Not very good at all
(107137985)

Parking was very inadequate, the room was next to the lift which kept us awake for most of the night, we should have been notified that the room was next to the lift, there were no clean tables at breakfast we had to sit at a table full of dirty pots and no-one asked us if we would like tea or coffee

Very good, beds could have been more comfortable.
(107190774)

A large clean room, with adequate facilities for a weekend break.
Friendly Staff, and a good breakfast. Good value for money. The hotel
is in an excellent position for the town and sea front.

The Hotel was magnificent in its heyday, but is now a little tired.
The beds werent too comfortable and the small window wouldnt open very wide.
Anonymous (Family with older children) 12 August 2008
Very good for our needs would stay again.
(108029664)

Hotel rooms that our party were allocated were very impressive, in need of a little attention but the size of the rooms was unbelievable.

It did not effect us directly but the language barrier between the foreign restaurant staff and more elderly visitors was a definite problem.

The building could benefit fron a lot of maintenance (Lose & creaking floors, Stiff locks making doors hard to close etc).
The bar staff and stocking requires complete overhaul (lots of lost sales etc).
Some of the waiting staff could do with some training but kitchen staff & evening food good.
The car parking requires a rethink with a tickt system linked to No of residents and the No of vehicles with residents having priority.

graham from lancashire, GB (Mature couple) 07 February 2008
my rrom was clean , large and welcoming.
the breakfast was excellent and the staff were great.
the hotel shows some signs of its age , but this is compensated for by other amenities.
had i paid the standard rrom rate i may have felt different , but iwas lucky enough to have got the room for 39 pounds.

Pros:-Good food. Comfortable lounge. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Decent bedroom.Public areas, toilets and bedrooms kept clean.
Cons:- Seating in lounge and dining room was well worn in places and could do with renewing. Charging guests for parking.

A really enjoyable short stay at this Hotel, which we all wished could have been a lot longer. Just a small point - had I known there was a Hair Dryer in our bedroom, I wouldn't have bothered taking my own.
(3304857267)

A really good quality Hotel with a very Royal feel about it.

When going to the dining room for breakfast we were asked if we were with the Coach Party, when we replied No, we were told that we would have to take a seat outside and wait until all the Coach Party had had their breakfasts first. Lots of other guests were also being turned away. In all honesty I thought it was pretty disgusting.

Allison from Winchester, United Kingdom;GB (Family with young children) 17 March 2006
Although marketed as a good hotel, this hotel has obviously gone past its heyday! The style of the room is old fashioned and a lot of equipment did not work - heating in the main bedroom, Television in the interleading bedroom. However, the staff are good and helpful and try to accomodate your requirements. A good position in the main high street of Southport but parking is limited and is charged.

I was a bet way about booking over the internet, but no need, everythin went very smoothly. We booked a family room and were surprised and pleased to have a room with two good sized separate bedrooms, plus bathroom! Very spacious, beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. Staff very pleasant, polite and helpful; children and dog made to feel welcome. Lovely breakfast, despite hotel being busy and all for the bargain price of £45!! Hotel is a beautiful building, which has been very grand in it's day and still has loads of character. If you like sterile, featureless accommodation - don't bother coming here!
(3304184106)

Beautiful building, lots of original glass, fabulous ballroom, friendly staff, super two bedroomed accommodation, very nice breakfast and great price!

Lighting in the bedrooms was a bit odd, as only table lamps and no ceiling lights. Didn't really bother us though. Bedrooms were a bit hot, we did manage to switch the heating off, though!

Convienience as attending a function at the hotel. Room size was good

Decor and bedding
Anonymous (Young couple) 21 September 2005
A room with a view was not expected, but neither was a slate roof right outside.Blocking the whole of the window.Though Southport is known to be a favourite for the elderly. The room decor and furniture was pre-historic.Dirty towels.

The staff at this hotel did more that was asked of them assisted us with elderly relatives and were a joy to speak to nothing was to much trouble

The only area for improvment would be to have another lift in the main lounge , at times we had to wait quite a while to get to our floor.

I was a bit apprehensive as I have usually booked direct with the hotel or chain on the phone or Internet. The booking was great & I will use Active agin shortly & hope they can provide such a good family deal for us & our 2 children under 16.

The spacious Family room which consisted of 2 Interconnecting rooms plus the excellant family value.

decor needs updating but overal good for the size of this large hotel.

perhaps some games/activity packs for the children, the hotel seemed to cater for elderly customers only

two bedrooms in family room

cleanliness particularly in bar area
Anonymous (Mature couple) 26 August 2005
Generally good but would be improved by training of staff to achieve higher custome service standards.
(2629822)

Location, car parking facilities, breakfast.

Staff performance standards were variable; some were very good others were slipshod particularly in the bar area. The bedroom was very warm and possibly consideration should be given to fitting portable air conditioning appliances in the affected bedrooms.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 24 August 2005
Pleasant enough, although maybe somewhat overpriced - room and food no real improvement over a 'travel lodge' type hotel or B&B at half the room rate.
(2606771)

Central location and easy to park near.

Some areas of the hotel are a bit 'jaded'
LYNDA from HALIFAX, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 24 August 2005
WE HAD AN EXCELLENT TIME THE HOTEL WAS IN A VERY GOOD POSITION THE ROOM NICE AND FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF.OUR ONLY COMPLAINT WAS ON BOTH NIGHTS THERE WERE WEDDINGS AND THE NOISE FROM THE MUSIC AND DJ KEPT US AWAKE OTHER THAN THAT THE STAY WAS EXCELLENT AND WE WOULD DEFINATLY STAY AGAIN.
(2656104)

The friendliness of the staff and the old fashioned charm of the place.

FOOD! maybe a choice of something different from meat and two veg theme.
Kerry from Grimsby, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 18 August 2005
The hotel was a beautiful old building, very clean and well run. staff were helpfull.
(2632303)

The hotel had alot of character and was very well situated in Southport for all the local attractions

It was quite expensive they could perhaps do a discount if staying more than one night?, and the breakfast although plenty of it was rather tasteless.

Staff a)at breakfast there was no-one to greet us at the door and show us to a table, and no-one asked if we wanted tea/coffee until we were halfway through the meal.
b)our bedroom keys failed to work on the 3rd night. The reception staff reprogrammed them but with no apology or explanation.
