The experience was more than just an over-night room. The atmosphere and interesting surroundings made it much more enjoyable.

Old country house/mansion in mature gardens. Retained most of it's character from yesteryear. Splendid ceiling and furnishings in the dining room. Breakfast was excellent and staff were most attentive. Apparently Royalty have stayed here in the past when the hotel was the family home of one of the wealthy brewing families, whose business was in the area.

Needs a little tidy-up here and there. The first thing one notices at reception are lots of loose wires and sockets on the walls. Maybe some on-going work, but looked a bit shabby as a first impression.

Impressive building - particularly when seen from the inside.
Quiet surroundings and nicely landscaped gardens.

Breafast is not good value for money, unless you pre-book it the night before to get a discounted price.
If you haven't got much time to spare, make sure that you order your cooked breakfast as you arrive at the restaurant.
No WI-FI.
Choice of TV channels rather limited.

Very impressive looking hotel in a quiet, green area. Check in desk was fine and the overall standard of accomodation was what you'd expect from this class of hotel (apart from the lack of lift which was not great for those staying on the second floor).
Rooms were OK, if a tad small, bathroom was a nice size, just a bit pink...
However three things spoiled our stay there:
The sound insulation between rooms was pretty bad - I was woken up at 3:30 in the morning by guests in the next room finally going to bed (although I don't think they were being excessively loud), and again early in the morning by doors slamming along the corridor - I'd really recommend fixing something to all doors which prevents them from slamming...
There was some kind of function being held at the hotel that night. I don't expect hotels to turn down that kind of booking, but this was really invasive and we weren't able to find anywhere in the hotel which wasn't completely overrun by it. Made us feel a bit like second class citizens...
The evening meal was average at best - certainly not worth the inflated prices the hotel was charging.

The Ramada Newton Solney Hotel was very impressive and the staff attentive. It is well situated for visits to Burton on Trent and Lichfield. The room we had was quite small. The room did not have a shower which was a disappointment. It had a bath tap operated shower adaptor but when lifted up, there was insufficient water pressure for it to function. Other than that I can recommend the hotel.

The room was really quite small.
The window catch did not work, therefore the window could not be fixed open.
There was no proper shower in the room. It had a shower head, but no fixing on the wall to have a shower. I hoped to have a shower by holding the shower rose, but this was not possible as the shower pipe was not long enough and when it was raised there was insufficient water pressure to allow the shower to function. I do like a shower in the mornings and was very disappointed when I was unable to do so. I thought that in a Ramada hotel such basic facilities would be provided. Considering the cost of the nights stay (

The hotel has great potential in a beautiful part of Derbyshire. The staff were very helpful and the food was of excellent quality. It is a great pity that poor housekeeping let the side down, although I appreciate that our experience was most probably a soletary example.
(99691143)

The Manager and staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfast selection was excellent and dinner was very good.

The reason for such a low rating was that it was neccessary to have the bed changed because of a spotted stain. Secondly, the overhead bed light did not work and it was very difficult to read in bed.
David from Campbell, United States;US (Mature couple) 26 November 2006
Overall the stay was pleasant and apart from the items mentioned above we had no complaints. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The fact that there is no elevator could have impacted our decision to stay!
(99695342)

Location was very good and had an old world charm that was nice.

There was a lack of plug points near the bed head. Both of us have sleep apnea which requires the use of a CPAP to aid breathing. Because of the lack of plug points near the bed head we had to sleep upside down and use the plug points by the desk. The beds were very hard.

It would have been nice to be informed of the wedding party. It wasn't a problem, but maybe a room further away from the disco would have been better?

Good internet booking facility, poor internet directions as it assumed I was travelling North South and therefore took me substantially out of my way. Made up for travel frustrations on arrival to well presented country style hotel with friendly reception. Had a great dinner, well served and a comfortable evening. Last impression was poor as breakfast cost was exorbitant. Will return for an evening and dinner but not breakfast.

