Apart from the bathroom being pink (!!!!) our stay was very pleasant and I'm sure should the opportunity arise, we'll be back.

Friendly staff and good value for money. We were upgraded to a double en-suite at no extra cost. Great.

TV remote didn't work.

I would certainly never stay there again.
The place needs a complete makeover,if I had booked in for more than one night,i would have gone elsewhere after the first night.
Basically,the place is a dump!

Room was fairly spacious

Where do I start ?...run down hotel, barley adequate service and the carvery and breakfast were poor to say the least...eg. No coffee or tea available at breakfast and no-one to ask for any ?

Adequate for the night's accommodation that we required.
Not perfect, but clean and relaxed atmosphere.
No particular grumbles.

Friendliness of staff. Comfortable bed. Crisp, clean linen.

No hot water in room, except for shower. No plug for sink. No heating in bathroom.

I would stay there again because the staff and the food made up for the very poor state of the bedroom. We were visiting relatives so did not need to stay in the hotel apart from sleeping etc. It is a lovely old building and I imagine it is great for functions. I would recommend the hotel but would make sure I told people that it is very out of date regarding facilities.

The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent

The actual room was desperate for updating, although clean was very shabby
Michael from Reading, GB (Group of adult friends) 11 July 2007
Although the accomodation was two star and quite adequate, the staff and overall experience I would put at four star standard

Low relative cost, friendly staff.

Tired and in need of refurbishment. There are plenty of smarter hotels in the area for much the same cost.

A lot of road noise from the A6

Excellent value for money. The carvery is not to be missed and the breakfast, which was included in my price, was magnificent!

I was relieved when I finally woke to find that I was still alive and took a morning walk as far as Stepping Hill to see if guests from other hotels cannot be so fortunate! It seemed that a police helicopter had been circling overhead during the night so I needed that brisk walk to wake me up. A very pleasant breakfast helped get me off to a good day's business.

I think that you should have a polan of the hotel showing the room and the fire escape route recommended. I was in Rm 42 and decided to see which route I should take to the Car Park. Because of the twists and turns involved I am sure that I would have suffered first degree burns if there had been a fire in the middle of the night with no lighting and other guests struggling to exit. I would have got a kiss of life at Stepping Hill A&E just up the road - but I may never have made it that far!
