Arrived late on Sunday night and check-in was quick and easy.

Third time I've stayed here this year, different room each time. Always clean and comfortable but, all 3 rooms (particularly bathrooms) in need of some TLC.

Staff all well trained and very helpful

Often had to go looking for someone to serve a drink at the bar.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 10 June 2008
Very easy to find.
Overall - pleasant to stay in, and good value.
Friendly staff - couldn't have been more helpful
Breakfast rates too high but there is a cinema complex 5 minutes walk away with various food options which you can use without too much inconvenience.
(97583444)

We arrived early - at mid-day, to be told that check in wasn't until 2pm.
We explained that we were going to a 50th birthday party only a couple of miles away (East Boldon), had travelled for a couple of hours and needed to get changed quickly. The receptionist then tried to find a room that had already been cleaned and prepared, and with the help of another helpful colleague found one close to reception as well. We were able to change and get to our party with the minimum of delay, thanks to your helpful receptionist.
It is lovely to deal with a receptionist who can see where help can be provided, instead of sticking to the rules and preventing us from checking in until 2pm. Well done!

The bathroom was pretty poor. It was virtually impossible to use the shower without it leaking - as it did - all over the bathroom floor. Tucking the shower curtain in, turning the water pressure down - still made taking a shower an irritation.
The full english breakfast rate was not acceptable to us - it's far too high. The McDonalds just down the road does great coffee at a much better rate!
Finally - the rate we paid for the room was £65 - but friends at the same party who had booked on line and over the phone at varying times had all been offered different rates - including £45, and £50, and £85 - for similar rooms! Unless potential for rates to vary are made clear at the time of booking, this is likely to be an irritant to potential customers.

Good access to surrounding area. Car Park.

Hotel in need of a big refurbishment. Breakfast Very Average.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 08 May 2008
For my needs the hotel was adequate although I did not sleep well due to very uncomftable bed and pillows. pillows felt that they had not been renewed since the hotel opened. Fire alarm sounded at 6.30am and evacuation took place, I did not like the policy of allowing the guests back into their rooms prior to the arrival of the Fire service to confirm everything was ok.

Shower was powerful

Fire Alarm sounding at 6.30am. Pillows very thin and uncomftable

The hotel was easy to find, being close to a main road, but the location was quiet.
The hotel met my expectations, and was as described on the web site.
The restaurant food was very good.
Buffet-style cooked breakfast was also to a higher standard than most self-service offerings.
I would be pleased to stay here again, but would stipulate an upstairs room so that I could feel safe leaving the windows open.
(97294537)

Easy to find, excellent restaurant, and in particular the polite and friendly hotel staff. The bedroom was not too hot, as is often the case in hotels.

The bathroom was a bit dated, and the shower rather poor.
The downstairs windows could not be securely latched in a part-open position. (I like to sleep with the windows open a bit, but not on the ground floor).

I'd stay in a better quality of hotel

The parking

It was a bit shabby and dated
Denise from Derbyshire, GB (Solo business traveller) 24 February 2008
For the price paid this hotel was absolutely fine and the staff were very helpful. It is however looking a little tired and some parts are in need of refurbishment. The restaurant at night was very cold and the food was average, the menu choice could have been better after a long drive. Overall I was satisfied

Check in experience a nightmare. waited over 1 hr to get to a room.
Luckily Denise on reception showed some caring & ability to get me a room. The two free drinks for the messing about were gratefully recieved.
Food very mediocre in restaurant.

Easy to find, plenty of parking.

I arrived before 10pm and was told we could order hot food. However at 9.50pm was told the chef had gone home. Sandwich was ok, but salad was very brown.

The Carvery food was very overcooked as it had obviously been cooked a long while and left warming.I felt that the general standard of the Hotel was no better than a Motel which would have been less than half the cost.

not a great deal

I have stayed at theis hotel on several occasions. Not because it is a great hotel but because it is reasonably priced (£70/night) and the location for my business is good. The accomodation is average for the cost of the room, the bathrooms are poor and desperatly need refurbishing.

Although the general appearance of the hotel was perfectly adequate, the room was shabby and there were several failures of housekeeping in the room.
The fridge still had four bottle of beer (one opened!) from previous occupant, the tissue box was not replaced when it was empty, the bath mat was removed but not replaced, the TV only worked on channels 1-5 (not the full range of advertised channels), the lighting was harsh (flourescent).
The cost of the breakfasts was incredibly high, and the room rate itself was much higher than the quality and cleanliness of the accommodation warrant.

Anonymous (Young couple) 20 May 2005
Rooms seemed fairly small, there was mildew on the bathroom ceiling, a strange odour around (probably due to the number of over 70's staying at the hotel), and the decor was quite poor. not bad for the online booking price, but would have felt we had been ripped off if we had paid the telephone booking price!

Everything was fine and the staff weren't too smarmy, I hate false over the top american style hotel staff but appreciate good manners. Also the staff didn't talk with an annoying Australian inflection which drives me nuts. They do it in hotels down south a lot. Nice hotel

In general the hotel was of a good quality. It was a little bit far from Sunderland but this was all we could book at the time and a cab fare to the centre of Sunderland was only £8. A couple of local restaurants and bars are within a 5 minute walk. It was certainly adequate enough for the purpose.

Acceptable modern group hotel.

Breakfast - toast not fresh or crisp, eggs overcooked, black pudding like leather - generally all pre prepared and unappetising. Empty pepper pot for room service and again for breakfast. Does nobody check? Newspaper ordered did not arrive. Seemed to be common occurence.
