Not the cheapest place to stay and the price didn't include breakfast, but location on the high street was excellent and they do have a car park (useful, the public parking can fill up if its busy). Room was clean and had TV/alarm etc.
If you're tall, mind you head on the low beams in the corridors - the building has "character" :-) (no problem in the room though)

The hotel was being renovated hence the bar not being available. I think it would have been thoughtful to have notified us before arrival. The receptionist even told us it was open when we arrived.

Excellent restaurant - both for dinner and breakfast.

Loose toilet seat and flush did clear the bowl. Retaurant toilet (male) cubicle awash with urine.

The room was clean and very nice. Having the trouser press plus an iron and ironing board available in the room, yet out of sight was very good and useful. The lounge area off the reception was cosy and we used this a few times.

We had a bar meal at lunch time which was not very good, this put us off staying at the hotel for an evening meal, however the beakfast on Sunday morning was excellent.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 27 June 2007
The room was adequate although the 4'6 double-bed was too small for our liking. The corridors were rather dingy and smelt smoky in places. However the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.

There was room to move around.

Lack of bed layers, it was either too hot or too cold, blankets are prefered to duvets

On the plus side, The George is a nice traditional English hotel, good staff, good breakfast and a nice size room with big comfy bed.
On the minus side, the room smelt smoky even although it was a non smiking room, the parking is far too small and the hotel is very hot. I must admit it was 30+ outside so everywhere was hot, but we found it hard to sleep! All in all, not a bad hotel.
(3304941547)

Easy to find, large room, good facilities and nice breakfast!

VERY HOT ROOM, it had all the windows shut although it was 30+ outside. The room also smelt very smoky although it was a non smoking room.

clean modern rooms., accomodating staff, excellent ambience, and the perfect downtown location combined with old-world charm. I can say no more.
(3304713511)

as my family left Wallingford in 1639 I was most interested in a facility from that era but which still had more modern ameneties. The Geroge more than fulfilled that need. The rooms were clean and modern while the entrance and tavern helped fulfill my need for old-world feel.

nothing

Overall I would probably return here again, not because of the quality of accomodation, It would be because of the Staff who were top notch and a charming location.
(3305017351)

The Hotel had some charm, and is in a lovely location, I was stuggling to book accommodation in the Reading area and had to look for accomodation outside of the main Reading Town. I found this location to be a pleasant surprise. The traveling into Reading from here is no problem at all.

It was easy to see into the room from the Courtyard so I could not have the curtains open in the room, which is a real shame as it's a nice feature to look out on, (the Courtyard was very busy/noisy), the hotel and bathrooms are in need of a refurb. The wireless network was low bandwidth so ok for standard downloads but anything larger was timeconsuming. However it was free which made up for it

The annex rooms were on the whole very quiet, although room 102 is to be avoided as it backs out onto the courtyard where there are tables, as well as being right by the firedoor which slams.
Staff are extremely efficient and courteous.
Rooms are not overly spacious, but are plenty big enough to move around it. Beds extremely comfortable and king size which was a bonus.

We found the hotel much better than we expected considering it was only 3*. Car park was a little cluttered but otherwise food was excellent and cleanliness remarkable. I loved the fact it looked very old from the outside but had modern extensions for the accommodation. Now my son lives in Wallingford my husband and I will be regular visitors, and have already booked at the Goerge for another stay.

It was olde worlde in charm but modern in facilities. Very clean and quiet.

A little trouble getting the staff to understand english!! Bed was unbelievably hard and I still have backache from sleeping on it.

I had to phone up and ask for an extra bed put in the room, and they were most accomodating.

There were quite a few cob webs in the corners of the ceiling.

Overall the stay was very pleasant. It was encouraging to see an ice machine that actually works!! The information provided on the website was acurate and sufficient to make the choice of this hotel. One of the party is vegetarian and that was a major factor. My only concern was a lack of car parking space for my car but it was accomodated on the drive way into the hotel and did not cause a problem.

Pleasant setting despite being on main road, clean, good shower, comfortable room with usual facilities

A lovely dinning room bright and lot's of room, good choice of menu and food well presented , they could do with another waitress though as they were busy and there was a wait, staff were pleasant. We needed sandwiches at a specified time due to insulin requirment, they arrived promptly and were so well presented and with a lovely smile! Reception staff friendly and interested in you, again they were happy and one felt enjoyed their work, quite refreshing these days. The hotel had a lovely outside area to have lunch sadly the weather was not in our favour,we will definatly use this hotel again, if I had known the number of Antique shops and art shops we may have arrived a day earlier!!WE would recommend anyone with this passion to stay a few days. As for the concert we could'nt have been closer to the venue and were able to walk there, as time was important this was great. Thank you to all at the hotel.
(3304621947)

Spacious and well furnished room all our needs met, little items appreciated like cotton wool jar, i forgot mine and ironing facilities, we were attending a concert and partcipating.

Only one thing, the pillows were not comfortable, just my view, it would not put me off returning.

Generally i would say that The George is probably one of the best hotels (in it's class)that i have stayed in for a long time.I travel around the UK and Germany quite alot and sadly i find that hotels are generally of a much higher standard and cheaper in Germany compared with the same class in the UK.

The room we were allocated was very small and the TV was small. We tried to order food but the phone didnt work. When we phoned through for food on our mobile it wasn't avialable as they were catering for a wedding and the chef was too busy. Staff were not particularly helpful or efficient and seemed in a bit of a daze. Its not a cheap hotel and we found it offered poor value for money.
