excellent staff

no heating in room. TV at about 8ft. (stiff neck)
Michael from Hastings, GB (Mature couple) 01 November 2008
I didn't think the price was particularly cheap and would have expected more for my money. My daughter is at University in Plymouth so will need to be using hotels quite alot over the next three years and was hopeful this would have been better as the position was perfect for the town and the university.

The breakfast on the first day was excellent as it was cooked fresh to order, but that was not the case on the second day as it was a buffet and there were no mushrooms or fried bread??

The room was very small and not at all like the pics on the internet - very disappointing. The room was extremely cold although the radiator was turned right up. We asked for extra heating and was given an electric heater, but this was inadequate. The shower attachment fell off the wall both days and the water barely came out, making it very difficult to wash your hair
Sue from St Just, GB (Mature couple) 30 October 2008
Room was small and view was dreadful.
(107267949)

The room was clean and selection of complimentaries was excellent.

Double electric socket was in use which contravenes all health and safety aspects. Breakfast was horrid with buffet style "hot lights" making food rubbery and inedible. Quite the worst breakfast we have ever experienced.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 13 October 2008
Would think twice before booking this hotel again, do not think it was value for money.
(107400564)

Was able to obtain drinks from bar untill late evening/early morning, breakfast was good and served hot.

First room (smoking) was in very poor condition with wallpaper peeling from walls and damp patches everywhere, furniture was very dated and would have obtained refund and moved hotels if another room was not made available. Second room was adequate.
Lynn from Nottinghamshire, GB (Solo business traveller) 03 October 2008
A hotel with character and history.
(107756876)

Excellent staff, clean room.

Only 4 TV channels, no channel 5. TV high up making it slightly uncomfortable to watch.
Anonymous (Young couple) 02 September 2008
For the price we paid it was good value but I think the website makes it look nicer than it really is. We didn't spend much time in the hotel so it was fine, but I wouldn't want to spend the weekend indoors.

although only staying for one night we soon felt part of the hotel guests. Location of hotel was really good. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening as we had people to meet up with , but the breakfast was very good. Staff were very accommodating and were helpful with guests who wanted to leave luggage a bit longer because of the run etc.
(97123217)

Hotel and staff helpfull welcoming and friendly. Also location was ideal for half marathon as it was very near to start/finish line. Hotel manager also enthusiastic about event which made short stay more enjoyable.

Only down pointwas condition of bedroom carpet which was rather badly stained.
Richard from Devon, GB (Young couple) 09 May 2008
Not being a native of the area, I would have greatly appreciated a map of the area on line and also being given a few nearby landmarks would have been helpful. We rang the hotel for directions and, although we were in fact only a couple of streets away, the receptionist was unable to direct us, not being local to the area herself. Otherwise, I felt the information supplied was both helpful and sufficient for our needs. The staff were very willing and cheerful and this was a real bonus as we felt able to settle into our stay immediately. I was very pleased with all aspects of our stay and intend to return to this hotel in the future. Thankyou to all of the staff for their endeavours. Much appreciated.
(97627846)

The accomodation was spacious and very pleasing to the eye, with dark wood, non mass-produced, character furniture offering ample storage and maximum comfort. Large, exotic lamps complemented the four poster bedand added to the ambience. I am pleased to say the suite was spotless and the attention to thoughtful, little details made our stay a most pleasant one. Best of all, all of the staff we encountered were delightful. They were polite and efficient and seemed genuinely desirous to help.

The water pressure on the shower unit was pathetic, rendering it unusable. As I have very long hair, I had great difficulty washing my hair. Other than this, everything was most satisactory.

This was a most pleasant stay, the staff were helpful and friendly and most professional towards their work. The room was comfortable and clean. The only downside of this hotel was the shortage of car parking spaces, but this can be, and was overcome. The food was excellent.
(97702513)

The room was very clean and adequate for our needs. All the staff were friendly and very professional in their work.

The room was rather warm, there being a problem with the radiator controls. However we were advised of this on arrival and accepted the problem.

Would have liked to know that parking was on the street, though this was not a problem in mid January it may be more of a problem during busy times.

The hotel is convenient for anyone attending a show at Plymouth Pavilions, being less than 10 minutes walk away. Close to the Hoe, there was little street noise. The bed was very comfortable, the room warm - a definite plus on a windy November night - and I slept really well. The strong winds did rattle the window frame a little, but not enough to stop you going to sleep. Having Freeview TV was another plus, and the reception staff were very friendly & helpful.
Breakfast was the only disappointent - the man who served me at breakfast wasn't impolite, but lacked the geniality of his colleagues, such as the lady who I saw serving other guests. Also, I thought the continental breakfast selection was too limited - no fruit or croissants, for example.
(97719358)

Warm, clean, comfortable room. Digital TV. Quiet location. Reception staff were very friendly. Convenient for Plymouth Pavilions.

Continental breakfast selection was limited.
Lindsey from Devon, GB (Mature couple) 14 November 2007
The main door to the hotel was opened for us on arrival so this made a great start to our overnight experience. Lovely room , good breakfast and perfect location for both the Hoe and the city centre. We had tickets for the theatre and were able to walk there in less than 5 mins.We paid

My cousin and I who were in Plymouth for a family funeral were made to feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Whilst the restaurant was excellent, we would have preferred to have been able to select one or two dishes rather than ordering the complete meal.

The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance to see all of Plymouth. The room was very clean with a modern feel. Staff were very polite and went out of their way to help us.
(99127182)

Location, friendliness of staff and cleanliness.

Room a bit small but is ok if you are only using it as a base whilst visiting Plymouth. Parking would've been a problem however, staff were willing for us to use their private car park as we were not using the car during our stay.

The room was cleaned to a high standard, although it was only being used as a temporary smokers bedroom due to major re-furbishment within the hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Even the proprietor/owner gave the personal touches by conversing with the guests.

The only thing I disliked was the fact that our room was bijou. The bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom. It was as if they had a used a single room and temporarily used it as a double. Like I said, this was due to the re-furbishment and should not reflect on the hotel itself.

The proximity to the sea front and the Hoe was not in the Hotel description and I think is a strong point. The description of the hotel includes parking, but on arrival we were told it was limited and full. We had to pay for on road parking and that evening there was none within four streets of the hotel.
The staff were lovely and made the stay. Unfortunately the other guests were drunk and loud during the night. (Stag weekend I think)

Hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment, this did not impact on our stay at all. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were attentive and helpful, arranging taxis and giving advice on places to visit etc. Hotel is close to the sea and near to local bars and clubs. Restaurant food was excellent with generous portion sizes. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to people visiting Plymouth.

Excellent position 50m from the Hoe and sea view. Accessing some rooms might be difficult for less mobile guests. My second visit, and better than the previous occasion. Overall, excellent value for money. Comfort equivalent to the impersonal 4 star chains for scarcely more than the cheap B&Bs. As a single traveller, I was upgraded to a double room. I am often in Plymouth and have used a number of hotels, but shall not bother searching elsewhere in future

Good mid-range hotel in easy walking distance of the Hoe, Sea Front, and City Centre. Parking on the street outside, although free from 1800 to 1000. Bar and restaurant facilities looked perfectly good, but I used neither. The hotel was almost empty and, as a result, I had to order individual items such as yogurt and fruit juice at breakfast. Pretty good value when compared to the nearby 4 star chains and cheaper small hotels.
