The only complaint we had was that when we went to make a reservation for dinner in the dining room, we were told that the earliest sitting would be 8:30pm as the kitchen was busy with a private party prior to that. I don't think that it is right that a private party should inconvenience the hotel guests. Other than that the experience was first rate. (3304206945)

positive comments THe fact that it was built around a castle.

A nice weekend break in a city centre hotel without the hassle of the city centre.you are only 10 mins. from centre by taxi.the setting, the history, the sheer wonder of the castle itself lends itself to a very special time. (3304499545)

positive comments Good car park, wonderfull foyer, really breathtaking, Staff really friendly and helpfull.Anice weekend
negative comments The room was a little bit smaller than i thought it would be for the money that you were paying.

My husband and I would stay at the Clontarf Castle again - our room was nice, clean and quiet. We ate in both the bar and the bistro and found the food to be quite good. We enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the hotel. Getting downtown was no problem on the city bus once we knew our way around the bus stops. Thank you for a pleasant stay in Dublin! (2928703)

positive comments Our room was just the right size, clean and very quiet.
negative comments We took the public bus into town everyday using our purchased 5 day visitor bus pass. We were told the bus stop was right by the entry to the hotel. We stood there until a bus went right by us, made the circle and then proceeded down the street to the real bus stop. The stop right by the entry is the last bus stop. To catch it to go downtown you must go out, turn left and walk about 1/2 block down to the first bus stop on the route. Also, if you come out the gate and turn right and then take the first street to the left (and walk down to Clontarf) you can save yourself about 10 minutes that it takes the bus to go all the way around the route. Perhaps in the folder in the room the bus directions could be written out.

The staff were very friendly and the food and drink were of a good standard. The consierge was extremely helpful. The toiletries were of poor quality and the towels were quite small. The handrail over the bath made it very awkward when having a shower as you kept knocking your arm on it. I would like to have known that some rooms had skylights instead of 'proper' windows so that I could request my choice before arrival. Overall a very pleasant place to spend a weekend. (3304098914)

positive comments The atmosphere of the hotel - and the Guinness!!
negative comments Leisure facilities would be a good addition to this hotel. An airport shuttle would also be a good idea.

David from Belfast, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 01 March 2006

Generally for us the hotel represented poor quality and value for money for 4 star status. The room was small and smelled musty/damp and was not at all what I expected. I thought I had booked 2nights B&B through the website however discovered at checkout that it was room only and was charged an extraordinary price for 2mornings breakfasts. The fixtures and fittings in the ensuite bathroom required maintenance, the fan would come on in the morning and waken us and the room was cold at night. Overall a complete letdown. (3304265206)

positive comments Good breakfast
negative comments Musty, damp smell in room. Small room. Very cold at night. No control over bathroom fan which came on in the morning and woke us. Broken/ Faulty fixtures & fittings (bathroom taps & lock)

We loved this hotel, the staff were not only efficient, but very helpful and friendly, it seemed as if they enjoyed helping us, which made a pleasant change. The hotel was delightful and so clean, the beds were lovely and comfortable. It is just outside of Dublin city centre, so was ideal for anyone who wanted a peaceful nights sleep. Not a place for the young who want to party all night, which suited us and my parents. (2612594)

positive comments very clean with a good atmosphere, the staff were better than in any other hotel in this country and around the world.
negative comments Bar menu, also the cost of the breakfast I would have prefered an itemised menu so I could have chosen a light breakfast with a price to match

Before accomadation I know only price and uotside image of hotel. After my accomadation I know now that this hotel has a very good place , very beatiful view from windows and from the bay quay. I know now that very good professional team are working in this hotel. So, I enjoed all day spent there. (3013968)

positive comments I liked very much place Clontarf itself and the atmosphere in the hotel. I would like to note hospitality of hotel's team too.
negative comments It seems to me that it is possible to include into breacfast menu something els, for example I used to eat a porridge for breakfast/

The hotel is first class with good sized well equipped rooms. The breakfast is excellent, with a good choice of hot and cold items. The evening meals are again a very high standard, my only complaint would be after two evening meals we felt there was a need for daily specials to complement the main menu offering more choice. The hotel should include in the hotel information the excellent bus service from outside the hotel with a bus every 8 minutes to the centre of Dublin. Overall the stay was a very good experience and we would not hesitate to recommend to friends. (2669034)

positive comments Good sized room, first class service, very helpfull staff.
negative comments Some leisure facilities such as a pool, would be nice. The restaurant menu could be changed more often, or have daily specials

customers should be advised if any major items are not working ie the air conditioning, I was unable to get a good night sleep as the room temperature was 29 degree and no offer of a fan was made at the time of checking in. When I mentioned about the air conditioning again they said that they are aware of the problem as it had not been working for a few days (2624557)

negative comments staff to be more informative

Not a real castle experience (thank heavens) but a modern hotel built to include authentic ancient features in lobby and some public rooms. The whole effect is pleasing and not overly cute. Staff was very helpful. My wife and I are experienced travellers and would rate the overall experience very highly. Recommended for those not wanting to stay in downtown Dublin but conveniently close to it and the airport as well. (1852102)

positive comments Great ambiance, delightful room, excellent food.
negative comments Driving directions to hotel provided wiyh on-line booking were somewhat vague. Could be improved.
