (Family with older children) 11 December 2006

It would have been nice to be informed before arrival that there would be no evening meals available because of the time of year and the few number of guests staying. Having said that, the staff were always helpful and obliging. Even when we rang to amend our booking at short notice. The hotel deserves every one of its 4 Stars. We will definitely return. positive comments Rooms, Location, Ambience.

The hotel is set in a nice place just out of the town centre yet in a nice quiet area and just next to the sea, our room had sea views but i wasn't too impressed with the bed because they had put two single beds together, i think this was because they wouldn't have fitted a double bed through the door, the en-suit shower and toilet was very nice, the wall could have been more soundproof but apart from that it was very nice. I found the staff very friendly and welcoming, we only ate there for breakfast which we both liked because there was a nice variety, we particularly liked the melon with strawberrys. The building has alot of charictor with a very beautiful stairwell and lounge, it also had a very nice garden aswell but every time we planed to go in there it started to rain. (99797312)

positive comments very friendly service and very nice rooms, the lounge and stairwell had alot of charictor
negative comments somtimes we could hear people talking in the next room so it didn't feel very private

The hotel, recently refurbished has a crisp modern air to it. There is a feeling of space in the dining room and lounge, and the gentle classical music helped to create the perfect location for a quiet weekend away. Finally, the proprietors made every effort to facilitate any special requests and were on hand at all times without appearing intrusive. (99057411)

positive comments The location, centre of Shanklin, the lounge and dining room being spacious and modern.

John from Oxford, United Kingdom;GB (Group of adult friends) 27 July 2006

The hotel was very impressive, with a country house feel. The old village of Shanklin is only a couple of minutes walk away with it's charming inns and the famous Chine so it's location is ideal. A lot of thought had gone into the interior decor. The staff were very helpful without being overly familiar. It is an ideal place for those wishing to escape the outside world and who would enjoy quiet meditative pursuits, which are catered for. The absence of televisions in the rooms is either a boon or drawback dependent on your point of view. It is not a venue for young people wanting to let off steam but ideal for those looking for something more intellectually stimulating or just relaxing in peace and in quiet. (3304966657)

positive comments The twin bed room was very good and had excellent facilities for my disabled friend.
negative comments I was disappointed that the bar was unmanned and the guests asked to use a tab system, although this did imply a measure of trust on the hotel's part.

Larry from Waterloo, Canada;CA (Solo leisure traveller) 15 July 2006

Shanklin is a lovely town and the Grange appears to be among the finest places to stay there. Excellent access to the countryside for endless miles of walks with breathtaking views from the hilltop above Shanklin and Ventnor. I packed a lot of rejeuvenation and relaxing into a single 24 hrs on the island, and the facilities of the Grange were a key part of it all. I would definitely come back. (3305011842)

positive comments Excellent location, beautiful building, great view from the room, wireless internet, friendly staff and a very sweet grounds dog.
negative comments As a vegetarian, I didn't feel like there were many breakfast choices. I don't eat meat, and prefer not to eat eggs, but I had some on this occassion as aside from toast and juice (and tea/coffee), there were no other options.

We will book to go back to The Grange if staying in Shanklin as the location cannot be matched. This is also a very good base for touring the island. Customer services were a bit lacking, but we quite like not being fussed around all the time. Would recommend staying here either for a week-end or for your annual holiday. (3304965314)

positive comments decor of the hotel was very good.
