positive comments Air con worked
negative comments Reception had been relocated to a small, busy kiosk. No lights in courtyard. They forgot my wake up call, no bill pushed under door as promised.

positive comments Very good. Lovely rooms, check out was a bit slow.

The staff, hotel, food and location were fabulous. We both managed to bang our knees on the wood surround of the bed trying to navigate the foot of the bed and the tv on the wall. The bed was also exceptionally hard and the pillows set into stone. (3304892587)

positive comments Beautifully decorated, clean, and fresh
negative comments The gap between the bed and the wall at the foot of the bed is too small in room 18. The bed is way too hard and likewise the pillows.

The hotel was very impressive and we would repeat our stay. The hotel had charm and atmosphere and everyone was very friendly and helpful. (3304558617)

positive comments The personal touch and unusual floor plans.

I would have like to have seen a picture of the bedrooms in their true state. I would have liked to know that there was no bath, only a small shower cubicle. This information should be available on your website. (2549413)

positive comments Stoke Place is a very peaceful place. Unfortunately the quality of the room was very poor. It lacked light and was full of cobwebs. It felt very dusty and smelt musky. The room & bathroom needs to be completely renovated but kept in line with the original features of Stoke Place.
negative comments Renovation of rooms, to keep in line with the original features of Stoke Place. But a fresh lick of paint, tiles, flooring and bedding would make all the difference to the feel of the room.

overall we enjoyed our stay...the staff , especially the reception gentleman, i think his name was Sarash? were really lovely and very welcoming... we had a drink outside in the garden in the evening which was lovely as the sun was shining... room service for supper, all very good... UNFORTUNATLEY...we were awakened at 7.40 am(not what i had planned on a sunday morning, my only lay in) i chose to do this away from home, as i wanted to relax...our bedroom, room 5 was abouve an entrance, kitchen i think, and people were banging at a door...we really were very fed up... your next question is weather we will stay again...mmmmmm i would like to think so, but what about the early morning disturbance????????? positive comments i loved being able to walk around the grounds very much...
negative comments the bistro is very dark and souless...

The two rooms we had were on the top floor and were very small. the bathroom had no window. We did not see any rooms on the two floors below but had we been aware we would probably have selected larger rooms and bathrooms even if more expensive. We appreciate that the building is old and has not been modernised so far as our rooms were concerned. For example, the wash basin had two separate taps whereas one assumes these days that there will be one mixer tap in hotels of this category. (1992209)

positive comments The view
negative comments Ensuring htat there is more than one bath towel when a room is reseved for two people. When we pointed this out the receptionist brought another bath towel but they appeared to have no smaller face/hand towels. The tidiness of the grounds could be improved upon. There was a lot of rubbish lying around in the garden.

Although we only stayed one night, our overall impression was that the hotel had been converted from an imposing building in beautiful grounds without the required capital investment to do it justice. The staff are friendly and efficient but the standard of the guest accommodation leaves much to be desired. In our experience, the rooms are small, the bathrooms barely adequate and the decor is in serious need of renovation. (2479526)

positive comments The external impression of the hotel is good but hides the dated interior accommodation.
negative comments It needs substantial investment to bring the guest rooms up to a standard which justifies the price.

On the whole the stay was very pleasant and the staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel is about to have a very much needed makeover and it will be the most fabulous place to stay once this has been done. There is very great potential which is transparently obvious and one little thing that might be interesting is to make some more detail of the history of this fabulious old mansion. (2425509)

positive comments Wonderful setting. Very peacefull Fantastically comfortable bed and wonderful sheets
negative comments The hotel is is desparate need of a make over many of the facilities looked tired and out of date

This hotel is set in lovely grounds, with ample parking and in a lovely area of the County. There is a beautiful green and lake (with swans and ducks!) which you are able to walk round and is kept in great order. The hotel itself looks very grand but it is worth checking whether your room is near one of the firedoors as our room - room 20 - was right next to one and kept banging all night as other residents quite simply went through it. The hotel room was on the whole fairly neat and tidy and all the communal areas were well kept. Bottled water was provided as the water in the rooms was not drinking water and tea and coffee facilities were good. Breakfast was delicious, the staff helpful and the selection more than adequate with plenty available. (2375929)

positive comments The grounds of the hotel were wonderful and we really enjoyed the walk around the lake - especially since it was such a lovely day. The staff were very very helpful and our breakfast was top notch.
negative comments The cleanliness of the public areas was good but the bathroom had some areas that could have been improved on and cleaned better. Also some of the decorative order could have been better. Unfortunately the room we stayed in had a firedoor outside it and the banging kept us awake everytime anyone walked through it. Not sure how this can be improved upon

The hotel was very shabby, not particularly clean and needed refurbishing in all areas. We checked in around 2.0p.m. to find we had been allocated a single room, other rooms we were shown had not been made up eventually found one for us. The hotel receptionist who was on duty at the time was most apologetic and did all she could to accomodate us. However, we would not recommend staying at Stoke Place and would certainly not stay again. Shame as it is basically a lovely old mansion in lovely grounds. (1722227)

The hotel was being refurbished, and my room was not up to the standard of hotels I usually stay in. However, it was available at the last minute. The main area in front was full of puddles, including a large one at the entry door. As it was dark, and no lights were on, it was easy to miss the entrance. (Maybe the timer wasn't reset after the end of summertime?) Staff made up for any deficiencies in the accommodation. Alway helpful and available. (1671891)

positive comments Friendly, helpful staff.
negative comments Room was v.hot due to heating pipe all round the skirting. Holes in wall in bathroom.

negative comments Creaky floorboards, 1 dirty hand-towell, lack of 'welcome'/local events literature, had to ring bell at night
