Lovely cosy quiet room reached via a delightful winding staircase. Attentive and knowledgeable staff made our stay very pleasant and restful. Great ales on offer in the bar with great 'local' atmosphere,
(107465791)

The hotel was quaint and traditional yet with modern facilities and extremely clean and well kept. The furnishings were tasteful and comfortable. Excellent choice of breakfast menu.

We needed a stop off on our journey to Portland- we had to go to Sheffield and decided to carry on and not have to retrace our journey on the M1 next day.
the hotel was easy to find and we want to go again, and eat there!!!
(108045222)

pleasant staff. we phoned to warn that we might not arrive till around 10pm,the staff noted this on the computer. We wished that we had arrived in time for a meal, those around us looked very good

No bad points

It is an ancient (pre Civil War) but very comfortable inn with good food. It is right on the green but with easy parking. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the beer is well kept.

Quirky building and helpful staff

Getting lost in Banbury trying to find it

its a shame that hotels like this have never got many tea bags & use nescafe coffee in the rooms ......
other than this this is one of the best hotels i have stayed in

Nice spacious room, which traditional decor

we were dissapointed there was no shower, but the (noisy) jacuzzi bath was a novelty
Anonymous (Young couple) 19 March 2008
Overall disappointing, wasnt a hotel which I felt I wanted to rush back to after my day out.Far more impressive from the outside than in side however with the exception of the initial member of staff (which I believe is training)your staff were very welcoming and genuine and made us feel very at home. Not somewhere i would revisit but you did ask!!
(97693871)

The staff were a credit to the pub with the exact mix of friendliness yet proffessional. The building itself ia beautiful.

Poor decor, dated and unloved.Bedroom not well thought ouy at all, poor lighting, badly posistioned mirrors, hot water nearly boiling which should come with some warning as you may have a family with little ones.Matress was awful, almost felt every spring!!Food was very disappointing, certainly didnt have that home cooked flavour which I was expecting.

Reinterating the above comments with the endorsement of finding a charming hotel which achieved for us both, a peaceful weekend break from the busy workaday week. Adequate parking facilities, lovely Oxfordshire village (Adderbury) to explore on foot and a well stocked bar in which to imbibe on our return.
(97389658)

Sympathetic use and balance of old & new i.e.historic beamed construction building, charming inglenook fireplace in our room, well appointed restaurant with modern decor but all bleded together very well.
Breakfast treats = Eggs Benedict
Reasonably priced, excellently cooked/presented evening meals in the above mentioned restaurant.
Very attentive, welcoming & friendly staff in all parts of the hotel

Nothing to dislike at all.
From previous reviws read prior to booking, the awareness of a narrow spiral staircase was helpful in determining the size of our weekend luggage etc. The staff were always on hand to assist here too.

A good place for overnight visit, able to make late booking and well organised on arrival.
Excellent food and great value for money if looking for a 'character' place to stay. Do not use if you are expecting a modern, standard 'plastic'hotel
(97811818)

Lots of Character, very good value for money, Excellent food (Dinner and Breakfast)

Some carpets / decor looking a littel tired...but pehaps in keeping with 'character'so no big deal

Lovely olde worlde building with 21st century comforts.

Minor niggle - the bulbs over the bathroom sink didn't work.

We loved the traditional atmosphere and that the food was home cooked
and absolutely delicious.

The room was a little overpriced for the size and facilities

Easy, comfortable and relaxed place to stay overnight when working in the area.
(97894174)

Village location. Friendly staff. Easy car parking. Pub-like atmosphere.

Difficult access to rooms via very tight stair.
Anonymous (Young couple) 17 July 2007
Fantastic food and very atmospheric
(97642501)

The period features, nooks and crannies of the building. Lots of stone and wood beams etc makes it very interesting. Four poster bed is terrific.
The restaurant/ dinner menu was excellent and fish Friday well received

Breakfast was incredibly slow and did the whole stay a disservice. The same person was doing serving and checking out, further delaying guests that were on a tight schedule in the morning

Bedroom very comfortable

Although not a problem to me, the bathroom (no shower) attached to my room on my most recent stay involved climbing a narrow flight of steps. This arrangement could be awkward for elderly people.

Our stay at the Red Lion was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Our eveining meal and breakfast were very good and highly recommended. It would have been nice to have had a little more pressure on the shower but the abundant hot water was compensation.

The twin room we occupied was clan and very comfortable an ideal stopover.

The fan in the bathroom was a little on the noisy side.

The hotal was small and friendly with reasonable sized rooms which were very clean. Towels and linen used were good.
Staff very friendly although not over bearing.

For years I have harboured a dream of the ideal English Contry Pub - and have always been disappointed. The Red Lion resored my faith in the existence of such a phenomonen - it was perfect in every respect. Welcoming staff, cosy bars. Log fires - and excellent food in the Restaurant. All this coupled with peace and quiet in this lovely village made it a perfect stay. We'll be back!
Julie from Camberley, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 11 March 2007
The feature room was excellent. A large, comfy 4 poster bed, plenty of space, a sofa, a huge TV and a lovely bath and shower.
The hotel was very old, lovely spiral staircase with low doorframes. All very clean. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent.
Found it cheaper to book online.
(99945470)

The feature room was large with a very comfortable bed.

I would have liked a bit more in the way of toiletries and a shower cap.

the bar area and the standard of the food was very good, and the real ale was excellent, but the room was so bad that I'm afraid we definately would not go back.

we did not get the'feature room' that we booked, the room we had was very basic, not too clean, the bed was uncomfortable, and the noise from the road kept us awake most of the night.
