(107729493)

Warm and welcoming hotel, man on reception very helpful when we checked in and offered to carry my bag upstairs for me to our room as it was heavy.

Bathroom bit dated but clean

I WOULD STAY AGAIN BUT WOULD INSIST ON A DIFFERENT ROOM
(107619040)

THE STAFF WERE EXCELLENT, VERY FRIENDLY. THE HOTEL ITSELF WAS IMPRESSIVE ALTHOUGH THE DINING ROOM WAS A LITTLE 90'S.

OUR SHOWER WA SLIKE SOMETHING FROM THE 80'S AND DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE ROOM WE STYAYED IN NEED REFURBISHING. IT WAS VERY DATED.
THE EVENING MEAL CHOICES IN THE TERRACE RESTAURANT WERE LIMITED, THERE WERE THREE CHOICES IN YOUR STARTER AND MAIN AND THE QUALITY OF THE MEAL WAS FAR FROM IMPRESSIVE. I FELT TEMPTED TO TEACH THE CHEF HOW TO BE MORE ADVENTUROUS WITH FOOD.
BREAKFAST WAS GREAT!

As previous reviewers have said, the hotel is busy with conferences so is very busy at breakfast and too long a wait for the scrambled egg! Fantastic hotel but if wanted a quick breakfast it aint going to happen. Great to have use of pool and wifi free of charge. Big room and good parking
(107403322)

Good sized room, very good booking in process, free wifi, use of pool. Breakfast was very nice

Slow check out, limited bar menu, not enough food ready at the buffet breakfast, people waiting
Prakash from Stanmore, GB (Young couple) 27 September 2008
Excellent.
(107480483)

Very friendly staff and good surroundings and excellent breakfast. As a vegetarian I especially appreciated that the veg food was kept seperate. Well done for that.

My shower didn't work properly!
Otherwise I would have scored excellent in many categories above.

The receptionist was very pleasent and helpful. Breakfast was very good. I liked that you got drinking water in the rooms.

The temperature in the room was extremly hot which made it hard to sleep. You couldnt turn down any radiators. Opening the window did not help. The water heater in the shower didnt work as you couldnt turn the temp of the water down.

The room was lovely with all appliances working & staff were excellent. The Swimming pool was warm & cosy. We had a three course meal & the food we could not fault.

We was checked into the wrong room at first & this was sorted out as soon as a complaint was made. The dinner was very good but out waitrose was somwhat scatty,

Staff are friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and well prepared

The bed was far too soft. Poor choice on menu

Clearly the hotel is primarily a conference venue so expect large groups of delegates. Accomodation in the courtyard was compact but excellent.
(97600726)

Excellent value, lovely setting.Excellent breakfast.

Limited choice of bar food. Expensive and pretty average.
John from Wigan, GB (Mature couple) 19 May 2008
The hotel is in a secluded and picturesque location with clearly no expense spared in its upkeep. We had a bar meal on arrival - very generous portions.
The staff are a credit to the Sundial Group - genuinely polite and approachable.
(97741230)

Room excellent, bar service equally so and staff were extremely helpful.

Nothing.
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 09 May 2008
Very pleasant hotel. The staff were all pleasant and very helpful too. Breakfast was lovely. but as a solo traveller in a busy room, I found it difficult to leave my table to get anything for fear of losing it before I got back!
Lovely rooms, but not in the 'luxurious' bracket, but I would reccomend hotel and would stay again.
(97014760)

Very quaint, interesting room with a lovely comfortable bed. Probably the best hotel bed ever!

Slightly lacking in little 'extras' such as tissues in the bathroom, but did have an ipod dock which is thoughtful
Grant from Bolton, GB (Solo business traveller) 05 May 2008
Generally I was happy with my stay and will probably return to the hotel again. I have stayed in several hotels all over the UK and would certainly place Highgate House amongst the best.
(97341779)

The room was furnished to a high standard and was very clean. The staff were very professional, polite and helpful. The food was good.

The room was on the small side (not enough room to pull the chair out from the desk) and a couple of the TV channels did not work. The tray charge for room service was high.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 28 April 2008
Generally a very pleasant stay. The hotel still appears to cater more for groups than lone guests. A clearly segregated dining room with set tables would help.
(97382198)

All mod cons and high standard of furnishing. Food very good quality, well cooked and good value.

Room next door still being refurbished, so very noisy during the day whilst trying to work and make calls.

