Like staying with friends in a lovely country house. Log fire and tea on arrival plus excellent breakfast. Bed and room were very comfortable and there were nice touches such as fresh milk and water in fridge. The Moat House is also a good centre for exploring Romney Marsh. The pub 10 minutes drive away, The Woolpack, which was recommended by the owner for an evening meal, was very good value. (97229544)

positive comments Warm, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings

positive comments Full of character, excellent quality, lots of attention to detail and very friendly owners.
negative comments Very little - perhaps a bit remote from local pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was around a single shared table rather than individual tables.

There is nothing to dislike about a stay at the Old Moat House, as previously stated, nice venue, and extremely clean, rooms very nicely decorated. (99875886)

positive comments Surroundings lovely, room and en suite extremely clean with many extra luxury items
negative comments If we have to be a bit picky, lack of choice on breakfast menu

Everything one needs for a short break or holiday has been thought of and provided. The attention to detail is superb and leaves the corporate hotels way behind. This is a must for us for future stays..... (3304756572)

The whole experience was lovely The offer of dinner the night we arrived was declined because of my partner not liking fish, but was a lovely gesture. They soon recomended a vey good pub for supper. We got the feeling that we could have stayed around the house and gardens all day should we have chosen to. There was no rush or pressure to get away after an excellent breakfast. (3304813845)

The Olde Moat Hotel is best suited for people who like to stay in informal surroundings, who require the personal touch ( the proprietor joined us for breakfast and recommended local places of interest) rather than staying in the usual bland chain hotels. The roaring open log fire was very welcoming, but an offer of a drink upon our arrival would have been just as welcome! (3304362045)

positive comments We liked being in a hotel with character, the rooms were individually furnished and decorated to a high standard.
negative comments The hotel could do with having a sign outside, it is difficult to find at night.

The owners are friendly and informative. Standard of accommodation is excellent. Rooms are very clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished to a high standard. Fresh milk and homemade biscuits are provided as part of the tea/coffee making facilities - none of those awful long-life cartons. Food is very good with homemade bread, rolls and jams served at breakfast. Setting is lovely and very peaceful. Overall a great place for a restful break - we will certainly return. (2771637)

positive comments Standard of cleanliness and quality of bedroom and bathroom fixtures and fittings.
negative comments No obvious areas of improvement to comment on.

I liked the way the home was decorated. As an American it was exactly the way I had pictured a British B&B. I think for people from other countries that makes it very appealing. (2500163)

positive comments It was one of the loveliest B&B's we have ever stayed at. We found the accomodations very comfortable and the owners very hospitable.
negative comments It would be nice if they offered ice. Americans love their ice.

We travelled to Romney Marsh in order to visit old haunts (one partner lived in Old Romney from 1936 to 1945). The hosts were very helpful and suggested a few contacts (eg a shepherd in the local pub who proved to very informative). The Moat House proved to be an ideal spot from which to explore the area. I cannot fault any aspect of our stay and very much look forward to returning next year - for more than 3 days this time. (2470950)

positive comments Idyllic setting, superb accommodation, first rate breakfasts (especially home made bread) convivial other guests and hosts.
negative comments It would be helpful if there was a more detailed list of nearby places for dining. (This is a suggestion not a criticism)

A good location for a short stay in this area, friendly hosts. Good restaurants a short drive away. All amenities provided - a fridge in the room with bottled water and milk for tea was a bonus. Bathrobes and biscuits provided a luxury touch. The only hotel room I've ever stayed in that had two television sets (we had the suite) (2449191)

positive comments picture postcard beamed house. Quiet with beautiful garden. Very comfortable suite.
negative comments Breakfast - fruit, cereal, homemade bread all excellent. However the cooked part of the breakfast was served without any choice.

I would highly recommend this accommodation, the setting was wonderful, the owners made us feel very comfortable and we felt more like we were staying in a family home rather than a bed and breakfast. The room was cosy and inviting and breakfast was lovely. A thoroughly enjoyable visit! (1550181)

positive comments The accommodation was wonderful and very relaxing and friendly
