Very Good (107801784)

positive comments The hotel was one of the best hotels I have been to, in that it felt like home from home
negative comments The shower head would not stay in place, I had to have one hand on the shower head at the same time as having a shower, the bed was hard, and when I came down in the morning the man at the desk was asleep and making noses in his sleep, which I had to go back to my room and read the morning papers in the room

As a 1 off special evening out the whole experience was disgusting to the point where we left the same evening. (107189775)

positive comments Pleasant staff
negative comments We were supposed to be in an executive room but was akin to a childs playroom with pictures of kids horses painted everywhere and very tired , not furniture inline with the period of the hotel, worn out wardrobe which had been dubbed to look antique, no mini bar and food that for the price was undercooked and overpriced.

Good (107226733)

positive comments Dinner and service were excellent
negative comments Breakfast was well cooked, what there was of it, one rasher of bacon with two poached eggs. The toast was burnt and the selection of fresh fruit was poor.

Check-in was not quite as smoothe as would have hoped for. Arrived 1.5 hours early and did not expect to have access to accommodation. However was advised that our room would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Room did not become available until 3.10pm. This was not a problem. All other aspects of our stay were very enjoyable. Cooked breakfast was excellent. (97769043)

positive comments Standard of accommodation was very good. However, lighting in the bedroom was not sufficient.
negative comments As above. Experienced a power cut in the middle of the night.

The staff were extremely helpful and provided better bulbs and an extra lamp. It was very difficult indeed to get anyone to answer the telephone although when one finally did get through, room service was quick and efficient. The dinner menu was might have been improved by one or two simpler dishes. The wine list was impressive. It was unfortunate that you had a function on as raucous laughter from the room adjacent spoiled the nice atmosphere in the pretty dining room. (97625535)

positive comments It was a large comfortable room, like staying in a private house.
negative comments The lighting was hopeless as it was impossible to read by the bedside lamps and there was only one other lamp in the room.

Overall I would recommend this hotel as it is a lovely place to stay. The evening meal was well worth the price even if the drinks in the bar beforehand were a little expensive. Staff were very friendly, informative and welcoming. The only downside was the heat in the bedrooms. I recommend that you bring a fan with you if you intend to stay during the summer months. (99774044)

positive comments The building and grounds were beautiful. The room was very spacious & comfortable with a lovely view.
negative comments The room was very warm as was the restaurant downstairs. I dread to think how hot it would be in July/August.

Cannot comment on the usual standard of dinner or lunch as we arrived on the evening of Christmas Day and only stayed one night. Instead we had the buffet meal that was on offer that evening, which was excellent. Room was quiet and bed comfortable. (99375782)

positive comments Lovely, characterful room, with old wooden beams yet modern facilities. Comfortable bed.
negative comments Could have done with more artificial light in the room when dark outside.

the reception staff were excellent friendly and efficient-we had booked a table for 7.30 in the restaurant and sat in the bar( as one of our party of four smoked )we were talking business and having a drink.-the head waiter came in at 7.45 and said your table is ready..we said sorry but it was only 7.45 and he said yes but i like to get people seated..which did put us off a bit..he then recomended an excellent wine so we sort of forgave him..the service and food were excellent..really top class.thank you.we will return (3305136287)

We were looking for a place to stay overnight before touring castles down in Kent, and the hotel was perfect. It was such a beautiful place in a wonderful setting- allowing us to relax after leaving London. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. I would love to come back again soon! (3305028248)

positive comments It was such a beautiful place and great care was given to every detail. There wasn't anything about it I didn't like.
negative comments I guess if there's one thing that I didn't like it would be that I work out every day and might have liked a weight room of sorts to work out in. As it was summer I went jogging, but in the winter, it might be nice to have an indoor option.

It was a 30th anniversary celebration for two. Surfed the internet for country house hotels and happened to find this one, I was looking for something to sightsee in the area. Leeds Castle was nearby, it was perfect. There are many villages in the area for that 15th-16th century pint of ale. Our dinner in the restaurant truly made it special, elegant and delicious. Had one young man as head waiter, his attention to service was excellent. Staff at reception were very kind to help you plan your day, the young man attending the bar downstairs was very nice. I would highly recommend to stay here for that special something in your life. I will do so once again in the near future. Do take the upgraded rooms, well worth it. (3304990832)

positive comments The room was great, 4 poster bed, air con unit as it was extreme summer conditions outside, champagne upon arrival & flowers delivered as was requested. Beautiful bathroom and dining hall for our later evening meal.
negative comments Cannot claim anything was wrong

negative comments Check-in was at 3pm, which is later than usual, but when we tried to check-in we were told that our room woukld not be ready for another half an hour. It was a hot day, and the room was extremely hot, with no air conditioning, very little ventilation, and not even a fan. We had to sleep with the windows open, but got very little sleep as the hotel location is near to the M20 and the Eurostar track, and as a result it was very noisy.

The hotel has two categories of room - the cheaper ones are attic rooms where accomodation is cramped and headroom limited. I would not recommend these rooms, but the more expensive ones looked much better - pity I didn't book one! In addition, there is a large function room which sometimes hosts parties. I would recommend the rooms as far away from the function room as possible to avoid the noise. (3304688133)

positive comments Countryside location and an excellent restaurant.
negative comments We were given an attic room in which it was hard to stand up. The hotel is located close to the M20 motorway and the Eurostar railway, so is noisy. In addition, there was a large party at the hotel on one of our nights, adding even more noise to an already noisy environment.