Staff try and get everything right but things let them down. Breakfast was a nightmare - couldn't get any! Asked in reception why so busy and was just told must be people attending meetings eating there too! Nothing was done and I left in a very bad mood - then couldn't drive out of hotel due to the traffic coming through main gate! Nobody stopping and staff at gate not bothered about stopping traffic. Never returning.

The staff were very friendly and professional. On the morning I was leaving (bags in tow)one your Chef's held open a door to allow me through and wished me a good day. I was impressed with the facilities and the general manner of all staff. If I visit the area again, then your hotel will now be my number 1 choice.

The staff were always friendly and helpful, even out of normal service hours and all of the facilities were good.Superb views of the countryside from my room,i recommend the old house rooms if possible,a relaxing stay all round.

The only perhaps negative point was the food, although the food was good,i was only given a very limited choice of courses, either one or another, could be improved. but still a good hotel and stay
Nigel from Glentham, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 08 March 2007
The hotel was clean quiet and in an idyllic location with a view of the countryside which although not breathtaking was peaceful. The mens changing room for the swimming pool was without privacy, meaning there were no cubicles for changing-I was not happy with that. The facilities in my room were good but I would liked to have been allowed more artificial sweetners for my coffee. The sound control on my remote control was jerky. I was not asked at the time of booking if I required a ground level room, which I would have opted for, because there is no lift in this hotel.
(99919078)

the breakfast was good

no lift and not enough tv channels-eg sky sports was only available in the bar not in your room.

Overall a most enjoyable stay - friendly staff, comfortable room and excellent food. A little disappointed with the leisure facilities and the check-out time could be later (9:00 a.m. is much too early on a Sunday). However, we will definitely be back.

(99939480)

Value for money is the main thing to like, as it's much better than the TraveLodge-type hotels in the same price bracket. The 'main house' accommodation is superior to the other rooms. The gym is OK, and the food (although variable) is often good.

Reception always seems to be undermanned at peak times. Wi-Fi would be difficult at such a rambling place, but some sort of broadband connection (maybe in the bar) should be available in the 21st century.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 10 January 2007

The new flat screen TV was wonderful. White products great and handy to have face cloths. Enjoyed laps in the pool and great sauna too. Breakfast was delicious. Great service. Lovely buildings and grounds. Good restaurant not far down the road.

Toilet in ensuite bathroom could have used some fragrance.

The hotel and grounds are very beautiful and all the facilities are exceptional value for money! I will definately recommend to friends and business aquaintancies although I would mention that the way the hotel is laid out there is a lot of walking about on different levels - not ideal for someone with walking difficulties. The room I was allocated was on the 2nd floor which I found difficult to get to with luggage but once in the room it was well worth the struggle - everything was very tasteful and comfortable. Staff were very professional and I shall definately look forward to staying again on business and also for a weekend break with my husband.
(3305296488)

For a single room it was very spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated. The hotel is well maintained to a high standard throughout.

Rather a long difficult walk up all the stairs with luggage.

Great food, excellent service, good value for money but our room needed updating - this may not be the case for any of the other rooms in the hotel so please do not rely on this singular report.
(3305189212)

Extremely quirky hotel - you will either love it or hate it. The hotel is laid out in such a way that to get to the swimming pool from our room you had to go through the restaurant, which is in turn only seperated from the swimming pool by a three quarter wall - this means that if you are eating in the restaurant you can hear everything that is going on in the swimming pool. The restaurant food could not be faulted, 1st class, & the staff were extremely helpful & polite. Coming from London we found the food good value for money & extremely well presented.

Our double room was large but had a dampish smell to it & the decoration was very 70's - the bathroom was adequate but was let down by the bath & shower, again being mid 70's style & small. If more attention had been made to update the room facilities to a more modern or tasteful theme we would have found no fault with the hotel at all.
steven from cambridge, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 23 August 2006
The old part of the hotel looked great but we were in a converted bungalow in the carpark which was clean and had everything we needed but was ordinary in comparison. The reception area was also in a newer part of the hotel and did not give the best first impression. However the staff were excellent and very helpful and the food very good. I need a gluten free diet and without any forwarning was provided with gluten free bread and a desert with the main meal almost unheard of at any other hotel and very tasty!!
(3305236537)

Clean with all the facilities we needed

From the hotel details we expected period accomadation but were in a room in a bungalow.
