The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and the general atmosphere in the hotel. On the whole I was comfortable and able to relax.

I found the bed a little hard and as it was quite warm while I was there I would have liked to have had a sheet under the duvet, as the duvet with the cover on it alone was too hot. I found breakfast, though excellent, was expensive and would have liked to have had a less expensive alternative.

Underneath our room was the air conditioning units very very loud

The beautiful building, also the room was a good size. The shower was powerful and the breakfast was good. The hotel has a very pleasant atmosphere.

Our stay was perfect! The service was good from all the staff we encounted during our overnight stay. The room was in good order but would say that the bathroom could of done with some maintenance attention although i had a feeling they were working on that as there were work men working in other rooms. The dining room was pleasant and the food on offer for the evening meal was extremely well prepared and presented - the dining room staff were very good.

I booked a twin room but at check in I was told a double room had been allocated. This was quickly rectified. The room we were allocated was in the old part of the building and not particularly functional - the low ceilings and doorways were a bit of a nuisance and the lack of hooks for towels and the like was a definite drawback. I am very interested in history and matters historical but prefer modern facilities when it comes to accommodation.

Extreme traffice noise from about 5.00am. Sink plug did not operate - had to pick out the plug to let the water drain away. We assume this room was to be refurbished as there were holes in the bedroom wall where we assumed a mirror had previously been sited.

The resturant was closed due to a wedding and this was most unsatisfactory as the bar food was awful with choice apart from your fried variety...When we book a hotel one key reference point in deciding where to stay is that there is a resturant so we do not have to venture out after a long day... Also the music from wedding was very disruptive into the early hours of the morning. I think there should be a notice posted on the booking form to say if a hotel resturant is going to be closed. We stayed in a newly refurbished annexe with a decent bed. Very clean and tidy.

Several minor faults in the room - heated towel rail not working, bathroom mirror oxidising, no shaving light, shower controls difficult to master, and although not a fault a major irritation was the on demand hot water system that meant running both shower and basin taps at full hot and waiting 3-4 minutes for hot water.

We were not advised of the choice of eating venues so chose the dining room by default... the vegetarian dish was tasteless due to the kitchen obviously having run out of most of it! The breakfast fare was no better - no rolls, coffee and tea in short supply, toast which had never seen a toaster (maybe 10 secs), a single poached egg sitting on top of said 'toast' having not been drained of water first... need I go on. We went for breakfast to B&Q cafe that day, ate a chinese carry-out that night - and went to BHS for the next morning's breakfast... I work in the industry and will not return to the Rose and Crown.
