the mattress springs were felt. it would be a good idea for staff to sleep in the rooms to give a true feel of the place.

we were really pleased with this hotel. i booked it off the reviews on the internet and didn't expect too much as it was cheaper than we usually pay. we were very pleasantly surprised. really big room that was very clean. had a nice welcome and the staff were lovely throughout. it was a bit dated but that didn't matter at all, i've stayed at boutique hotels and not had such an enjoyable stay. it pays to smile at your guests! The first point was to asy how helpful the staff are at the Beaufont Hotel...Once at the Hotel are first impression of the accommadation was it was clean and cosy...This is place i would return to in the New Year. (97789651)

Rooms where to a very high standard for the price

The hotel is in a great location very close to the sea front and within 15 min. walk to the center of Southsea (Palmerston St) and about 30 min. walk to Gunwharf. The hotel is stylish and the staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included and was plentiful. Rooms are quiet. I could not hear any of the other guests. A nice place for a getaway retreat. The rooms are beautiful, quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. Very Victorian and everything you would expect from a small boutique style hotel.

Lack of storage space to store bags. I was too early to check in and had to leave my bag in the main foyer by the check in desk. However, all outside doors are kept locked.

My mistake was in not realizing the distance from the nearest train station. But the hotel was very nice...clean, comfortable and it fit our needs just fine. A good value. Very helpful staff. (97010899)

Both chairs in the bedroom were broken - the the Thompson Local guide was a godsend as it enabled me to prop one of them up; poorly functioning shower (weak flow and hard to adjust); bedroom had an unpleasant, unwashed smell. There was no room service available, despite a sign in the room indicating it.

Electric shower not very good not enough pressure

I only stayed one night, I would not go back again. The TV did not work adequately despite two visits from staff. The breakfast service was very poor (although the food was not too bad). Tables were not cleared and re-set you had to ask for everything you wanted. One person to serve and clear in this area was totally inadequate.
