As it was a one night stopover, it served its purpose but was not good value for money - which is a shame given that the quality of the food was good.
(107236629)

Staff friendly
Food was very good - both the evening meal and breakfast

The bedroom we were allocated is in need of a makeover, especially the bathroom. The room & bedclothes were clean and the bed comfortable but overall the room did not justify the £80 charge for B&B.

Excellent. No internet may be a problem for some.

Great location; historic site. Food and service outstanding. We stayed there 23 years ago and twice since then; still a memorable place. We will come back.

Later night crowd at pub was a bit noisy but we didn't have trouble sleeping. Could be a problem for some folks though.

ambience
Philippa from Norwich, Norfolk, GB (Solo business traveller) 23 May 2008
The owners have worked hard to refurbish the inn to a high standard - they were on site the whole time working alongside their staff team. The bedrooms were stylishly decorated and comfortable and the residents have their own private access so you do not need to go through the bar everytime you want to go to and from your room. There is plenty of parking just outside. This is a very old thatched building and extremely picturesque and pretty, but if you have mobility problems you may find the stairs difficult and they wind round but are not too steep. The full english breakfast is of a very high quality and is freshly cooked to order and the meals in the restaurant are also of a consistently high quality with lots of fish on the menu and reasonably priced. Location perfect for exploring the area or you can make use of the pretty gardens around the inn.
(97944923)

This is a beautiful inn where the owners are warm and welcoming. The food is top class and consistent with the breakfast being particularly good. Plenty of parking, very short distance into the town - would definately recommend.

I stay in hotels every week of the year and there is nothing to dislike about this hotel.
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 15 May 2008
It felt like I was paying hugely over the odds for sub-standard B&B because of the tradition of the place. An excellent pub and superb food but very poor accommodation.
(97741950)

Very nice village and obviously lovely old inn. Excellent food and beer - friendly bar staff. Good breakfast, spoilt by loud radio playing local station - totally inappropriate for a quiet inn morning.

Very over-priced - small room, no loo paper on arrival, TV remote didn't work, phone didn't work, no welcome information or guidance, carpet not hoovered. Very noisy pub customers directly outside window - of course it's a summer's evening and pubs are for customers but at this price I was hoping for something better.

Cosy room, friendly staff

The heating had not been put on before we arrived. Also it had been switched off during the next day so that when we came back after a rainy day it was to a cold room again!

Quaint appearance of bar area and good food especially breakfast

Rooms were dreadful. Changed room and both mattresses and pillows worn out. Good night sleep essential to hotel stay. General room decor poor- a coat of paint would have improved shower area
Matthew from Cambridge, GB (Young couple) 20 December 2007
The Cott Inn is perfect for the laid-back traveller who wants a friendly, characterful base from which to explore the gorgeous countryside. Anyone fastidious might have problems with a couple of points of cleanliness, and the business traveller - if our breakfast is anything to go by, might have issues with the relaxed approach to time that seems to accompany the relaxed atmosphere of the place. But I'd like to say a big thankyou generally to the management for a very pleasant stay.
(97824479)

The Inn itself is a beautiful thatched 14th century building, which looks the part on the inside as well. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The food is absolutely superb!

Hairs all over the bathroom floor and bedspread were a bit offputting. Breakfast ordered for 8.30 (We had a meeting in town at 10), it finally arrived at 9.20 - we were the only guests there at the time.

It's a thatched inn from 1310! It was good to stay somewhere with history, untouched by time. Breakfast was of a good quality. The staff were friendly and chatty.

The hotel part of the inn could be given some attention, though there was a certain charm to the decor(!)

Various web-sites allowed on-line booking for the Cott Inn.Because I booked two rooms separately at different times there was some confusion re price and inclusion of breakfast in the rate.
On arriving the old world charm of the Cott Inn was exactly as expected. However, although the weather was relatively mild for November, the upstairs corridors and bedrooms were cold.Heating was via storage heaters which were turned off....when turned on they were inefective.Generally the bedrooms needed attention to the state of the decor;the bathrooms too eg missing tiles, shaving lights not working etc.
On the positive side the bar and dining areas had a good atmosphere, the food was good and the staff helpful.

I was really disapointed with the accomodation. The shower was filthy, with thick dirt/mildew encrusted around the shower cubicle.
The base of the shower unit was cracked held together with sticky tape.
The window frames were thick with dirt.
I didnt want to touch the carpet with my bare feet as they did not look very clean.
There was no complimentry soap in the bathroom.
The teapot wasn't emptied when the beverage tray replenished in the morning.
The breakfast - the bacon and egg were in thick grease and the first morning for some unknown reason everything was well sprinkled with parsley.
We only stayed for the second night as I had already paid for it.

The evening meal.

Poorly presnted and displyed a lack of care in ensuring it was clean.

The pub is a very old building at the top of the village and has a nice beer garden for when the sun shines but was let down by the attitude of the management. We stayed here on business and so needed to get breakfast over with early (breakfast start time was 0800) so that we could get to work. On the first day the owners turned up to open the breakfast room at 0810 and we managed to get served at 0825, second day the chef had opened the room for 0800 but didn't come out of the kitchen until 0815, third day the ownwers turned up at 0815 and on the fourth day they turned up at 0810. Never was there a word of apology for the delay, just a muttered morning as they walked past.
(99252259)

Quaint thatched pub with not a single even floorboard in the place.
Anonymous (Young couple) 25 June 2007
Food was good & accomodation full of character as you would expect a thatched inn dating back to 14th Century to be!
Room was above the bar so if you want an early quiet night, this is not the place for you!
(99797857)

Fantastic breakfast with local produce - Cott Inn is full of character

Shower worked fine but we were a little concerned with the taped up shower tray!

Attractive hotel in quiet location; excellent food and staff.

Room decoration a little tired, but they are refurbishing the rooms. Steep, if short, staircases (unavoidable in very old building)

Overall I am happy with our stay but I would have liked to know that there was not a shower in the room. Everything was clean, the food was very good and I am sure it will make a big difference when the refurbishment is complete. The friendly staff and 'oldie woldie' feel of the Inn was very nice.
(99797831)

Quaint country pub/inn... very picturesque, friendly and the food was excellent. The breakfast was supurb.... not too fatty, fresh and piping hot. It is a very friendly Inn and the new owners are making good improvements all round.

The rooms are being refurbished but the one we stayed in has yet to be done. The carpet is stained and the bath was old and shabby. There was not a shower. The floors make a lot of creaking noises and the kitchen radio and activity could be heard below which was in the early morning.
paula from BRIDGEND, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 10 January 2007
