Booked at the last minute, not knowing what to expect. We were delighted with hotel. We felt that even the hotels' own website didn't totally do justice to the lovely decor of some of the communal rooms. There are plenty of seating areas with comfy sofas and furnishings to relax after having a meal in the lovely restaurant. The food being excellent. We highly reccommend the sticky ginger pud and the cheese trolley is very good. Even though we ended up in the coach house annex that is not in the main building, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and are now looking at returning. (107641789)

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to everything but quiet. The room was spotless and well equipped. The bar staff friendly and efficient. The restaurant was superb, the meal was presented very well, well cooked and well priced for the excellent quality. (1226444)

Charge for childrens breakfast was disappointing. Otherwise, a fantastic stay. Highly recomend it. (1418780)
We made a last minute booking and were supprised they could accomodate all 5 of us in August. There were a lot of stairs to the room and no views over the spectacular countryside that this hotel overlooks. However, we accept that this was the last room availabe and thoughly enjoyed our stay. We have and will continue to reccomend the Hotel to our friends and family. The Chef should be awarded an award for his Sticky Toffee Pudding! Excellent presntation - Light and well caramalised with a spiced real egg custard - HEAVEN! The Hotel is perfectly located: The Lake District, North Yorkshire Moors, Ingleton Caves & Waterfalls, Pennines, Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum, High Force and Beamish are all within a short car journey away. Appleby Castle was sole dissapointment: Fading sign stating 'THE IS CASTLE CLOSED' In August! (1395661)
