negative comments The bathroom was tiny and smelled bad, and the towels were threadbare and not white enough - obviously well used.

We thought of booking for two nights but were glad we didn't. The hotel was basic and the room utterly devoid of any charm or character. It simply ticked basic boxes by being clean and tidy. The staff were friendly polite and helpful which went some way in compensation for the tired accommodation. One to avoid in future. (3305014546)

positive comments Nothing
negative comments Small dingy room, poor bathroom, creaky floors, tatty furniture

DAVE from Sun City, United States;US (Same sex couple) 13 July 2006

Our room was in the roof. Lots of stairs probably impossible to instal lift but would have been nice. Only customer comfort recomendation - the room was very hot and stuffy - having a fan in the room would have been great. Fortunately we were prepared and carried a fan with us!!! (3304911889)

positive comments Helpful staff

The hotel was ideally situated in the beautiful village of Bourton on the water. The staff were very friendly and helpful however the room was not up to the standard we had expected and the beds were not very comfortable (new mattresses required). If we were to stay again I would request a room in the main part of the hotel. The hotel bar was very smokey so unable to enjoy a drink in that part of the hotel. (3304885190)

positive comments Food very good. Staff very helpful and pleasant
negative comments Stayed in the cottage part of the hotel. Not very impressed with room as staircase steep and narrow and room very basic, not up to the standard that we had expected.

~Hotel manager was a lovely chap very polite and informative. Also you had a waitress in the restaurant who was superb the other waitress everything was a lot of trouble for her. (3304055602)

positive comments quiet location
negative comments bedrooms very small. Shower cubicle far too small. Pillows x 2 absolutely useless and flat as pancakes! dirty cushions on bed which had blood stains on - this was our first impression of the room and to be basically honest put me off your hotel.

The hotel was not worth over £100 a room. If it is to command that sort of money significant improvements need to be made. The hotel was not bad enough to formally complain but was not good enough for me to recommend. (2754984)

positive comments Basic and tired. In need of refurbishment.
negative comments The Bedrooms need to be refurished and the quality of the breakfast needs to be improved.
Poor
Anonymous (Mature couple) 22 August 2005

The bedrooms were filthy. We had to ask that the bed be made up with sheets only, as we didn't want the blankets anywhere near our bodies. The bathroom was awful - I would not take a bath, and when we ran the shower, the water would not drain away due to the congestion in the pipes. The basin had been wiped with what looked like a dry, dirty cloth, and the toilet had not seen a bottle of bleach in I don't know how long. We tried to get alternative accommodation in the village but there was no availability, so we were stuck with this hotel. It was very disappointing as the weekend break was a gift from our daughter. It was most definitely not worth the £105 per night. (2466753)

positive comments From the outside it had so much promise, we were very excited to be there - although this was very short lived.

We stayed in one of the three rooms within the cottage, which is slightly detached from the main hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel itself including the bar area was charming. The staff made us feel very welcomed. (2185034)

positive comments The hotel was in a great location in Bourton on the Water; our room certainly was quirky and while we were told it was separate from the main part of the building 50 yds down the road was not what we expected
negative comments being so far away from the rest of our party
Poor
Colin from Solihull, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 16 March 2005

At dinner(pre-booked)we were asked for our order. When I asked for some menus I was told that there was one in the room! Dinner had sold out of 3 main courses at 8.30pm and this has happened to us before. The manager gave us complimentary dinner. The salmon and prawn terrine had frozen prawns in it. Main course was fine except that the staff were laying up for breakfast around us and it was only 9.15 on a Saturday night! We were not charged for dinner or the room. Manager very apologetic. (1958422)

positive comments Location
negative comments Room was very small, unclean had cobwebs.
