We have stayed at the White Buck every year for the past 14 years and have seen it run under several previous owners. It was in need of some updating and it looks as though this is starting to happen under the Fuller's ownership.
The food is slightly high-priced for what it is as are the drinks but it remains a place we still enjoy going back to.
(107935815)

Our room was very comfortable and had recently been refurbished to a high standard. Good breakfast served efficiently.
Two lovely log fires and generally a relaxing atmosphere.

Only real disappointing aspect of our stay was that we had telephoned in advance to reserve a table for dinner. This was confirmed as #17 early in the evening but when we arrived in the dining room at the time of our booking, the table was already taken despite there being a reserved notice on it.

Very good, I have stayed at the White Buck Inn an a number of occasions and find the value for money and comfort of the bedrooms to be outstanding.
(107810710)

Excellent Value for money. Great facilities in the rooms. Teas, filter coffee, chocolate, bottled water and a bar of Dairy Milk chocolate.
Bathrooms are all newly refurbished, and full of the bits you would normally find in a hotel of much higher cost.

Breakfast a little too slow, even though there was only me to serve.

Cosy and comfortable. Very good food, slightly too much! Open fires. Many thoughtful little extras.

We would like to have known about the superior rooms and also about the three nights fo
two offer.

lovely food - beautiful location - lovely room well furnished

Good.

Welcoming, clean, comfortable.

Annoyed to find on arrival that our room was also routinely available for pets to sleep in. In the bathroom, if you hang your clothes on the hook there is nowhere left to hang a damp towel !!! Bizarre in a brand new bathroom.

A very pleasant stay. I've stayed before and would come back. Blessed with nice weather that just enhanced the pleasant, friendly, relaxed environment. Lovely food !
(97292258)

Nice room, very good food, made welcome by staff, lovely location

Bathroom window painted shut. Room dusty in places. Some of the jiggers of milk in room were out of date (yeuurkk!). Better guidance of what to do is required on the very busy Jazz Night (Thursday) as many customers were wandering around the tables not knowing what was available. Charged 50p for a phone call that I didn't make.

9 room hotel with some themed'ish comfortable large bar/lounge although to use as Hotel lounge felt you needed to buy drink. Would have been nice to know outside had scaffolding for redecorating outside but did not really detract from our stay. Overall good and welcoming.

The hotel is in a very nice location, the staff was friendly and helpful.
The food served in the bar restaurant was good and the selection of real beers in the bar was very good.
The room had obviously recently been redecorated and wasnt quite finished. The renovation work being carried out on the outside of the building meant there was scaffolding up to both windows of the room. It would have been nice to have been forwarded of this.
The bed was a bit small and the room being on the top floor had a slopping roof which could be awkward for a tall person...
We would recommend this hotel and go back again.
(97236406)

Location, the friendly and helpfulstaff, good food and dinks in the bar.

To many stairs and the bed too small.

Excellent location in the middle of the New Forest. Nice room - appears to have been recently redecorated. Good choice of food available in the evening from the bar.
(97692240)

Excellent location, nice room - recently redecorated, good choice of food.

Couldn't check in early - but this may have been due to a new carpet being fitted at the time?
Anonymous (Mature couple) 05 March 2008
Although the decorators were working when we arrived they stopped for the weekend and in my opinion the new decor was an improvement on the old. Reception was efficient, friendly and calm and we were in our room in no time. All meals were good with plenty of well cooked food every time, in fact breakfast lasted us until dinner. I felt an extra member of staff in the bar and dinning areas in the afternoons would have kept these areas tidier between lunch and dinner. Although all the staff were extreemly friendly and the location was superb we would hesitate to stay at this Inn again for the simple reason of allowing dogs in the bar where food is also served, the explanation we were given for this situation did not convince us, we are not dog lovers.

The restaurant food was very average. The hotel is about a mile from the main part of the village which is walkable during the day but not at night - you could easily fall over and injure yourself.

Room was spacious but a bit dark.

Only 4 television channels!

I would have liked to have been informed that the room was above the bar area and would be noisy. The so called award winning restaurant was just pub food and again was very noisy and also very cold. The proximity to Burley would have also been useful as it was a long walk.
(99471763)

The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable and a good shower.

The noise. The room was above the main bar and the noise went on until 1am in the morning. There was no blind at the bathroom window so we had to hang a bath towel over it. The whole place smelt of cigarettes and chips.

The White Buck is a large New Forest pub set in its own grounds. The bars and eating areas occupy all the downstairs. The reception desk is unmanned - you have to go into the bar. On Saturday night the pub was noisy and crowded, with A TV screen showing live sports and a busy slot machine. All the tables were full. Our room was in an attic, with a sloping ceiling and confined space. It looked tired and unclean. The central-heating was noisy and the curtains too thin, so we woke at first light. There was only one bath towel for 2 people. There was no plug for the sink. Service was offhand rather than bad - just take it or leave it. Despite many empty tables, at breakfast our waitress tried to make us sit in a dark spot next to the serving area because it was laid up. Breakfast itself had processed sausages, greasy fried bread and tinned mushrooms. A disappointing stay in a mediocre and rather grubby hotel. Never again!
(99112961)

Good location in the New Forest, close to many attractions.

The White Buck hasn't fully decided if it wants to be a country house hotel or just a pub serving food. Accommodation has a low priority.

The room was a good size with a lovley view (indian spice suite). P.S. If the tv does not work properly then push the a/d button on remote.

Overall a nice setting and pleasant little country inn, with good food, polite staff and high standard of cleanliness.
Hugely disappointing that the heating system was so noisy that it ruined my night
(99920167)

Clean and friendly. Food was also very good.

Central heating system is obviously very old and in need of major over-haul. It made a lot of noise all night through the radiators and kept me awake for most of it! Not good when you are attending an important client meeting in the morning!

The hotel was clean and welcoming. Excellent choice of food in the restaurant in the evenings. Service by bar and restuarant staff very good.

The first room offered although a double was small and in the roof of the hotel but on requesting a change of room there was no problem and the room them allocated was of a good standard.
PETER from DUNMOW, United Kingdom;GB (Other) 03 November 2006
If you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation in a simply delightful setting, this is the place to stay. The surrounding countryside is stunning and wild life abounds.
The manager is unwelcoming, but his wife is charming.
(99189082)

The room was clean and tidy although a tiny bit in need of refurbishment ( a 2 poster bed not 4!) it was reasonably comfortable.

The smell of stale food /tobacco in the downstairs hall.
j from broadstars, UNITED KINGDOM;GB (Mature couple) 26 October 2006
The facilities were adequate but not to the standard we had expected. The dining arrangements meant that meals had to be ordered at the bar rather than at the table. We found this a rather inflexible approach as choices had to be made upfront.

(3305204961)

The room was light and comfortable and quiet even though during our stay there was a Jazz night

We felt that the housekeeping persons could have been a bit more vigorous with a duster and the replacement of duff electric light bulbs. Sash cords on windows need replacing.
