The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was wonderful.

There weren't really any bad points except that the shower wet the floor a bit in the bathroom, but there was a sign saying that it would!

Location good for Royal parade but 15 - 20 minutes walk to chislehurst station. Overpriced
(108073682)

Clean.

No evening food available for two out of the three nights, no prior notice given. Sky satellite TV service limited to 2 channels one of which was ITV and didn't receive a signal!
Simon from Northampton, GB (Family with young children) 19 May 2008
OK for the one night with a better welcome and check-out experience

Breakfast - Room was of a reasonable size

Reception - appeared 'phased' by situation including dog which property's web-site said were welcomed at no extra charge and this was found not to be the case! Room, although reasonably contemporary was beginning to suffer from the usual British disease of lack of maintenance and care!

I would have liked to be warned about the problem with the plumbing in the bathroom instead of finding out at 23.00. However I guess it might not be that obvious since we did not hear anything in the daytime.
Very recommended indeed however and we would definitely stay again.
We did not get to taste to food in the restaurant but the menu looked absolutely superb and we will most certainly stay again and sample this when we are in the area next!
(99563308)

Most importantly the duty manager was an absolute star! She made really all effort to make us welcome and was very efficient indeed! A service with a smile and personal touch that you can not find very often anymore. The room was excellent apart from our little problem in the night everything was brilliant.

Plumbing! The radiator in the bathroom was banging all night which limited our sleep to a couple of hours max and unfortunately marked an otherwise superb stay down.
Ian from church village, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 23 February 2007
The hotel was easy to find but as we arrived late we had to park on the roadside. On arrival the staff on duty were very pleasant and helpful sue in particular as we required an earlier than posted(time) breakfast due to an early meeting the next day and she kindly obliged. The food was good and plentiful and the surroundings were pleasant.I would recommend this hotel to a friend.
(99159913)

the room was a very good size and so were the on suite facilities.friendliness of all staff was good

the bedroom carpet needed to be cleaned or changed
Anonymous (Mature couple) 14 February 2007
The room was well appointed and clean; the bathroom was spacious but the shower was broken which meant that it cascaded over the top of the shower door and onto the floor, making it slippery and wet. There were tea & coffee making facilities but it would have been nice to have had some bottled water. It was useful to have an integral iron and trouser press.
(99887542)

The decor; comfortable bed

A smell of smoke permeating from the bar beneath the room.

This is an excuisite country style public house on the edge of the common. The facilities where excellent and the room I stayed in was stylish with the most wonderful Victorian style bath. The service and welcome was typically that of a family home, full of warmth and genuine interest. I enjoyed this hotel and the location and intend to return

This is not a dislike, but it is worthy of note the room is above a public house, i would not recommend it to someone who likes to go to bed early.

Good for overnight stay but breakfast could have been much better considering price we paid - have stayed cheaper but received much higher quality meal. No late night alcoholic drink facility for resident guests - disappointing having bar close to guests at 11.00pm especially as we held a function at the venue
(3304753842)

Modern, unfussy, functional, clean

Ready prepared breakfast with communal tea/coffee/etc, poor quality of cooked foods
Anonymous (Mature couple) 11 May 2006
We arrived late on a Sunday long after the kitchen closed and checked in at a riotously busy bar. The manager signed us in and then provided an impromptu snack that involved warm ciabatta, cheese, ham and a skilfully-dressed salad. He showed us to a table in the restaurant so we could eat in peace and served wine from an outstanding by-the-glass selection. On checkout, in pouring rain, a taxi was summoned and we were helped with luggage. This is a busy out-of-town pub as well as a comfortable hotel and the byword of the whole enterprise is simply - hospitality. I was very impressed with the Crown.
(3304447568)

More than adequate. Simple without being clinical and a supremely comfortable bed. Windows that open. Quiet and clean.

Nothing, really. If I have to find a negative it would be the garish blue flushstuff that dribbled down the loo in a bathroom that was otherwise almost luxurious.
Paul from Camberley, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 07 May 2006
Good - pleasantly surprised. But you need to sort out whatever causes the smell in the bathroom!

Simon from Harefield, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 19 February 2006
Generally, this was a good standard of room in the wrong place (ie. above a busy pub playing fairly loud music). The staff were good - at running a pub but appeared amateur as Hotel staff. I wouldn't have minded but the Room tariff was £95. The staff were pleasant enough and only offered (reluctantly) to make me a sandwich when I'd asked again. I opted for a Chinese take-out which the staff kindly allowed me to eat in the Bar. One particular lady was very charming and offered me a plate etc. If only they had been more accommodating in the first instance. At breakfast (a full English which suspiciously arrived 1 minute after I ordered it) I was met with a foreign lady vacuuming. All in all, I would spend my £100 at the 'Holiday Inn' down the road on my next visit to that area or save £50 and stayed in a Travel Inn.
(3304259985)

The room standard was very good.