Well kept nice ambience country tpe hotel. Meal was excellent and would return just for the restaurant

Breakfast was hugely overpriced.

A nice hotel in nice surroundings. Staff were excellent. Management need to be conscious of the system of allocation of rooms. Paying top price for the area,I expect more space in the room where you can work or relax
(3304503507)

For an Executive Room it was very small although I subsequently learned that there were better sized rooms. Unfortunately none of these were offered even though the hotel was not full.

The evening meal on the saturday was very poor and ruined the stay. The main course took 1hr 40 mins to arrive, the bread was brought after the main course and a bottle of wine ordered never arrived. There was a function on and clearly there was not enought staff and priority was given to the function - poor, wont go again and probably wont use ramada again as a result

I would have liked to see a picture of the room as that is where we prefered to spend our time. I had a fabulous time although my partner didn't think it was the best service.

The food was very beautifully done. The toilets were all very clean.

The room, it didn't get much light in the day, and compared with the rest of the building it seemed a little dull.

The hotel is a lovely building in a beautiful setting. The hotel was grossly understaffed although the staff at breakfast, while run off their feet, tried very hard to please and apologised for the delay in finding a table. We both felt that the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice including a wonderful fruit table. We both felt that the hotel is penny pinching, for example there were only two tea bags and two sachets of coffee in the room and no biscuits (welcome after a long journey). Many hotels now have an optional fast check out which in view of the staff shortage would save a lot of time both for the customers and for the receptionists. We booked a taxi but this was forgotten probably due to the number of residents queuing in the reception area trying to book in. How about a white board with marker pens (different colour for each receptionist) to quickly write requests which can be sorted after the rush is over.
(2790513)

The setting of the hotel was fantastic.

Reception was very slow because it was understaffed. Both check in and check out were VERY slow
Gary from Bromley, United Kingdom;GB (Solo leisure traveller) 18 September 2005
A perfectly adequate hotel with clean & tidy rooms. The breakfast was above average but had little to differentiate it from its competition.
(2726601)

Room was clean & tidy, similar in standard to competitors. Breakfast was freshly cooked & to order, better than the usual buffet fare.

Some of the decor was looking a little tired (light switch surround worn down, bathroom door handly wobbly etc. Receptionist could have been more welcoming.

This being an old house turned into an hotel ,the rooms are somewhat smaller than a more modern hotel. Not all rooms have a bath , so do check if you prefer one.
The restaurant meals in the evening are excellent with a good choice available and the setting in an oak panelled room contains lots of atmosphere.
(2372729)

The grounds were very well kept & pleasant.
The food in the restaurant in the evening was excellent.

The breakfast waiters need more training. They seemed unsure of what they were were supposed to do & had difficulty in interpreting guests English & their various requests.

Whether the breakfast was inclusive/ price of breakfast. We would not stay in this hotel again, nor would we consider staying in other Ramada hotels.
(2144642)

WE enjoyed the mature building and period features.

The receptionist lost the key and then thought that it was our fault. The room had many cobwebs and needed updating for the price charged. The breakfast was poor value for money.

The bedroom was not aired well and the bedding smelt stale.

The house ,especially 1st floor landing , and gardens were lovely & the staff were friendly and efficient. It would have been a good break but for a flood into the lounge bar and the fire alarm going off which meant a longish wait outside . These things happen but it would have softened the inconvenience if a voucher for a drink or small discount had been offered as compensation.A chance to upgrade the booking from room only to B & B when checking in would be helpful.

Overall disappointed given the write up and how the hotel looks from the outside. The restaurant was the biggest disappointed especially since the meal was expensive compared to quality. I travel extensively on business and it was purporting to be high class whereas it was very mediocre.
The staff who looked after the bar/lounge however were great and very helpful.
(1422239)

Good parking, roomy, nice bar/lounge facility

Room had a dusty/damp smell as if it hadn't been aired. Disappointed with quality of food in main dining room versus cost.
