Really great, we were just looking for cheap accomodation as close as possible to the centre of Reykjavik, and that's what we got.

Friendly & helpful staff, great location near the centre of town.

Very close to downtown. However a very quiet place. Easy access to main sightseeing and shopping area. Easy parking near the hotel.

The light in the bathroom was not working for 2 days. Small room. The total charge was about 25 euros more in total, but maybe it was due to booking commission over internet.

The room was clean. The hotel was open 24 hrs.

The room was cramped. The shower filled the hole bathroom with water,-that didn't dissapear. The breakfast was poor. the staff was not to serviceminded.

Location

The bathroom was awful. In need of a major revamp! The room was tiny and the noise from the elevator kept us awake all night.

I highly recommend the Metropolitan for those on a budget or even just looking for a way to save some money. The staff members are friendly, knowledgeable, capable, and helpful. They went above and beyond in answering questions about getting around town, or helping with our tour plans. A quite good breakfast is included which equates to a significant savings given Reykjavik's food prices. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are warm, and the showers hot. The tours all know where it is, so there's no getting lost. There's a good cross-representation of families, students, hikers, business people, and gay travelers. All this equates to a very good value for the budget-conscious. I would stay again.
(97552427)

Location, Location, Location... The Metropolitan is right around the corner from downtown and everything happening in Reykjavik. You can't beat that, especially at 280 ISK for a one-way bus ride.

It's not so much a dislike, but international travelers should know that the rooms are indeed small. If you have lots of luggage or prefer a large room, please do consider this.

Great location and staff very helpful and friendly

Rooms very small and sulfur smell from the bathroom when you turn the shower or taps on. Also the sheets weren't changed everyday like you would expect from a hotel. Otherwise great for the price
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 27 March 2008
This hotel was a great deal for the money. The location was great; it was only a 5 minute walk to downtown. The staff was really friendly. A nice breakfast was included as well (different cereals, different breads, meats, cheeses, cucumber, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, tea, hot chocolate). The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the size of the room. It was very small. I was travelling alone so it wasn't unbearable to stay in such a small room. If you're like me and are mainly looking for a hotel with an affordable price and a great location, and don't need all the extra bells and whistles, then I would highly recommend this place.
(97270603)

The location of this hotel was excellent. I also liked the affordable price

The room was extremely small, although it wasn't unbearable and I would stay there again.

None bedlamps
Lisa from London, GB (Group of adult friends) 25 February 2008
The beds were in a terrible state. They were extremely uncomfortable, the imprint of previous guests were left in the mattresses. The frames of the beds were so noisy that every time we moved the noise was so disturbing it woke up the whole room (triple room). My friend left with a sore neck and shoulder from the beds. In the 5 nights of our stay the room was not serviced at all apart from emptying the rubbish bin daily. THe bathroom was not touched but the shower was in need of a good dose of bleach to remove the mould from the corner. we accept that this is a budget hotel and deliberately booked it for that reason but there should be no reason why even a budget hotel should not be adequately cleaned and surely it's not too much to expect beds in which people can actually sleep.

We really enjoyed our stay in iceland, we found the cost of things very expensive but we did expect this. The hotel was VERY conveniently located and we hired a car and did lots. We had a fab time. The hotel was clean, warm and so close to the town. We would deffinately stay there again.
(97820557)

it was basic but comfortable, clean and warm. Breakfast was filling and adequate. We really liked the location of the hotel. We felt it was much better to stay in the old part of the town.

Nothing really, the room was a little small, the water smelly but that is normal in Iceland. It was great value for the money.

Well I am an Icelander living outside Reykjavik and I knew what to be expected because I used to live in this neighborhood. So no surprises for me. I generally liked my stay and the staff was helpful. Thanks.

Nice hotel at the heart of city center. Quiet and you can have a good nigth sleep. Breakfast vas fine.

Lack of parking space for those driving their own cars. There were clothes in the dravers from a another visitor and that annoyed me.

I travel a lot with work (Europe and NA) - and get to stay in countless hotels (5 star and down).
For choosing a hotel to stay in Reykjavik, I wasn't after one with its own bar, restaurant, plush fittings, five stars etc etc.
I was after one with a good location, good value for money, clean, relaxed and functional.
I chose The Metropolitan on that basis and it was definitely the right choice. Hitting every one.
For the price you pay, the location is superb, the staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are basic but clean and more than functional (you will need that fridge to keep your own alcohol and snacks cool - and do bring them with you as Iceland can be expensive!!). Breakfast was filling and place was just very relaxed. No pretence.
Noise can travel easily across the hotel - but then it can in many hotels and when you have a few people coming back from the infamous weekend partying - you kind of expect it.
If you like the trappings of a plush hotel - Metropolitan will not be for you.
If you are looking for a good place to get your head down after exploring Iceland (day and night) that will not cost you an arm and a leg then I would definitely recommend you check out this hotel.
I'd recommend this hotel to all of my friends.
(97101775)

Location, Staff, Friendly and Relaxed Atmosphere, Excellent value for money.

Noise can travel easily across the hotel (but that was only one night after the late night party goers coming back) - and you likely would experience that too in other hotels.

All in all the hotel was a good choice. If we would return for a visit to Reykjavik, we would certainly ask for a bigger room (if available).
(99558180)

Good location as starting point for exploring the city. Near tourist office and main points of interest. Friendly, cooperative and efficient staff. Good, solid breakfast buffet.

The room was a little tight, especially as we had also luggage from a visit to the USA with us. The bathroom facility was a little poor, damp and cramped. The central heating was very hot, and we could not turn it down.

While the location was quiet there was quite a bit of noise from the other rooms - specifically from above. The weekend also proved to be quite noisy at early hours of the morning.
(99758329)

Good location. Nice breakfast.

Double room had 2 single beds pushed together. Upon asking at reception I was advised that all double rooms had the same set up.
Anonymous (Young couple) 30 April 2007
This hotel is in a great central location and the staff are friendly, but unfortunately the rooms are so small that our double was hardly bigger than the bed. In addition, the condition of the rooms is not very good and the bathrooms are not very clean. All in all, it is difficult to understand how this is a 3-star hotel; it is certainly not value for money.
(99183694)

Friendly staff

Extremely tiny rooms; inadequate cleaning; not very good Continental breakfast; shower in room was broken when we arrived and was not fixed so after a day we had to move rooms; both of our rooms were very noisy as they were next to the lift

The location was excellent for visiting Reykjavic as the hotel is in a quiet street but still near the harbour, shops, restaurants etc. It was also reasonably priced and the staff were friendly - a relaxed feel to the place not big and impersonal. The breakfast was simple but enjoyable.

The size of the double room was very small with no drawers. The twin room, however, was fine.
