Very friendly staff, lovely food in the restaurant and great views from both the restaurant and the room.

Nothing major. Room was quite hot.

Good - wonderful location and all staff were very friendly and helpful
(107195273)

Beautiful views over river/steam railway. Customer Service was excellent

Underfloor pipes made room really hot - opening doors onto balcony not possible as river outside very high and noisy. Bathroom little bit outdated/decor tired
Anonymous (Mature couple) 11 September 2008
Brilliant value for the one off price that we paid.
(107149414)

Excellent breakfast. Fantastic view from balcony rooms. Dining room very nice with lots of character.

Could be updated decorating wise in hallways. Freshened up in bar area

We were able to use the facilities of the sister hotel which was only a couple of minutes, by car, down the road. Enjoyed a delicious evening meal in the restaurant.

Hotel was tired looking and in desperate need of a refurb.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 26 August 2008
Generally good just a couple of little issues.
(107186382)

Friendly staff. good size room

No wall mounted shower, a couple of general maintenence issues and expensive fixed price menu in the restaurant. Hotel too hot
Anonymous (Mature couple) 16 August 2008
Stayed for 2 nights. Good deal, food excellent and staff very helpful. The setting is spectacular but the hotel room was a little jaded, which was a shame.
(107246550)

Spectacular views. Excellent food.
Stephen John from Staffs, GB (Mature couple) 03 August 2008
Lovely location, clean hotel, pleasant staff, just needs a little more tlc in some areas, would not like to stay in this hotel with young children as the canal is not fenced off as you walk out of hotel and along to car park a very worrying thing to think about.
(107129295)

Location was excellent, food was very good, staff very helpful and pleasant

Rooms were not very big, bathroom was very dim (stronger lightbulbs may help)stairs, hall and landing was very dowdy, carpet and wallpaper clashed terribly and the hall with access to the bedrooms was very stuffy and hot needs some air going in to it, sattelite TV was advertised but consisted of ITV 2 and 3, BBC3 and 4 and one film channel(does not constitute satellite TV in my opinion)balcony was an added bonus but the paintwork on it was very bad, would have been nice to have a table on there to go with the bench.

Would definitely come and stay again! The River Dee passes one side and the canal on the other - very beautiful location. Really helpful and friendly staff at Reception, bar and restaurant and not too over-bearing. Beautiful walks around the hotel - to the horseshoe falls one way and towards Llangollen along the towpath the other. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable too. Delighted with the overall stay. Would recommend to everyone!
(108049071)

Very friendly and helpful staff; large double room with two bathrooms - shower over bath and basin in one and loo and basin in other; total privacy as room was not in main part of hotel; excellent breakfasts and evening meal superbly delicious. Very quiet and peaceful, relaxing stay.

Hot water was not hot enough to shower. Other guests passing by bedroom window as it was on ground floor. On the Saturday night, a wedding was going on all day at the Hotel and the guests were passing by the bedroom being very noisy! Only other downside was lack of parking spaces for staying guests.
bridgette from twickenham, GB (Mature couple) 21 July 2008
A fantastic night / we will be back
(108054658)

we were pleasntly surprised to get a suite rather than just a bedroom. Plus the balcony overlooking the rushing waters of the River Dee was a bonus and justified all the recent rain we have had. Dinner was excellent although maybe my rump of lamb could have been pinker. But this is a minor gripe. Fantastic value for money and an unrivalled location. Comfortable bed, good linen. The approach to the parking was a little confusing but added to the experience and magic of the place. Only criticism is of the wallpaper and carpet in the stairwells and corridors which is rather dated but do not be put off by this!

Clash of wallpaper and carpet in stairs.

Beautiful location. Lovely balcony overlooking the river. Friendly bar staff

Hotel rather old fashioned. Particularly the corridors
Anonymous (Mature couple) 07 July 2008
Apert from the doors not staying shut and the bed being a bit on the soft side our stay was well worth the money and the food was top quality.
(108091653)

friendlyness of staff, and the peacfull location of the hotel

Internal room doors need some attention-bathroom door did not shut easily door into passage would not stay shut

We loved the riverside bedroom and restaurant. We could see how much work had been done to repair and that it would be good when it was finished. The bucket in the bar was a hoot! We have all been there!
We would definitely stay there again.
(97761360)

The sound of the river and the view over the river.

We felt that if we stayed more than one night, we would prefer a larger bedroom.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Loved its position on the river and took a lovely walk into the town along the canal which runs alongside the hotel on one side.
Food was superb, staff were lovely. We were bowled over by the view from our balcony, looking over the river.
Would recommend that the rooms are modernised. Other than that we loved staying at the hotel.
(97607188)

Loved the location. Superb views if you get a room on the river side. Food was excellent and staff very helpful and friendly.

Very dated decor. It was clean enough but in serious need of a refurb. It stated in our welcome folder that the hotel had nearly completed its refurb but I'm not sure what they consider a refurb to be. Our bathroom was in desperate need of updating, re-tiling, re-grouting etc.

The Hotel was recommended by friends. The location was a little difficult to find but that was mainly our own fault as we didn't 'download' the map!! This was a one night stopover for us after visiting an elderly relation in a Care Home. We were pleasantly surprised by the room and having decided to stay for evening meal were also, once again, extremely pleased that we did. The meal was first class!! The service was excellent and we certainly intend to stay here in the future...only for 3 or 4 nights!!

Once we found the hotel,(Directions could be better) very welcoming receptionist. We had what was obviously the family room with the additional attached room and beds. Location is excellant, staff all helpful (Dont locals want to work there?)bar pleasant and reasonable .Food was good but a bit too 'arty'.Portions ample.Fresh vegetables.Breakfast good and ample. We had a reduced cost room but I don't think I would pay top prices. The hotel does need some freshening of decorations.

We loved the location of the hotel set between the LLangollen canal and the river which was in full flood due to the time of year. The hotel itself has a comfortable easy going feel to it and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The bar is quite large where you can relax in comfy leather settees whilst admiring the magnificent view. We dined both nights of out stay in the restaurant where you can eat fantastic food at a reasonable price and again the view added to the ambiance.

Our room was very comfortable and cosy and warm, which was great as it was February. The restaurant and bar food was exceptional.

Not a lot to dislike really.

We arrived late and were amazed when we opened the doors to our rooms! The twinkling lights of the bridge, the balcony and rushing water right outside were magical. Food and drinks were served hot and service was excellent! Well done!

Decor was a bit tired and bedding had seen better days, but the service and location more than made up for these.
