Very good. Staff were friendly and very accommodating, food was freshly cooked and tasty. We would like to return and stay for longer. (97479509)

positive comments Lovely room, slightly small but very well furnished with a comfortable bed and very recent en-suite facilities that were spotlessly clean and contained a nice, hot, powerful shower.
negative comments Very few. TV didn't work because of hotel location/poor weather - but we didn't go to the Lakes to watch TV!

This was a great value overnight stop with real old world coaching inn charm & SO much better than a motorway-side hotel chain for about the same money, ! We paid for a superior room, although it looked fairly basic so I'm not sure what the differation was to a standard room a standard room. However it was perfectly comfortable & the bathroom was large, looked newly fitted-out & was very clean, so overall very good. The location is lovely, just up from some beautiful waterfalls that are an easy walk away, & a few minutes drive from the spectacular Ulswater lake. There were only a few folks in the night we were there & it was very quiet, so definitely NOT the place for a wild night out... but the friendly manager & chef on duty kept us amused & along with the other guests we had a very chatty evening in the comfortable bar with plenty of good food & wine, so the evening passed quickly. Great cooked breakfast next day too, so would certainly visit again. (99138710)

We were booked in for two nights, but because of poor food at dinner and a wait time of 35 minutes for a very average breakfast, we checked out and found an alternative for our second night. The establishment was failing on every level. As a pub there were no locals nor was it busy, 1 person at the bar at 9.30 on a Friday night. Only one other couple appeared to be staying in the hotel and despite this, the service at breakfast was very poor. The manager who had been there for two weeks was attentive to our complaint, but was tied by the current owners who appear not to have any idea of running such an establishment. My second hotel was excellent in comparison and only cost me an extra (3304491303)

positive comments The bed room was reasonable and the staff especially the manager was pleasant.
negative comments It was a failing pub calling itself a hotel and failing in this respect also. It was expensive for what it was and the food was quite poor.
