Hôtel Balladins Arras

The hotel was central to our touring area. the staff were pleasant though not particularly helpful. I have stayed in Balladines elsewhere before and this one does not measure up to my previous experience of this group. (97334333)

The room was clean and tidy. The breakfast bar was well stocked with a good choice of food.

I didn't realise there wasn't a Lift and we were on the third floor. Some of the lights in the room didn't work and it took three requests to get them mended. Public areas and stairwells were in poor condition and need re-decorating. The restaurant was not open for dinner at week-ends, and had I known I would not have booked this hotel. However when open [Monday to Thursday] the food in the reataurant was very nice and good value for money.

Staff friendly, hotel clean and tidy. Good range of foods for breakfast. Tables and chairs outside hotel where we sat to eat our picnic tea.

There was no hot water in either our or our friends room though the problem was fixed quickly when I reported it.

Some confusion over the hotel reservation but this was eventually handled by the Active hotels staff via telephone. My compliments to them on that (107266109)

This is a reasonable priced hotel close to (but not within walking distance of) the centre of Arras. It does not have much character but is perfectly comfortable. The food was good, although the menu is not extensive. There is an excellent buffet breakfast and also buffet options for the evening meal. (97377585)

The hotel was easily found and the reception staff were very friendly but efficient.Our room was quite large, very clean and the bathroom was clean and functional. We arrived for a Sunday night stop over and were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was open for business. Our meal was most enjoyable and excellent value for money.

We received exactly what it said on the tin: a reasonable class of hotel, clean, well located and excellent value for money.

The gentleman on duty at the reception desk had very little English (neither was our French!))..He was a nice fellow but needs to be a little warmer to his guests. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and will return..Many thanks...Murdo MacInnes (97902237)

a pleasant stay only one night as i was visiting head office this hotel was practical for me outside the centre which makes it ideal when you have work to prepare.the restaurant was a bonus saved the problem of driving into arras.never noticed on the site that it was also a restaurant maybe i overlooked this. I was extremely disappointed with this hotel. The staffs attitude was very disturbing. I believe a lot of this attitude came from our lack of language. Although we certainly do try to speak the language of the country we are visiing. The staff in this hotel seem to treat English speaking people very differently to other guests. I believe if you advertise in English, then surely you must accept English speaking guests and treat them in the same way as the french guests. The hotel had many french police as guest at the time and two of them spoke to us, to inform us that they would like us to excuse the staff and to state that this was not the normal french way. We do know this as this is out fourth visit to France and all visits have made us want to return. We will not however return to this Arras Hotel. I would highly recommend also that you place a more welcoming hotel on your questionaire form. I have just completed four responses from both England and France to have to look at this hotel each time a place I would rather forget. (3304614841)

Room and dining room good

The attitude of staff made the visit very, very uncomfortable. Morning staff in breakfast room were rude, breakfast room very poor and left very messy. Tables were not cleared and on two morning I had to clear a table for us to have breakfast myself. Third moring I went to sit in evening dining room were several other people were sitting for breakfast to be yelled at across the room to go to the other room. We did not take breakfast that morning. Check out took 45 minutes, with several mistakes to bill and visa charges. My husband and myself have only a little french, the staff treated us with contempt. We had been travelling for five weeks and we stayed the last three nights in this accomodation while visitng the battle fields were our grandfather fought it was a very sad and difficult time for us and my 80 year old mother in law, the staff at this hotel made it even more so. A very unhappy ending to a holiday.

Overall the hotel and location was very quiet, facilities were generally as expected although a vending machine or tea-making machine on site would have been nice. The presence next door of a large camp of travellers made me slightly concerned for the security of my car overnight, however this concern proved unfounded. It is certainly good value for the price.