A lovely hotel in splendid setting. We booked only a few days before, in a hurry, and didn't really know what we might get but were delighted with our room. The only (very slight) minus was our pre-dinner experience: my proper gin martini was not chilled at all so presumably hadn't been shaken with ice and had no olive - and we were disappointed that no nibbles were brought with our drinks, as we would have expected them at a hotel of this standard; also the drawing room where we had our drinks had a rather uncared-for atmosphere - a bit dusty. But this is just nit-picking about an otherwise extremely pleasant stay with very good evening meal and breakfast. (3304665273)

positive comments Very pleasant and comfortable room; spacious. Good bathroom with superb shower (over bath). Tea and coffee making facilities which are always welcome; complimentary bottled water.
negative comments No complaints at all.

The room was not ready at check in (4.30pm) but reception staff were apologetic and offered complimentary drinks. The open fire and papers in reception were a good distration. I did call the hotel before hand to check our room allocation and was informed rooms were allocated upon arrival. I noticed however that people were checking in after our arrival and were allocated rooms in the main house. We were allocated a room (Adam) in one of the cottages which was quite small and dark. Being an old building, the floor in the room above creaked when it was occupied and the walls were also thin. You could hear people talking, walking around, even using the toilet. I did not have a good night's sleep! The bathroom had poor lighting, a very small bath and the shower pressure was non existant. My overall impression was that the cottage room was not up to the standard of a 4 star hotel and not at all like the rooms shown in their brochure. We requested to be moved the following morning to the front of the main house. The bedroom (Gilt) and bathroom were far superior to the last, much larger, lighter and quieter. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. Dinner was fantastic with a comprehensive wine list. All staff were attentive and courteous. I would book to stay here again, however, I would ensure I was allocated a room in the front of the main house, which made our stay all the more memorable. (3304488928)

We had a lovely stay at Chilston Park, overall very good, lovely food, very nice drawing room to have drinks and relax in the evening, lovely grounds. Some disappointment with the room, it was very hot with no temperature control and when we opened the window we had very noisy machinery outside, i think it was the air con system ironically! The dinner was very good although the extras for coffee, wine and some dishes did build up to make it expensive. The menus needed re-printing as were looking a bit tired! Breakfast was not inlcuded and as it was rather expensive we did not have it. Overall a very enjoyable stay. (3304543440)

positive comments Beautiful country house hotel, lovely grounds, very good food.
negative comments Poor temperature control in room, noisy with window open. Breakfast not included and expensive. Our room was not in the main house which was not clear when booking.

The prices at the bar are astonomical, particularly as we were there for 12 hours for a wedding and had no other means of buying drinks. Breakfast was only as good as a motorway service station and did not befit the style of accommodation and did not live up to our expectations of a sophisticated finish to the weekend. The service for the wedding dinner was not good enough as the tables were not cleared between courses, and we had to stack the dishes to enable us to receive the next course. (The food, however, was divine) The same thing happened at breakfast the next morning when we felt like we were on a cheap package holiday. The staff though, were otherwise polite and friendly, although it seemed that they were all very young and lacked guidance. Could not say that the 'service' during the weekend was anything special or had the wow factor. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful, and a little bit of attention to the service side would enhance the magic of such a wonderful venue. (2443149)

My stay at the Chilston Park will be remembered for the excellent accommodation, service and facilites. Unfortunately, however, it will also be remembered for the very high bar tariff. (2337890)

I would have liked to have known more about the amenities of the hotel - we were surprised to find the comnfortable lounges and excellent grounds, and would have liked to have planned to make better use of them, probably with a longer stay. (2322493)

positive comments Exquisite good taste - the hotel exuded calm and tranquility; it was a joy to be there. The service was exemplary from all of the staff all of the time. We felt completely welcomed, and all the staff were courteous at a level which is very rare these days. This in itself will be a strong reason why we shall want to return.
negative comments The noise from the air conditioning was a problem - we had to ask to be moved from the room we were allocated, and the following morning we were woken, in the second room by the noise.

I had researched this accommodation on internet before booking. Looked forward to coming here. Stayed as a guest with wedding party. The wedding facilities were very good. The room very comfortable. Staff courteous. However bar prices extortionate. We expected a mark up but your prices were extraordinary. £5.80 for an ordinary lager and a bottle orange juice. Better quality beer and freshly squeezed orange juice for two thirds of that price in central London. Please think again. Once again did question prices with other guests but advised it was correct. Have already commented on breakfast. But criticism could so easily be remedied. You have a wonderful venue please provide value for money from the kitchen and bar. (1895861)

positive comments comfortable large room in countryside. Beautiful view from windows across countryside
negative comments BREAKFAST!!!!! would suggest breakfast cooked to order rather than sitting in a steamer until inedible. Coffee stale, no marmalade, indigestible sausages, tough bacon, solid grey scrambled eggs which we did not dare brave to try, soggy hash browns and a solitary mushroom swimming in a pool a water. And no we were not late nor the last to breakfast. Did complain at reception and was not charged for breakfast. Please cook to order so it is hot, fresh and appetising.

I have stayed at the Chilston Hotel on two previous ocassions, I therefore knew what to expect. The hotel is set in large rural gounds in a very lovely part of Kent. The hotel itself is a comfortable lived in old house with a gentle welcoming and friendly atmosphere and staff that want to please. The guest rooms are well appointed. The choice and quality of food in the restaurant is good and we much enjoyed our evening meal. I would recommend the hotel for a leisurely weekend experience. (2358012)
