Highly recommended. Felt the hotel represented value for the price and was made to feel very comfortable. Would have no hestiation recommending the Sparth House Hotel to friends and colleagues.

Very friendly staff. Good breakfast.

Noise in room from function. We were offered a different room, however, as we went to a different function we did not think it would effect us. Hotel heating too warm.

Very friendly staff at check in, and in general when passing by, made me feel quite welcome. Although the rooms are quite small, they don't feel at all cramped. The hotel was easy to find and with off road parking.

Clean and comfortable

Able to hear noise and voices clearly from the function room below, and in the corridor and room next door.

Good breakfasts!

Avoid the Cajun Spiced chicken in the restaurant! It had to be sent back

This is a good example of a well run family hotel that focuses on its customers rather than trying to squeeze the last penny of profit from every square inch of space.

My room was fitted with the most extraordinary inlaid mahogany furniture (bed, wardrobes, table, dressing table and button-backed settles on either side of the fireplace). The staff told me it came from a stateroom on a sister ship of the Titanic.

The bathroom was very small with very little space for a lady to lay out her toiletries etc. Pillows were not comfortable - hard, lumpy man-made fibre. The room was very warm which was my fault as I didn't find the radiators until I pulled back the curtains in the morning.

Good food, courteous staff, pleasantly decorated public rooms

Very small double room, less than 3ft between bed and wall/bed and door and the excessively loud wedding disco immediately below the room which we had NOT been warned was taking place.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 25 October 2006
The room was far inferior to many we have stayed in for much less! There was a huge noise problem in our room as it was over the function room, which there is a mention of on the website to be fair, BUT the major disturbances were other guests charging up and down corridors, shouting, swearing, banging on doors all night until 6am!!! No-one from the hotel was available to control this as the night porter was apparently fully occupied serving residents all night long! In desperation, my husband had to go out and deal with the situation himself which some people would feel unable to do as it meant confronting drunken guests who could've turned nasty.
Staff on checkout were extremely apologetic and very nice but it doesn't make up for a sleepless night.
(99635362)

The obvious convenience as we were attending a wedding at the hotel.
Breakfast was fine and the staff were very helpful.

The double room was far too small for any comfort even for one night -couldn't open the very small wardrobe door unless you moved a chair! Hairdryer in an impossible place. Shower door broken. Very poor sound insulation, every time anyone opened/closed a door on the landing the room shook, and every toilet flush was audible.

Sparth House was a splurge for us, but we feel that the experience was worth the cost. The house provided a comfortable and handy base as we carried on with our activities in the area. That was apparently so for many others, as it was a very busy place during our entire stay.
(3304362301)

Sparth House is an old building with both the charms and shotcomings that come with age. We greatly enjoyed staying in surroundings with that atmosphere. What made it most enjoyable, however, was the attitude of the staff, from top to bottom. They were friendly, accommodating, and dignified. They cared how we were getting along over and above the calls of their respective duties. The food was excellent.

The cost was high for us, but we realistically can see that such service and comfort have to cost some serious money. A pet peeve of mine is the additional cost of wireless connectivity in hotels which do claim a high level of service. I know that some very economical places manage to provide wi-fi without an extra charge, and I would love to see this become more the norm.

The hotel was clean and bright and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was very small and only had a sky light. The noise travelled loudly through the floors and walls. We upgraded to a suite for one night, and if we were to stay at the hotel again, we would pay for a suite again. These were of high standard and were much better than the small rooms.
(3304185727)

The hotel was clean and bright and the staff were friendly and helpful

We found the small bedrooms to be over priced and perhaps the cost should be addressed.
Robert from Crawley, United Kingdom;GB (Solo business traveller) 01 April 2006
The hotel was extremely well decorated and in a style that matched the ambience of the building with everything was very nicely presented. There was only one thing that I really missed, and that was a proper shower in the suite, there was only a hand held shower provided and no curtain or cubical which would have really made the room 100%. Worn and loose door furniture was also a problem.
(3304347596)

On arrival I was offered an upgrade to the suite, which was extremely spacious and very comfortable. Very comfortable furniture and arrangement which gave me the opportunity to totally relax.

Although lovely the rooms are small, but , that would not stop me staying there again.

The staff were very quick effecient and friendly.A taxi was booked in seconds .An old worlde atmosphere of a relatively small hotel.Everything was clean and very comfortable.Huge sofas in the bar area made it very comfortable.Definitely recommended . Unlike the chain hotels this one had character.I would imagine it in summer to be a beautiful place as there is a large area behind the hotel for sitting and drinking.

Overall, very good. The very pleasant and efficient staff and management, pretty grounds and good service overcome any minor faults. The hotel was quick to phone after my online reservation to clarify availability of rooms, etc. As long as you are aware (and it's not kept a secret) that a saturday night might mean a wedding party and Elvis impersonator (!) under your standard bedroom until 12.30, you should enjoy your stay. Everything you could require at a reasonable price was present - and the standard of service exceeds many, far more expensive hotels. All of our party (from 20s through to 80 years) enjoyed their stay. Above all else, the staff are welcoming and all too happy to help, and they would make any hotel a good place to stay.
(2642948)

The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful, making what could be an ordinary hotel a positive experience. The standard rooms were clean and well kept (although, as warned by the hotel's website, these were subject to loud noise from the function room below - but as we were expecting this, and were ourselves celebrating, it wasn't a problem. But you should book one of the other rooms if want to be asleep early).

Perhaps more TV channels! More powerful showers.

We did not know the room was attic conversion, so we had no view. However we were only there for 1 night to go to a function so was not important to us but it might be to others. There are 2 or 3 pubs within walking distance.

The hotel and staff were lovely but the breakfast was disappointing. The two rooms we booked were lovely and clean but they should not of been the same price, If I was to stay again I would want to see which room I was allocated first before spending on what appeared to be a basic double room and not an executive.
