The place was not cheap, so we expected a clean room at the very least. It was the beginning of December, so we thought they may have checked things like the radiators and towel rail would be switched on. The radiator did not emit a lot of heat, even when we did turn it on. These drawbacks were a real shame, because the place could be really good if they got a few simple things right. The staff though (particularly the barman/receptionish/waiter) were excellent. The location is great and the food was very good. But I don't think we'd be tempted to stay there again (though we might visit the bar and restaurant).

The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was very good. Nice location in a small village, next to a castle (Clearwell Castle).

The room was cold, for the first day/night the heated towel rail did not work (until we mentioned it to a member of staff). The cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired (dusty, bed cover rather grubby, etc.)

Really nice area, good experience and a lovely breakfast at the end of it all! A great break.
(107679605)

Lovely room (four poster bed - very comfortable) - nice area, great food, good service, wonderful atmosphere in the bar with a lovely log fire!

Was a bit pricey and there's only really one guy on staff during the day so the desk wasn't manned but we were never left waiting more than a minute or two!

Over priced for the standard of accommodation. Very helpful and friendly staff.
(107860036)

Room was spacious and the staff were very friendly

The room had not been thoroughly cleaned - there was a significant amount of dust in the light fittings, on the extractor fan, the shower rail and the radiator - this had obviously buitlt up over a long period of time. There was also a dead spider and old cobweb hanging just by our table in the breakfast room.

It was comfortable, the breakfast was freshly cooked and filling. The evening menu offered a good variety of local produce which is good to see and the meals we had were delicious

Parking was good and the restaurant/bar area had lots of character. Room was spacious and comfortable Ensuite facilities were ok

Decor was a little tired in the bedroom.

Breakfast was superb - especially the bacon, which was juicy and thicker than a cheap pub gammon steak. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has lots of period features and interesting nooks and crannies, set in an incredibly peaceful village location in the Forest of Dean.

My only criticism, and it had no effect on my enjoyment of the stay, was that perhaps the room I had was a little dated in its decor, though not tired. I was very happy, though perhaps others may be less easy to please.

The room had two single beds but they were totally differnet so there was no option to put together.
THere human waste on the wall next to the toilet.
The towels were not clean and i suspect the room had not been made up.

I have stayed here before (about 4 months before this visit) during the week on business. The room was very good, the food very good and the breakfast exqusite.
I therefore recommended to my wife that we should return as a couple. Unfortunately the cost for the Saturday night and the overall experience did not match my first visit.
The food was very good but a little overpriced and the breakfast good but not as good. Shame, but I'll probably come again on business.
(97520567)

Good location and good food.

Accommodation was fair but there was a layer of dust on the canopy of our four poster. There was an unhealthy smell downstairs in the bar area. We were unable to get a sandwich on the Saturday afternoon.

Martin W from Matlock, GB (Solo business traveller) 09 March 2008
Hotel was customer friendly, cosy homely feel in the bar and restaurant areas, although short of staff did not enable a speedy service to be offered.
The room was clean tidy and had a friendly feel, although the television was big and old and took up too much surface space.
My only criticism wold be that the plumbing, especially the shower could have been better. The water was only just warm, and the shower head and hose came away from the wall during my shower.
Overall though a very pleasant stay.

The location was fabulous we were attending a wedding at the Castle and we were literally stumbling distance from the venue, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were a good size, clean and tidy, however the bathroom felt a litlle dated and dim. Breakfast was nice but we would have liked a bit more variety, overall we had a good stay and would return again.

interesting building.Comfortable well appointed room. Good Food

Room had not been serviced when we arrived and was then hastily prepared by a quick change of bed linen and towels. No other cleaning 'between lets' took place which made me feel uncomfortable about hygiene standards. Significant damp problem in the room stemming from external brickwork in need of repointing.

The Wyndham Arms is in a beautiful village surrounded by magnificent countryside. The staff are pleasant if lacking a certain charm. My room ,in the annex was comfortable but total lacking in character - such a pity as the main hotel appeared on first impression to be distinctive with an abundance of charm.I was slightly disappointed as my single bed felt cramped in a large room with a large king size bed which I was requested not to sleep in.

Quiet & peaceful location with 'olde worlde' atmosphere.Spacious and airy rooms with a very comfortable bed.We did not take dinner in the restaurant but looking in after breakfast we decided that on a future visit that a meal in these delightful surroundings would be very pleasing.
Very good English breakfasts. Marmalade on individual tables would be useful!. Sugar should have been in packets and not exposed to the elements.

Overall the hotel was adequate for a one night stay. The hotel is situated in a beautiful village and looks quaint from the outside.

The TV remote control did not work, the curtains fell down and the bed linen did not fit the bed so we ended up sleeping on the mattress! When we arrived there was no-one to check us in at reception (we waited at least 5 mins) and finally had to go and find a bar waiter ourselves to ask them if they could check us in.

Angela from Ewhurst, United Kingdom;GB (Family with young children) 24 August 2005
We enjoyed our stay very much but moved to another bar/restaurant in the village each evening for our drinks and meals. The main reason was because it was difficult to get served in the bar. Often the bar was unattended for long periods of time although there were people waiting to be served. Also, there are no grounds or garden at this hotel, it faces right onto the road, so this was a slight disadvantage as we had children with us. However, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, breakfast was excellent, the staff were pleasant and the village was quaint and a great jumping off spot for the Forest of Dean.
