Generally a very well run hotel with very helpful staff and an excellent menu. Stayed in an 'executive' room which was very small as was the bed and on-suite.

Nice quiet setting

The newer part of the hotel lacks the lovely atmosphere of the older building. My room was at the end of an anonymous corridor and was rather chilly.

This hotel is to be highly recommended on all counts. The level of service is first class, as is the accommodation, and food. The staff cannot do enough to please. altogether one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in in the UK.

A very pleasant hotel in good surroundings. Good quality food, well presented and served and generally good value for money.
Staff friendly and helpfull.
A refreshing change from some of the big chain hotels They could possibly learn a lot from places like this.

The overall stay was fine but I felt claustrophobic in the small room and the view from the small window was a roof. However it was clean & had everything I needed & more. Single bed desk chair TV CD. The food in the resturant was excellent. The Manor is grand & in a nice setting. I would stay again but make sure I booked a larger room.

There is a TV in bedrooms with good channels, however we would have preferred to have enjoyed staying in the hotel throughout the evening rather than us going into town for 3 hours - a minor detraction. Nothing else to add - our stay was extremely enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you! I will recommend it to friends and I will definitely be back!

Very fresh, new, clean, excellent service. Relaxing

A TV lounge would be good but not absolutely necessary.

The hotel provided a reasonable level of comfort and the food was pretty good, however it did not represent particularly good value for money. Stopping orders for food at 8:30 in the evening is much too early.

The hotel had a bit of character, and the room was a little unusual, but good.

The location, views & grounds. Breakfast was good.

More choice of light meals/snacks.
Tracey from Aylesbury, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 31 October 2005
That the taxi's are not waiting for you at the train station. No cards giving out taxi numbers in the vacinity or the telephone box outside. So perhaps giving out the telephone numbers in the hotel information with the booking. I had to get a taxi with another local couple as they were on my way -
(2737819)

The friendly atmosphere and it was none threatening to a woman travelling by herself

Insisted people don't use their mobiles or at least turn off their ring tones in the dining room!!! Breakfast and evening meals included

This is one of the better independent hotels around Workington. The single room was small but in good order with a comfortable bed. Room service was most welcome after a tough day. The ensuite was clean and everything worked properly. The breakfast was particularly good with high quality local ingredients cooked well and quickly. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place seemed to attract local users as well. Always a good sign. On the down side this is a country house hotel that has been variously modified over the years making some awkward corridors and steps, and apparently no lift. Decor is chintzy. You can't get an early morning paper as local newsagents won't deliver.
(2873899)

The room was clean, generally quite well appointed and the bed was comfortable.

The reception desk is in one of the lounges where smoking is allowed. Not ideal for non smokers. Some of the rooms are a bit of a treck from reception and there did nor appear to be a lift.

Apart from the above, I found our stay at Hunday was very enjoyable and very pleasent to stay in, the staff were very freindly and could not do enough for you, nothing was to much trouble. We shall be visiting Cumbria soon and will definitely be staying there again! (not above the function room though!!)

The accommodation was very clean and very pleasent!!!

We stayed in a room above the function room and with a four month old baby it was very noisy after we had come upstairs to bed.

If I had been an individual guest there would be nothing to fault but we were a large party at the Wedding reception and although we paid £95 for the room we were herded as though we were discounted travellers.
(2191288)

Comfort, venue, we were overlooking the grounds but because of the dew which forme don the windows we couldn't see out in the morning. The grounds are lovely. It is well put together and will attract the top end of the market as it has set out to do.

Allowing Wedding Guests who stay over to use the whole hotel. Allow the Wedding Guests to eat in the dining room with natural light and views instead of shoving them on one long table in the semi basement. Serving the Wedding Dinner at the reception in a more civilised way. My drink was taken whilst I was still drinking it. My food and everyone elses was served on the plate instead of bringing the vegetables separately and it seemed to have been plated for hours. The whole of the hotel and grounds are beautiful but it lacks on the little details. The Funtion Manager should dress more in keeping with the Hotel instead of looking like a waitress in a white blouse and black skirt. She should be encouraged to look more elegant

The stay was very comfortable, and staff were very accommodating. As someone who stays in very many hotels, I would recommend the Hunday Manor very highly. It is possible to relax and know that folk are attentive to your needs.
(2404165)

Well furnished, comfortable, with sufficient space to move and work. The bed was very comfortable, and there was no noticable noise around.

Overall, the standard was very good, including the food and wine. The only thing I noticed, which was a small thing, was that some cutlery had to be requested. But overall, the attentivenes of staff was very high.
Denise from Chertsey, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 11 June 2005
The location and view is the hotel wonderful, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious - I could happily have chosen most of the items on the menu. I thought it was nice to choose from the dinner menu in the bar area - this avoids sitting at the table by your self waiting until the food is ready.
Easy access to Workington where I was working the next day but on a quiet lane, close to the main routes.
(2361725)

location and view , the staff and the food

Minor detail but the TV controller was attached to a cord by the bedside but i watched TV on the chaise lounge so couldn't change channels without moving. being such a lovely setting the hotel might like to consider producing a postcard for guests to send ?