Food service stopped at 9pm and no option of room service. I checked-in approx. 20:55. I asked if I could get a meal they said no.
Gillian from Congleton, United Kingdom;GB (Family with older children) 15 January 2006
The Crown Inn is situated in a very pretty part of Chislehurst. Much effort has been made to welcome guests both to the hotel and to the restaurant and bar. It has been updated without losing any charm at all. Staff are very courteous and helpful. Breakfast looked as though it coould have been good, but we only had toast and cereal (through choice as we were in a hurry). The bedrooms are spacious enough and well equipped, with modern furnishing. Bathroom was good, (nice shower) but could have been finished off to a higher standard to match the bedrooms and public areas. The wooden surface in the bathroom was beginning to show water stains, which was a shame. Overall this is good value for money.
(3304109148)

The accommodation appeared to have been recently refurbished. It was a very comfortable stay. The bedding and linen were good quality and freshly laundered. A lot of effort has been put into the overall comfort of the hotel. The bar istelf was clean, friendly and welcoming.

The noise of bottles and crates being discarded after the bar had closed disturbed our sleep. Also, the airconditioning in the bathroom takes a long time to shut off - small things, really. Not enough to spoil the overall experience.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 28 December 2005
the hotel (pub) was very nice and a good level of accomodation was available, the food was very good but on entry to the accomodation their were no clear signes for reception and I had to wander arround with my case untill somebody pointed me in the right direction to the corner of the bar were the reception book was located. A very good Pub hotel but just needs a few tweeks to make it perfect. BUT I would stay their again.
(3304045828)

Very clean and spacious room, and a clean and well presented hotel

It could provide an actual checkin desk or appropriate sign on entry, and dvd video options in the room.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 24 December 2005
My general review refers mainly to the comments above however the process of cleaning the public house, sweeping floors, clearing up cigarette ends in close proximity to the eating area was totally unacceptable for non smokers and others at the breakfast table.I should have been informed of this process at time of booking.I should also have been informed that the main bedroom wall had suffered water ingress thus leaving damaged wall paper and decorations in an unacceptable condition.
(2930608)

It was adjacent to a function we were attending in Chiselhurst and therefore convenient access.

Decoration to room Cleansiness of toilet and bath tea making facilities incomplete seperate and more discreet checking in process would have been appropriate

This hotel is in a lovely quiet location overlooking open land. It is a pub and if you like very early nights may have trouble with the music downstairs. We didn't think it a problem and it was switched off around 11pm. Room was lovely chic but with character. Raised bath on a platform and 2 sinks. Also lovely cooked breakfast. Would definitely go back.

Overall we had a good stay as the room itself was lovely and the food okay. It was a shame that the service staff let the side down as they came across as being uninterested and unfriendly. We didnt particularly mind but the room we stayed in was above the bar and it was very noisy until closing time. Not a room to stay in if you need your sleep!
(2641967)

Both the bedroom and bathroom were beautifully decorated and spacious. Well appointed.

Service was generally poor. Checking in was awkward as it wasnt clear where to check in and the waiting staff in the evening appeared uninterested. We waited a good 5 minutes when we went down to breakfast before we were even acknowledged. Also, the cleaner was hoovering right next to the eating area whilst everyone ate. Not very relaxing - surely this could have been left until people had finished eating!
Paul from Hereford, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 12 September 2005
This is a small hotel in a quiet location away from the main roads. We stayed in the deluxe room which has a super king-size bed which is very comfortable. There is a large private bathroom with a seperate bath and shower cubicle. There are twin sinks and WC also. The front of the building is floodlit during the pub opening hours, but as these are switched off at closing time it is not a problem. The landord lives on the floor above the main guest rooms and we were disturbed frequently late at night and early in the morning because his bathoom apparntly has bare floorboards. He did assure us he doesn't wear clogs! Overall we enjoyed our stay although I do feel it is a little on the pricey side.

Anonymous (Young couple) 01 September 2005
We both really enjoyed our stay, but felt the price was a little steep. When a hotel room pushes over the £100 mark, you expect something really special. And the hotel was great but not worth £110 a night we both felt. Perhaps if it was in London, but not in Chislehurst.
(2654182)

The rooms were decorated really beautifully and very modern.

Unfortunately the lights that illuminate the pub sign on the front of the building were right outside our bedroom window, and shone through the curtains. Perhaps these could be repositioned. As they did keep us awake.

On arrival it just looked like the typical country pub hidden from the main road. After sorting out the keys, we where shown the security system for entry out of hours, using key swipes. Not something you would expect from a pub? But the big surprise was to come when we finally entered our room for the night. Our room was fantastic, I would compare it to a more expensive country house and any description I could give, certainly would not do the place justice. All I can say is try it out for yourself, you wont be disappointed.

Was not expecting the sort of accommodation we found over a pub, it certainly had the wow factor

The restaurant served fantastic food, the selection was superb and very well priced. The restaurant only open 19:00 - 20:30, which I found strange.
The bedrooms where great, complimentary toiletries where an added bonus as I forgot my toothpaste!
Tea, fresh coffee and 4 different types of biscuits was also very nice.
(2548668)

The bedrooms where a very pleasent surprise. Very comfy beds and a fantastic shower! I had no remote control for my TV!

I had to leave hotel at 4am, this seemed to cause a little confussion when I requested to check out the night before, although this was a requirement of the hotel!
