Hallgarth Manor Country Hotel & Restaurant

I think the Hallgarth could do much better even without the expense of refurbishment. A happy team and a willingness to do that little extra would certainly go a long way both in reception and the breakfast room. The whole experience for me was like going back to the 70's where anything would do - well sadly today that is not good enough if repeat business is high on the agenda. When I told my local business colleagues where I had stayed they did not think very highly of the hotel either. Such a shame as it could be a very nice venue. (107266301)

Location is delightful although I was only there one night so did not really get a full appreciation of the setting.

I travel a lot and prefer to stay in quiet country hotels rather than the main chains, so I was looking forward to staying at the Hallgarth. However on entering the lobby my initial reaction was that the hotel looked very very tired. My initial impressions were not helped by the brisk and not particularly warm reception process either. My room also needed some TLC as the decor is very dated and the room furniture was a little worse for wear. The breakfast was okay but again just lacking a little something that one would expect. On leaving the hotel the bill was paid but again with no warmth or any discussion on the stay.

Most areas of this lovely old house need decorating,everything is looking worn.

The building, location and the staff made stay fine, just a shame that the interface with the most used facilities, the room and evening catering was of a lesser standard. (107263807)

Setting and grounds excellent and peaceful - Bar and Catering Staff, when you could find them, were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts fine and well staffed.

Rooms a bit run down and shower poor - Beds most uncomfortable. Bar meal not value for money. Less volume and a little thought to how it was prepared and presented would enhace the experience. Coffee some of the worst I have ever had at a hotel.

The Hotel is situated in a quite and open area, we did not feel very confined. The Manor house was tasetfully decorated and not spoilt by a few modern touches. A very relaxed atmosphere. We would have preferred more information on places to visit locally (not much literature displayed). Oue visit was in December 2007 which was very cold. The room was warm, cosy and clean, although tea making facilities were poor in quantiies. But saying this you do have a Cafetiere with coffee, which was rather nice to have. Breakfast was quite adeqauate with a good choice of Cereals and a hearty cooked breakfast to follow. A very clean and relaxed atmosphere. We would strongly recommend this hotel. (97890415)
