As a place to sleep it was great. It was comfortable and secure and the staff were delightful. If I could be gauranteed smoke free rooms I would return and bring the rest of the family with me. Also very close to ameneties but not really in easy walking distance of the station!

Lovely staff on Reception (the lady who booked us in was a star). Polite charming staff. Very pleasant man doing the breakfasts. All were exceedingly nice to my five yeard old. The room was very, very clean and when there was a problem the female cleaner in particular was really lovely and sorted things without any delay.

Having a mixture of non smoking and smoking rooms on the same floor is a bad idea. In this day and age non smokers feel strongly about being in a smoke free environment. We spent three nights there in a non smoking room however on the last night cigarette smoke came in under the door giving us a sleepless night. (We were too tired to move rooms- we'd already moved once because of faulty lighting). The hotel meal that we had on our first night was of very poor quality and the television channels were very limited.

I booked one double room for my wife and I and one twin for my sons, the double room was small and dim compared to the twin room which was half as big again and really bright and airy due to the large window. The boys loved it,the decor is a little and cold and dark in appearance. We did have a leaking kettle which I reported to reception also some of the pipes had gurgling fits. I was a little put out to see only 2 milks for tea making and promptly asked a staff member If he could help amend the shortage this he did in style, car parking is limited and very tight to access. Overall this was a very pleasent stay. There were small niggles as listed but I would have no hesitation in booking this hotel again as its now under new management.

Overall it was adequate for a one night stay.

It was fairly clean if basic.

The room was very small it smelt, and there was no view, the windows had frosted glass to disguise the ventelation system etc.

Good location. Close to the main attractions. Free car park. Clean room.

Ordered a bottle of white wine, all of them were warm. Bread rolls at breakfast were so hard they cut the mrs gums open.

The hotel was very clean with lovely comfortable beds. Extra pillows were already in the room without having to ask for them. The staff were very helpful and it was well worth the money. I would stop here again.

We feel that the hotel maintence is not up to standard, especially in the bedrooms, and more attention should be given to detail, The continentalbreakfast was a lot less than we get here in Holland. The rooms where clean, and the staff where friendly and helpful.
(99729727)

the room was big and roomy. The bathroom was good.
One morning no water!!!

the curtains hang badly and not able to close properly. The breakfast was very poor for the money it cost.
Pam from Sunningdale, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 19 November 2006
As a non-smoker I wanted a non-smoking room. When the first room proved very noisy (music from a space let for dancing lessons) I was up and down stairs trying out 3 others. None of the curtains worked and 1 was smoking room. Coffee came from inadequate machine - not worth having. Staff pleasant but utterly ignorant re wines when I went to the bar. Also pecular smell in corridors.

In the first room size was fine, bathroom too. Clean.

Noisy. Curtains did not work.

The fire alarm went off during the evening and no-one on the staff took any notice. We had to go downstairs to find out if it was a serious problem. No-one on the staff bothered to come up to check.

It was perfectly adequate for a nights stay, comfortable and warm.

The curtains in the room were falling off the rail.
Peter James from Weymouth, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 20 October 2006
The hotel is very pleasant and good value for money. Whilst there are some minor shortcomings, in general, these did not make our stay unpleasant in anyway. The hotel had a high standard of cleanliness with clean towels daily and well made up beds.

david from CREWE, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 12 August 2006
The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was of a good size but the toilet was very close to the sink. Having no hot water for one day out of our two day stay was disappointing. Especially when we were not informed of a problem by the reception when we checked in. We were also told it would be fixed in 20 mins which was not the case because there was no hot water until the following afternoon. The continental breakfast was ok.
(3305030301)

The room was spacious and the bed comfortable.

There was no hot water from when we got there to about 3 o clock the following day.

Clean and adequate for our weekend break. An ideal location for visiting Frinton and WAlton too.

Noisy male guest in the early hours of the morning. A drawback of Sat. nights!

I have used days in before with no problem but this hotel was the poorest and i will think hard before using this chain again.
(3305056175)

The location of the hotel is good with secure parking, and the newly renovated bar area looks very nice.

The room was untidy, we had the extract for the kitchen outside our window so the smell was strong. We stayed for 3 nights and we had to request clean towels. The room was not cleaned or the bed made up during our stay.

we found the breakfast staff desturbingly watching our every move to such an extend that we were put off our food,(no one can eat when someone's stearing the food out your mouth) secondly we were there for a 3 day stay only provided with enough coffie, sugar and milk to have one cup each, with no house keeping we asked at reception for some more koffee ect and were imbaressed by the rude male member of staff by implying how dare we ask for more? after all 1 cup of coffee in a 3 day stay personally think is a bit tight. the most unwelcoming place away from home we ever had to stay in.

I stay in many hotels for both business and leisure and this was one of the worst welcomes I have ever received. The receptionist informed us the room we had booked had electrical problems and they could not offer us another room of the same standard. There was no apology just a stark relaying of the facts. As they could not offer us another room of the same standard, we choose to stay in the room and allow the electrical work to be fixed. This was OK and did not inconvenience us at all. We did not have a remote control for the television and there was no plug for the bath. The receptionist found a remote control within 15 minuets but we waited four hours for a plug for the bath. Upon departure they offered us a discount so I recognise they tried to make amends.

The location on the seafront in Clacton is good and the parking facilities are good. I think the room was overpriced for the level of luxury and facilities provided.

The welcome upon arrival needs to improve. The carpet in the reception area is wrinkled and stretched and may cause someone to trip. There was rubbish and roof tiles on our balcony (room 105). There were four wall tiles cracked in the bathroom and the area at the back of the sink and toilet at floor level was very dirty and it had broken tiles and exposed pipe work. The breakfast/dining area could be larger for the number of rooms they have.
