Lovely breakfast + late night snack upon request.

Booked on line at 1500 but the hotel didn't get it. Arrived at 2245.Luckily the hotel was not fully booked.

Excellent food! Very friendly staff. Nice room.

We would have liked to have the towels changed once or twice during our 7 days stay. We tried to indicate that by throwing the towels over the edge of the bathtub after 3 days stay, only to find that the staff had put them back on the rack when we got back. Since the temperature was quite low the whole week, the towels did not get completely dry from day to day. We would have preferred smaller, but dry towels!
Linda from Langoelan, FR (Mature couple) 31 August 2008
Very poor value for money and would not recommend anyone to stay there.
(97511131)

Nice location

Were left to find the room ourselves, room was dirty, beds were the most uncomfortable we've ever slept in, bathroom was minute and tiles, taps & carpet were filthy. Couldn't get in bath without banging head on sink. Breakfast very poor.
Martin from WANTAGE, GB (Young couple) 28 August 2008
EXCELLENT SERVICE AND A FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. YOU COULD NOT FAULT IT IN ANY WAY. THANK YOU

Overall, very disappointing. I made the travel arrangements for our group and was embarassed at the choice I had made.
(108022994)

Excellent breakfast.

Room was dated and scruffy. Decor was very poor. Bed was uncomfortable. Price was in line with other establishments visited which offered much higher standards of accomodation

Very good comfortable hotel, friendly staff, good food and value for money

(97292341)

Friendly staff especially the owners. Excellent breakfast. Good atmosphere. Large bed.

Decor in the room was a bit dated (brown painwork etc), bathroom a little cramped and the carpet needed vacuuming
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 03 July 2008
Adequate for purpose of overnight stop on business journey.

Value for money, hospitable staff.

decor of room and pub. looks a bit tired.
Anthony from Maidstone, GB (Solo business traveller) 19 May 2008
Very good value
(97252487)

The hotel is unpretentious but delivers what it promises. My room was spacious and everything worked although it could do with being refreshed! Food was good and good value.

Not really a bad point but the hotel attracts a lot of locals which could mean the kitchen & restaurant getting stretched.

very friendly and accomodating. excellent breakfast, good food and lovely outside garden. There on business but should have taken advantage of what looked like a lovely walk up to dartmoor at the back of the hotel

not dislike, just no internet access - would have been useful
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 29 April 2008
There was nothing else that I needed to know before booking as it was all dealt with online.
The hotel was excellent value for money, good food and friendly staff.

overall the accomodation was relaxed, homely, welcoming and the food was excellent.

some fittings and fixtures were starting to look a bit dated and not working perhaps as well as they should. This is not so much a criticism but an observation of a popular stop off point that has not had chance to stand back and perhaps have an objective look at the accomodation they offer.

This hotel is a typical old English pub/hotel. OK although the furnishings could do with an upgrade.
I did have a particular issue with my room which was voiced at the time of checking out. Although the staff member was apologetic no discount was offered!

Decor was dated and didn't do justice to the beautiful countryside - flowery carpet/curtain, bathroom suite a dated pinky brown. On the plus side, plenty of towels, good size room with big bed, excellent warm welcome. Convenient location. A good stopover - friendly and good value alternative to the Travelodge.
(99075543)

Late arrival was not a problem - could even have a quick drink in the bar before bed. Friendly owners & staff.

This hotel is good value for money. The room was comfortable and very clean. Information regarding eating in the hotel would have been useful. If travelling long distance availability of dinner would be helpful.
The morning staff/owners were very friendly which was reassuring as staying alone can be daunting.
(99518250)

Staff at breakfast were very pleasant and breakfast itself was very good.

Very rushed check-in as the waitress was busy in the dining room. No details given regarding dinner availability, local amenities or where breakfast would be served.
Michael from Frome, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 11 March 2007
I would like to have known about all of the above. When I was shown the room the host even stated it was a bonu having a remote control for the TV. I did not want to have to telephone you to book out 24 hours early, I just wanted to tell the hotel that I was not staying the second night but they told me they would have to chage me anyway. A rubbish service from a very poor hotel. I even overheard the landlord negotiating with some builders for cheap room rates if 3 of the stayed in the same room. I did not want a doos house, I wanted the comfortable hotel that was advertised. It was rubbish.
(99157852)

The breakfast

TV was rubbish, room too hot, toilet did not flush properly, bedside light did not work, shower thermostat did not work properly and could easily scald, no telephone in room, bed was uncomforatble with old matress through which the spings could be felt in various places

If you can get past the chocolate covered paintwork, dark oak furniture and biege wall coverings in the bedrooms then your stay here will be excellent.
The food is freshly cooked, home made and excellent quality. Open log fires in the bar area provide a very relaxing artomosphere in which to unwind at the end of the day.
The staff are very friendly and do everything they can to make your stay pleasant.
Overall an excellent stay and will definately return later in the year whan I'm back on business.

The food was excellent as was the service, there was a lovely open fire in the bar. The staff were all very friendly. The English breakfast was superb. If we stay again we shall have to ask for a room at the back hoping it would not be so noisy.
(99586057)

Clean and warm

Noisy from traffic outside. Secondary double glazing does not mask the noise. Also thought the decor in the room a little old fashioned,(apart from the carpet which I wanted to roll up and bring home!), suggest something a bit brighter than brown paint.
Philip from Carmarthen, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 31 October 2006
A relaxing stay, with a comfortable and sizable room. The hotel is situated away from towns, but near enough for easy access.
Thr restaurant was good, with a very good selection of Table D'hote meals, as well an extensive bar-meal selections, to suit and satisfy adults as well as children.
Plenty of choice for breakfast.
And perhaps most importantly, hard working, courteous staff, who looked after us, without hovering!
We would stay here again.
(99265913)

The room was spacious, warm, and clean.
Tea/coffee making facilities, television, adequate toiletries, and quality toilet paper (!), putting more expensive hotels we have stayed at, in the shade.

The people were incredibly kind and accomodating. A true English pub B&B experience.

I thought the decor was a little dated and dark in the bedroom.

Caroline from Stansted, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 09 August 2006
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and although the restaurant areas were obviously very busy nothing was too much trouble and we were accommodated to our requirements and times. The food was excellent with a great choice of menu and a good wine list.
The cost of the room including a very adequate breakfast was very good value for money. We called in again on our return journey for breakfast on our way home.
(3305098024)

I liked the room simple but spacious with a very comfy big bed. The ability to open the window for fresh air was a bonus particularly in the hot weather. The option to sit in the sun in the garden was one we took advantage of in the evening when we arrived.

The decor in the restaurant areas looked a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 04 August 2006
If the rooms were a bit more spacious & proper modern bathroom - not even a proper bathroom door, but a badly fitting sliding one, carpet on floor & old fashioned , shabby suite

We were given a warm welcome on arrival. The room was what we expected from a small hotel/pub. For the evening meal,we were suprised by the quality & choice of the menu. We were not disappointed when the food arrived. Breakfast matched the evening meal. The clientele in the bar during the evening was a mixture of friendly locals & refugees from the moor on a wet night. A very entertaining evening.

Room appeared to be above the kitchen & was rather noisy until kitchen staff had finished. No good for early retirers
