nice old hotel

our room was above the bar which was extremely noisy
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 05 June 2007
In general a comfortable hotel that suited my needs.
(99796484)

The room was very comfortable and the food was excellent

The hotel could do with refitting the bar area once the smoking ban comes into force. Strong smell of stale cigarettes
Barrington from Fareham, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 05 May 2007
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel, the town was nice, as was the surrounding country side and villages.

Only positive comment i have is the excellent resteraunt and the likewise service - 10 out of 10.

1)No broadband, only very slow dial up!
2) i asked for an early morning call at 5:30 0 it never happened
3) when leaving on the Tuesday morning i had to see myself out by unlocking the 2 front doors - there was no one in reception - where was the night porter?
3) no hot water in the morning!
Findlay from Dover, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 24 February 2007
Not happy with the lack of knowledge from the front line staff.
1) They were unable to pass external calls into my room.
2) The bed - how old was the blanket, did not llok clean and how old or clean was the bedspread? Why dont they use quilts?
3) Requested a wake up call at 5:30am - this never happened!
4) Only good point was the restaurant - excellent food and service
(99530324)

Accomodation okay, unable to access website other than the hotels dial up service. Where is the broadband!

Bedspread and under blanket looked way beyond its sell by. It looked worn and over washed. No hot water inthe morning! Unable to wash due to cold water coming from the hot tap!
Robert from London, United Kingdom;GB (Same sex couple) 31 August 2006
Our bathroom window overlooked the courtyard yet it was clear glass; the room was right next to a fire door in the corridor which caused some noise as it banged. Service at breakfast was rather surly and I felt that there were not enough staff on to cope with the customers; despite being a Sunday the information from the hotel said that breakfast finished at 9.30am which is too early.

Location; stylish decor in the public rooms; hotel was not too large

Room was rather small and poorly planned;

Quiet, clean and comfortable.

Restaurant service somewhat slow. Parts of hotel need refurbishing.
Howard from Hollywater, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 28 June 2006
Enjoyed my stay very much, but wish that I had spotted that the hotel restaurant was nouvelle cuisine before inviting my project team of 6 to a (very expensive) dinner at the hotel - a menu of more substantial fare would have been more appropriate.

Decor and appointments of Suite

Situated above noisy bar area
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 21 June 2006
Twenty some years ago when my husband and I stayed there we liked the town itself, but just like so many other Cotswold towns, Moreton-in-Marsh has become way too busy with people, traffic, and rather tacky tourist stores. I should have been prepared for this.
(3304493720)

Well decorated.

The small size of the room, and its being right on the street side.

It would have been advantageous to have a business suite available with internet, fax etc. Although, the reception staff did assist when requested with taking copies of documentation etc. I would have liked to be able to work within my room also and a wireless network would have been very beneficial to me. My overall experience with the hotel was very good. It was comfortable, clean, relaxing and an excellent location. The hotels information stated that a safe was located within the wardrobe, unfortunately, this was not available within my room.
(3304329079)

The decor was tasteful a mixture of old to suit the hotel and location with modern facilities. The complimentary drinking water within the room was a nice benefit. The location of the hotel was ideal as it was easy to find, right on the high street (although very quite) and a short 5 min drive from the Fire College which was where I was attending a conference. The food was of a high standard and a good selection available.

It was disapointing that wireless network facility was not available. The staff nos (especially within the bar area) were sometimes undermanned and at times the service was slow. The flooring within the ensuite facility was very slippery and the bathroom itself was quite small. It was adequate for one person staying but would have been tight for two adults.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 25 March 2006
The restaurant was fab, great lighting and decoration, intimate but friendly. The food was a bit different, with smallish portions (nouvelle) but with 3 courses you were left more than satisfied. Not cheap but excellent quality with some really unusual combinations of fresh, local ingredients. All the staff were professional and friendly and the barman made one of the best gin & tonics. Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom are always a good sign and the bath towels were a very generous size. We were upgraded to a 4-poster and the bed was very comfy with a generous size bathroom ensuite - everything working perfectly. The breakfast was excellent too, with a good choice of fresh fruits, yoghurts, pastries and breakfast cooked to order. It was a lovely, relaxing 2 day break and we'd have no hesitation recommending it or returning ourselves. The guests we saw were a mixture of couples (young and mature) and small groups.
(3304403102)

Public lounges were spacious & comfortable. Great lighting & decoration in the restaurant. The room and bathroom were a good size, with plenty of natural daylight. Comfy bed (4-poster) with good quality sheets.

