The hotel was very hot, would've preferred to be more airy. It also took a long time to get served at the bar. There seemed little urgency or understanding of who was next in line. I waited for 15mins on the Saturday evening with one bar attendant. The Managers should have provided additional resource to cover the busy periods. I ended up leaving the hotel to find other bars.

I would like to have known that the hotel was dead opposite the station as it made for boarding our return train home so much easier. (97033516)

The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable with a helpful staff. The proximity to the train station is a plus, but it bears mentioning that there are NOT a lot of places to shop or eat nearby, and the hotel restaurant is quite pricey. Also, hotel breakfast is quite expensive and doesn't offer a lot of options. Considering how near the train station is, the room (ours overlooked the station, too) was actually quite quiet. We also stayed in London on this same trip and noise was a problem there - not so at this hotel. (99423275)

Good clean accommodation, noisy creaking floorboards upstairs, could have been warmer, lovely bathroom. the bar and lounge form just one area where people can smoke which is most unacceptable. Very convenient location for the station, staff very helpful except the one who served us tea and toast in the lounge area in the morning, she must have had a bad night or a bad disposition! The christmas decorations were embarrassing, just the tree would have been adequate if nothing better than red tinsel strewn across the ceiling was available. As a traveling supporter, this was the first time I was staying overnight in Derby after a football match and The Midland was recommended to me by a fellow Derby County supporter. He always books into The Midland if staying up in Derby after a game. I was hardly in the room as only stayed the one night but overall, I was very impressed. In particular - despite arriving on a match day wearing my Derby shirt, the security man on the car park gate was very courteous and helpful, as were all the staff. (99785599)

The hotel was very clean and the room was generally quite pleasant. The hotel also is very close to the railway station and to local ameneties.

The bed was very soft, and not comfortable to those used to firm mattresses. Also there was no air-conditioning anywhere in the hotel. Smoking seemed to be allowed more or less anywhere in the bar / restaurant area even though there was a dedicated smoking room/area.

Ease of getting to via the road system although local signing could do with improving, ease of parking although with it being a weekend I expected this.

the bathroom suit seemed a bit outdated and the shower cubical if running and you opened the door the head was pointing striaght out on to the floor.

Breakfast was very disappointing - bacon cold, beans luke warm, scrambled egg like water and this was within ten minutes of opening. opted out of breakfast after first day but still got charged for the length of my stay! (quickly rectified however on checkout)Found the n ightly pianist in the bar area somewhat irritating after a short while - made it very difficult to hold a conversation. Other thsn breakfast quality of food was fair if soewhat expensive, room was of a good standard, bathroom clean (and the shower worked!) Would not consider it as a package to be good value for money. Amenities for those who do not want to either sit in their room or at the bar.

We only had one set of towels in the bathroom, 1 beaker, this is despite the fact that we had informed reception before dinner. The young lady on reception said she would get on to it straight away. Nothing happened. This was the only problem and everyone was prompt and efficient. We had a wonderful stay and a wonderful dinner. Thanks to everyone who took part. (3012497)

Have stayed in several Best Western hotels throughout the country the Midland Hotel, Derby is one of the top hotels I have stayed in, some of the other hotels in the chain would benefit from training by Midland Hotel Staff and on improving their facilities to the same standard as the Midland (1976540)
