Easy booking process, prompt telephone answering, welcoming & professional reception staff, stylish room decor, quality of bathroom.

Scruffy/dated public areas, inexperienced bar staff, breakfast tables in restaurant not clean (also butter pats greasy & melted), bedroom windowsill dirty.

Head receptionist very good, although other staff automatically added breakfast charges, despite us only booking on a room only basis. Had to have several arguments about this, until Liz, sorted it out.
Health centre very good, and worth the visit. Rooms good and clean, breakfast staff very polite, and good quality food.
(97962217)

Good rooms, excellent health spa.

Weddings meant rooms were very noisy, even though we were on the third floor.

the room was comfortable, and well equiped

the room was above one of the function suites and the music was far to loud and what was particularly annoying was the fact that the bloody bedroom window would not close properly

Overall very good, clean accomodation, room standard was good. Friendly and efficient staff who were all English.

Convenient to area visited. Good accomodation and friendly staff

Noise from road. Slow service at breakfast.

Staff were pleasant and accomodating and acted quickly to any request. The food though at breakfast was almost inedible. Kippers had to be sent back as under cooked, scrambled egg was dry and over cooked, and tomatoes hardly glanced at the grill. Hotel manager should check the notices in the lifts - still advertising 2006 Xmas and events. Generally the hotel was comfortable and well furnished following the refurbishment. Also enjoyed the fact that it is a non smoking establishment, although why a cigarette machine in the bar? Spa facilities and treatments were very good.
(99145471)

Bedroom was well furnished and to a good standard and style. Excellent bathroom. I would have expected a bar in the room though.

The room was cold. Heating was far from adequate. Radiator kept switching off

The staff were excellent. The breakfast was compregensive and well served. My bedroom window was broken- it wouldn't open but it was fixed quite promptly. I am a smoker so I do like to know in advance if a smoking room will be available. This hotel is non smoking totally from Good Friday- this is good info for non smokers.
(3304497159)

Clean spacious friendly helpful staff

No smoking rooms and the hotel will be totally non smoking from this weekend. I would like to know this in advance

Very good, enjoyable stay. Staff we're very helpfull and chatty.Bar could be a bit more welcoming with a better sitting area.
(3304363501)

Modern and upto date facility

Directions to hotel well hard to follow. Post code does not relate to road you need to be on for access, takes you down a blocked off road. When having a shower the water fluctuated frequently between scolding hot and freezing cold

The hotel was clean, tidy and the staff efficient and polite. The food was good but I must draw a comparison to other hotels in the Manchester area where the prices are significntly lower and the food quality at least comparable. Online booking was quick and efficient and although short it was a pleasant stay
(3304200793)

Room and hotel were generally clean and staff polite and efficient

Resturant prices were not reflected in the food quality

This hotel is set in lovely grounds and offers well decorated, clean rooms and a beautiful spa and pool. Although close to a faily major road, the rooms are well insulatad against noise and we enjoyed a quiet night. For a 4* hotel I feel the communal areas need a bit of tidying up..the decor is looking a little shabby. Breakfast was disappointing as the service was very slow and the staff rather surly and the portion sizes for cooked breakfast were extremely small. We couldn't get into the restaurant at all because of a function. The hotel did telephone and advise us of this a few days before our arrival which was courteous but still left us having to drive a few miles into Rochdale for the neareast decent restaurant.
(2954604)

Very well presented rooms. Exceptionally clean. Spa and leisure area beautifully maintained and decorated.

Too few staff for breakfast meant long delays and breakfast was on the small side. Reception staff were busy chatting to each other rahter than attanding to guests.

The only compliant we have is the mannor of one of the receptionists she was very blunt and quite arrogant. We were not the only couple to notice this, several others had too. I did not catch her name unfortunately. Perhaps a little staff training on this area would not go a miss.

excellent new leisure facilities, good rooms and facilities

Minor things - more general information needed on reception, signage required in leisure facilities - emergency stops in saunas
C from London, UNITED KINGDOM;GB (Solo leisure traveller) 10 September 2005
I would have liked to have known about the thermal spa as this is quite unusual and definitley a highlight of the hotel.
(2702625)

The new leisure facilities were fantastic. The bed was very comfotable.

The lighting in the leisure complex was very bright. It would add to the overall relaxing experience if it was dimmed. When I ordered a vodka and tonic at the bar, there was no ice which meant that I resented paying £4.50 for a V&T which was deeply unpleasant to drink. The girl at the bar promised to get some more ice, but never actually did. The actual bar area was a little outdated as well I thought.

Very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and again friendly service. Only complaint was the shower was difficult to regulate. It came out in a jet and you had to go under the jet to try and adjust the temperature. Freeze or Scald !! Also if just looking to have a quick wash of the hair to go out for the evening the shower was static i.e. you have to have a shower also. I was surprised at there being only only one hand and one bath towel provided for the room. I am aware we could have asked for extra but assumed as we were staying two nights they would realise it was double occupancy and provide two of each at least on the second day. We had booked the room in advance for double occupancy. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and should we be in Rochdale again on business would choose this hotel.
(1799078)

Nice comfy bed with a good quality firm matress. Good Steam Iron and Ironing board.

Shower hard to regulate. Only one bath & one hand towel for double room.

I would like to have known there were steps in the room, and steps up to the room after leaving the lift. Also I feel that the room (no.48) would serve better as a single room. I have had better rooms in lesser standard hotels. Also, the room was very dark throughout the night and I had to leave the bathroom light on so that I wouldn,t fall down the 3 steps when I went to the toilet during the night. The bed was too cramped up to the wall which meant disturbing the other person when getting out
(1415085)

we didn't.

room much too small. bed too near wall, had to disturb partner when getting out

Macdonald Hotels are to our personal standard. We have stayed in them before and are always completely won over by the overall decor and cleanliness of the rooms.May we particularly point out that the hotel receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly and it was a refreshing change to deal with someone with maturity and experience of life.

The room was furnished to a very high standard and completely to our taste.Wanted to transfer it back home!!

Breakfast is served from 07:00 onwards.
The web site did not ask if I wanted a non-smoking room: it should do.
The catch on the window was damaged and so the window could not be sealed tight.

The hotel is typically English - it is a large building with fair sized rooms that is adequately decorated.

The hotel is roomy good accom clean and the staff are friendly and courteous.
The parking is more than adequate and the check in easy and without hassle. As was checking out.
The food is a little less desirable. Ended up eating else where that evening.