Not much - just better signage for parking
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 26 February 2006
I enjoyed my stay the staff were helpful and the environment quite relaxing. I would have liked to know if there were any fitness facilities in the hotel or nearby.
(3304171847)

The room was very cosy and the facilities were very clean and the complimentary services were of a high standard.

I felt the dinner menu was over priced and a little restricted
Anonymous (Mature couple) 28 January 2006
That the meals provided in the restaraunt were above the norm and were not indicative of the price for the room. Having said that the food was excellent (if a bit on the pricey side) The service excellent and the whole atmosphere were very relaxing even for the single night, I would like to spend a long weekend to fully apreciate the comfort and atmosphere of the hotel (maybe oneday!)

The room was lovely and warm on arrival and they showed you to the room. Staff were very friendly and responsive. The food was excellent in the restaurant, both in the evening meal and breakfast. Excellent value for money - definitely go again!

I liked the traditional style and homeliness of the hotel. I did not feel vulnerable being on my own.

I arrived at 5pm ish and the wanted to plan my evening meal. I did not find the reception staff very forth coming on what was available. I was asked if I wanted to book a table for dinner and then realised it was a set meal at £32. I was not offered a bar meal, room service and only found out later that I could have had afternoon tea. There was no information in my room to let me know this either.
Steve from Chepstow, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 12 September 2005
Overall this was the most enjoyable stay I`ve had at any hotel. I would highly recommend it to any friends or colleagues. They have not seen the last of me. I was ,at first apprehensive at booking into a hotel blind (i.e online) but it`s the best mouseclick I`ve ever done. If only work committments hadn`t got in the way we would have stayed longer.
(2686212)

The general atmosphere of the hotel was just so easy going, but professional. The staff were excellent and joined in any humour to keep, certainly us, at our ease. While still maintaining a respect for the customer. I can`t thank them enough

The only minor and I do stress minor complaint was the standard of the English Breakfast

Rosemary from Deakin, Australia (Solo leisure traveller) 25 March 2005
The stay was comfortable and the staff helpful. The food was particularly good - even breakfast. There was also a variety of food available - eg at the bar, by the fireside and in the restaurant.(Also room service but I did not use this.)The hotel is well situated in the town - accessible to other restaurants and shops.

Fine and enjoyable experience overall in comfortable, well located hotel. Excellent and friendly staff. Saturday night dinner a little expensive and a 2 course option would have been desirable.

The hotel is very picturesque, lovely and quiet. The general surroundings are very tasteful with a gorgeous log fire. The rooms were beautiful and keen. The staff were friendly and courteous. The breakfast in bed in the morning was superb, haven't had scrambled egg like that in years!
Really couldn't find fault with anything.

Absolute superb - no complaints at all - extremely beautiful hotel.

Can't complain about anything other than the time went too quickly!
Ed from Maidenhead, United Kingdom (Young couple) 04 February 2005
We parked directly outside the hotel and were given a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. All facilities were pointed out to us and assistance was offered to carry our case to our room. The room had exposed beams and was a slightly unusual layout but this made a welcome change from the standard rooms found in many hotels. Breakfast was delicious with a full range of continental and cooked foods. We also has a bar meal at the hotel. The modern style of the bar and dining room were very different from that of the rest of the hotel. Overall, we thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel had plenty of areas to relax in, was very central to Moreton-in-Marsh and had drinks prices high enough to keep the riff-raff out!

I would have liked to have known that the hotel does not have the possibility of a non-smoking rooms. Apart from that, we had a wonderful, relaxing time in a quiet, little town that had lots of character. I will certainly be coming back for future stays.
(1647589)

style of guestroom, library for afternoon tea, Mulberry's restaurant for dinner, location of the hotel

The restaurant was excellent, if a little on the expensive side. The lounge area downstairs, garden etc. was very pleasant. However, the room itself was a little worn and could have done with a more thorough cleaning.
