Excellent, will return

Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Absolute winner was the 1st class food, prepared and cooked by a superb chef, a rolls royce meal for a mini price!

Dated rooms, air of wear and tear, but totally acceptable

Town centre site very handy for buses we needed on our walking holiday. The bath was also very welcome at the end of the walk.

Rooms needed decorating and mine was very small. It was difficult to raise anyone on reception on occasions.
stephen from barrow in furness, GB (Mature couple) 29 September 2009
allthough the bed was comfortable and facilities ok , the place needs a good clean , doesnt seem to be enough staff to cope at busy times , its not a place to stop for more than one or two nights , the hotel need a lot of updating ,

friendly staff, easy to find

room very dusty , shower area mouldy, wallpaper coming off walls and damp patch on ceiling , curtains very dirty and holed

Overall positive stay. Staff helpful and pleasant but hotel looked a bit tired and would benefit from some general upgrading.

Again, the staff were excellent. I really enjoyed the time there and would go again.
(107940014)

The staff in the hotel make this a very pleasent and enjoyable experience. I would recommend this hotel for couples but if travelling with young children you have to make your own fun, what is ok.

No real bad points but other things I wish I had, such as a shower in room instead of bath and a dvd player.
Elizabeth from Colchester, GB (Group of work colleagues) 05 May 2009
All the guests from our Group had a welcomed sleep in comfortable accommodation and were well fed on Sunday morning with a hearty breakfast. We had no complaints and have all suggested that we come again.
(107396156)

The room was comfortable and staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was very good value for money.

The email confirmation of our booking did not stipulate that we had not paid for our stay. It would have been useful to have been advised of that before arrival, although the staff concerned were extremely apologetic.

Really disappointed with hotel - you can see its been a beautiful hotel in its day but just been neglected. I plan on writing to the hotel directly to air my complaints.
(107120097)

Good location.

Roof in room leaked.
No shower - only bath.
No telephone in room and hardly ever anyone on at reception - how can you complain?
Noisy banging from pipes in room so kept awake all night.
Bus parties use this hotel - not good when trying to get breakfast.

The location of the hotel was perfect as it was very central and on the route of the Rob Roy Way that I was walking with my son and my colleague.
Overall I was happy with the accommodation which I consider to be good value for money.
I had read some mixed reviews of the hotel at the time of booking which, following our experience, appear in some cases to have been a little unfair if not harsh. Perhaps these comments were made prior to some of the improvements that appear to have been made.
Please continue with any plans you have to improve the decor and you will have a winner on your hands.
(99886907)

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also good. There was plenty of hot water for baths etc.

No particulr dislikes. The decor within the hotel looked a bit tired, particularly in the rooms, but it was also apparent that some efforts were being made to remedy this. The service at the bar in the evening was a little slow as the bar and reception appeared to be manned by the same person. A shower in the bathroom would have been a welcome addition.

VERY DISSAPOINTED IN THE HOTEL. I MENTIONED THE ENSUITE NOT HAVING A SHOWER. IN MY OPINION THE HOTEL IS VERY OLD AND MOST DEFINETELY IN NEED OF BEING UPGRADED AND RESTORED TO UP TO DATE STANDARDS. IT IS SHOWING ITS AGE. APART FROM THAT WE ONLY HAD BREAKFAST 2 MORNINGS,THAT WAS EXCELLENT.
(99284185)

IT WAS AREASONABLE PRICE. The staff were very nice and helpfull.,

THE ENSUITE HAD NO SHOWER,ONLY A BATH.

This was a great place to stay and excellent value for money. The room was huge and it was wonderful to have a bath rather just a shower.
Having waiter service at breakfast was a nice touch and the food was fantastic too.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It is by no means a luxury hotel and certainly has some tired edges but if you are looking for decent accommodation at a good price this is recommended.

No obscured glass in bathroom. Curtains in bathroom only had 3 hooks each side. No remote control to TV - no Radio. Old looking furnishing. Bedside cabinet had front veneer missing - brown marks where glue had been. I would not recommend this hotel to others

We enjoyed our stay and would use your hotel again if staying in callender. We wanted a quiet break and that is what we got.
(99986902)

Friendly and helpful staff. Easy lift to floor

Traffic rattling the loose grid on the road outside
Anonymous (Young couple) 04 April 2007
The hotel is in need of a little renovation but the room was clean and the staff friendly. I found that hotel was very expensive for the standard of room.
(99067712)

Its central location in Callander with parking

The decor was a bit tatty, the bathroom was very basic with no window or shower and the toilet seat was broken.

Phil from Blaydon, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 31 October 2006
I booked this hotel because of the 8/10 website rating, however it was tired and dated on arrival. The check in and out procedure was prolonged, and at one point at check out had penned a note for the manager, which I attached to the keys to forward the bill. Just as I was about to drop into the key box, someone arrived to check me out.
The room was dated, and the shower took me back to my school days in the 1960/70's. It took a full 15 minutes to get hot water, which is surely unacceptable in the 21st century, certainly not what is required after a long day walking, when a swift hot shower will prevent aches etc. developing.
I'd like to know how the rating is 8/10!
(99922336)

Central location to the town and facilities

Room 101! Not expected at check-in; shower took 15 minutes before hot water appeared; waited almost 20 minutes in Reception to check out - surely a small bell would be helpful.

The room was big and there were plenty of drawers and wardrobe space.

It was right on a main road and Callander has a 'boy racer' problem. It was very hot but having the window open at night wasn't an option.
