Hotel was clean, staff were friendly. breakfast was excellent and hotel was close to where we wanted to be.

Staff performance wasn't up to standards...poor communication between kitchen and bar staffs.

Overall we had a very pleasant stay with excellent food.I did find the bar prices excessive and so I did not use hotel bar.The staff were very pleasant and always treated us older guests politely.This always helps us to enjoy a stay.I must point out that I booked an offer stay i.e. we had free dinners thrown in and this did make it more economically viable for us.I would still recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to visit the Peak District as it is an area of outstanding beauty and this hotel is ideally suited to explore the area. It was comfortable but small.It was relatively quiet but the location and views were superb.

There had been some shoddy work done on decoration and the sink leaked away the water before you could wash.The leak was repaired on the second time of asking.As an example of the shoddy work the door to the bathroom had been shortened but left with the veneer splintered badly, not even sanded smooth.When I pointed this out they said the rooms were going to be redecorated.One of the TV channels had been age barred but it was Sky News!!.The staff were unable to correct this and I did not press the matter as it was only mildly irritating.

booking process was easy enough, but on arrival things initially were poor, having booked a twin smoking room we were put in a double non-smoking (room 126 ), on changing rooms, we were put in a smoking room but still a double (room 206)which my wife found very claustrophobic and like being in a coffin (large overhang over bed), we were then put back in our original room on the premise that there were no more rooms available (both these rooms incidentally had poor inward looking views)eventually having complained yet again we were put in room 139 which was was excellent, and what we thought we had booked in the first place (although there was no ashtray !!)this short break was booked as a surprise for my wife, who is suffering from secondary cancer, and she found the initial fiasco very distressing - i could have lived without the smoking facility, but the twin room was essential for us to get the best night's sleep possible (my wife is very restless and in pain at night), once everything was resolved to our satisfaction we did actually enjoy the stay, and found the food/facilities/service/location very good, and whereas the experience would not necessarily put us off returning, it has certainly discourage me from ever booking on line again (3304180464)

at the third attempt, room was excellent /clean with excellent views
